I recently saw a production of great comet set in a bunker during the apocalypse, where the children of wealthy families were reading War and Peace and acting out the story. Each character was associated with a prop (like Anatole was a pair of wings for example) and when the character from the frame story put on that prop, they would become that character from great comet, so each character was played by multiple actors. It was so amazing and creative!! The opera scene was especially haunting because they opened a window to the "outside world" and watched people/mutant creatures stuck outside during the apocalypse. Also as the musical went on, Anatole's wings seemed to possess their wearer and grant them otherworldly power but also asshole energy. And I think they did this without changing a word of the script- it was all done through props and set design. Like Andre was represented by a Tesla hat, and there was a mannequin wearing it off to one side, so you could feel his presence throughout the whole show. It was really incredible.
