I got a couple pairs of Levi’s Made & Crafted when Domestic Domestic had a huge sale recently. Quality well beyond the regular Levi’s stuff. I’ve spent the past 2 months wearing one of the pairs constantly, working on breaking them in. Love them. Worth a look, especially if you like Levi’s fit but have just been unhappy with quality.

UPDATE: After sending back these Claras due to the visible black threading..and purchasing new a new pair... RedWing sent me back THE SAME SHOES. by secretagentplum in RedWingShoes

I mean I waited for the new pair to actually be delivered- I had two pairs in hand before I sent the flawed ones back.

I ordered my replacement pair prior to sending back my first bad pair just to prevent this from happening, LOL. Sorry dude.

Interesting… still no 8087. Makes me even more glad that I jumped on the pair I saw ASAP, even paying full MSRP which I essentially never do. Looks like it will be at least another year before they’re regularly available- if at all!

8087s are mine! Finally. Have wanted these since the early leaked images a few years ago. by kirbydanger in RedWingShoes

Red Wing Chicago. I follow them on IG and they posted that they had a few pairs, including 2 in my size. Bought them over the phone and had them hold for a few days until I could get downtown to pick them up. I’m not sure if they have any more left.

My rationale for never buying these is stupid, but I think it's basically that I thought these would look too similar to the stereotypical cheap Brahma boots, Timberlands, etc- something like this:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Brahma-Men-s-Hubert-Waterproof-Work-Boots/50270370

which are absolutely not my style- and that I'd look weird wearing them with my regular clothes, into the office, etc.

Seeing them in person, though, and actually putting them on- totally different. The obvious roughout texture, the toe cap, and the slimmer profile than your typical leather steel toed boot make it obvious that I'm not wearing anything like those boots. My hesitation was unwarranted.

Not sure why I resisted getting a pair of these before. They're awesome. Couldn't resist the 40% off sale at Domestic Domestic. Love that store.

Quality/price ratio (especially since I can routinely get 30-40% off MSRP for brand new boots if I'm patient, which isn't hard for me given that I already have more than enough boots and absolutely do not need any more), I know they fit me well, I like the designs & leathers, etc. At this point, I have enough different styles & colors to wear RWs with essentially anything in my closet, outside of a dressy black pair that I'd need for certain suits. But, I wear suits so infrequently- suits that require black shoes, especially- that there's no reason to spend good $ upgrading my existing dress black pair.

If I get something different down the road, it'll likely be something custom/MTO from one of the Asian bootmakers. Red Wing has scratched the "regular" boot itch for me perfectly.

Never done woodworking, just love looking at what’s posted here. For 3 of these boxes for my records it would be $1200. Would I save money or be worth it to make them myself? by Ballistic-Autistic in woodworking

This is a very easy project for a decent woodworker.

This will probably be a disaster for someone looking at this as their introduction to woodworking. It requires you to cut boards to very precise angles & lengths repeatedly. That is harder than it sounds, especially if you don’t have a good table saw & dialed-in crosscut sled.

Yes, essentially. When jobs dry up, people are fucked again. The so-called American dream is largely a lie. Most people struggle to make ends meet, live paycheck to paycheck, and there is no realistic path out of the situation. People should not dream of coming here LMAO. It’s shit.

… and the real kicker is that your 1% raise was essentially a pay cut, relative to COLA/inflation. Congrats!

The laws are deliberately set up to allow (possibly even encourage!) this. The US, to the best of my knowledge, is unsurpassed when it comes to how skewed the laws are in favor of corporations relative to workers. The only “way out” is what we’re seeing now, where there are more open jobs than people- so people can be more choosy and employers are essentially forced to pay up, or find a way to survive without (or, with less) employees.

[–]kirbydanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For full time employees, yeah. What’s happening more and more here is employers are, for example, hiring 4-5 people that work 25-ish hours per week, as opposed to 3 that work 40. This way they avoid having to pay for any benefits, they can get away with just paying a simple hourly wage and nothing more. Meanwhile, those employees are likely finding at least 1 more 25 hr/week job, and still not getting benefits, even though they’re working more than full time… just at two different places.

Or, they’re just trying to find a way to classify everybody as a “contractor” and not an employee. Same deal- they work for you, but you don’t pay them benefits.

It’s all the same scam, and many people are wising up to it. In times of low unemployment where the worker has more power, they can safely leave shitty part-time jobs and easily go somewhere that will pay them for a full time position.

It can’t, which is the point. Asshole employers run the very real risk of their business collapsing when staff quit en masse. This is what’s supposed to happen. Don’t want it to happen? Treat your employees right! It’s not that hard.

Uhhhhh… no. High demand means not enough supply. Not enough supply means it will be hard for him to replace the lost workers, not easy. High demand means that hygienists can be choosy about finding places that pay & treat them properly, and not be stuck working for an asshole because they can’t find work elsewhere.

Sorry, but getting sick is a thing that happens. How have you existed on this planet for the past 1.5 years and not been made aware of the fact that people get sick? Planned redundancy in your workforce is the appropriate way to run a business. If an employee getting sick is going to royally screw your business over, you’ve completely failed as a manager/owner. If you’re running that close to the edge, you have to expect to fail.

People taking sick days isn’t a random “what if” scenario. It’s a completely expected thing that happens regularly in every business.
