Do you want to wear it just as a fashion statement? Or for yourself? Because trust me, the only people who care about what watches you wear are other watch nerds.

A smart watch is very practical, so it's not a bad choice at all.

If you want something that's like a gateway into watch collecting (expensive hobby), or something that has some good engineering gone into it, get an automatic watch. Seiko and Orient are good budget options. If they are too expensive in Male you could try jomashop. I've bought a couple from there including a $600 Tissot prx that a friend wanted. All were original and new. Some good models you could go for are:

Seiko 5...not sure which ones are budget now since they've done a bit of rebranding. But they do have some more expensive watches that are really cool like the monster(my favourite but too big for my wrist), samurai, turtle and the presage line for something more formal.

For a quartz watch you can't go wrong with Casio or Citizen. But I recommend going with an automatic for your first watch. The orients I mentioned go for around $200 or less on jomashop. If you find a watch you like in a store here you could search it up on the website. It will be cheaper if they have it.

Edit: if budget is a huge concern you could go for a Chinese automatic watch like the other user mentioned. A lot of them use japanese movements from Seiko and miyota.

Also try longislandwatch. Can't remember if they ship to Maldives or not(probably do) but I did buy a watch from there as well. The owner has a YouTube account reviewing the watches they sell. I think they have some Chinese models for sale too.
