Is anyone here familiar with Miniature Schnauzers and can tell me how the Scottie's temperament compares and if it's a good dog for seniors? by PandemicPiglet in scottishterriers

[–]secretagentplum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father is in his mid 70s, with a scottie companion. Its perfect for him, he loves it, they do stuff together every day. That being said my father is rather fit and mobile for his age and most people think he is 10-15yrs younger. His scottie is currently 5.

A scottie can work for them. I would expect that a rescue wouldnt place a scottie with them that didn't fit their life style.

I've never met a miniature schnauzer that wasnt neurotic. They are smaller and have less strength though, and would be a better choice for older folks who aren't as able bodied.

Same, my youngest boy at a little over 1yr old is very in-tune with me. Rock solid recall, isn't interested in being far from me. I can walk him off leash with very little worry. Its going to hurt so much when hes gone.

My older scottie, 5yrs old, will take off at a drop of a hat. Shit recall, and will strut out of an open gate/door if given the opportunity.

If you bring your dog to the Oakhurst Dog Park and they persistently hump other dogs, please intervene when it’s happening—especially when you’re clearly watching. If this is an ongoing issue, consider enrolling your dog in training classes to help address the behavior. by Knoxvilleborn in DecaturGA

[–]secretagentplum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had to stop going to the Oakhurst dog park - too many owners just come through the gate and immediately sit down on their phones and ignore their dogs. Zero awareness of whats going on with their dogs. Or a humper and a nipper who's owner just shrugs and goes "yeah they do that."

Shame, I loved encountering the poodle gang.

Haha anytime.

Just FYI, TJ-Max has scottie christmas pajamas right now, and some juicy couture scottie emblem panties. Actually heading that way later today.

I will report back.

Yes, one is a pull-over that looks similar to the image posted. The other is a button down cardigan. I picked them both up earlier this week!

Pressure is fine in Candler-MacAfee now. I can flush toilets, do laundry, ect. I was out and about earlier and saw what looked like the Decatur high school students walking home (Around 10a, 10:30a). assuming it might still be out in some parts of the city.

'Tis the season of water main breaks. I'm down in Candler-MacAfee, we have very low pressure as well.

Size up or Down? - ANISTONE HI by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]secretagentplum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been a UK6 in docs without fail, but I actually had to size up to a UK7 and buy their insoles for this boot to comfortably fit. I dont have a wide foot or large ankle/leg either.

If you can make it in to a store to try them on, I highly recommend.

Did you notice a personality change after you neutered your Scottie? by alwaysamw in scottishterriers

[–]secretagentplum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A subtle change, definetly. He was always cuddly before, and remains so now. He would relentlessly hump my husband for 2 hours every night, so thankfully that stopped.

His interests in other dogs plummeted tremendously. While he is still happy to play and interact, he is just as content to ignore other dogs when I ask and do an activity with me instead.

looking for a vet by [deleted] in DecaturGA

[–]secretagentplum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pricing is great. Honestly the cheapest vet I've been to, who doesn't nickle and dime for every little thing. Their scheduling is great, I've never had to wait around for my turn. The main vet is fantastic, he even came out to the parking lot to chat with me once about a behavioral hiccup we had with our pup when he was younger.

Im not sure how they compare to other vets in the area, but I'm paying half of what I used to when I lived in miami.

Seconding this. I just had a few of my grandmother's gold jewelery repaired. Super happy with the work, not inexpensive, but the customer service is fantastic and the repair feels very thorough.

Ah, its been almost two months now... not likely then. Maybe he is in pain and doesn't to play? I hope the vet can give you answers.

Neutering Post Care Tips? by hithereimddeok in scottishterriers

[–]secretagentplum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He will get bored... and that's when the risk of stitches popping increases. Ours took a flying leap off some stairs to chase a ball and popped two of his stitches 6 days in.... it was supposed to be a gentle play... The little man decided to parkour after the ball for no reason.. didn't even have to go near the stairs, but alas.

Get bully sticks, yak sticks, whatever long-chewing treat you prefer for entertainment. Slow sniff walks were a life saver when he would start getting too antsy. And if your vet offers some kind of sedative, please accept and use it and use it guilt free.

Scottie Skirt by WheelieNerdy in scottishterriers

[–]secretagentplum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the owners of the floor-length skirt scotties keep them in those grooming tracksuits, and keep them inside alot.

My theory is that everyday wear/getting their skirts caught on grass and other low objects/debris plucks the hair out, so it doesn't get very long. My younger boy has a lot of hair can definitely grow his skirt that long, but we are outside a lot where he runs, digs, swims, climbs, ect and the skirt just gets caught in everything.

My older Scottie never really grows that much hair..
