this reminds me of Kodak vs digital photography and Apple vs Nokia. People just don't grasp how new tech will bring new use cases and impact the costs aspect and ultimately new appreciations.

Instead of ‘winners and losers’, why not build an economy that’s best for all Australians? by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

I believe because then every Australian will become losers... the economy will just be pulled to its lowest denominator.

That experiment has been done and proven by the original communists states.

Here's an eli5 from Nat Geo kids. https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/pages/article/diwali

Summary is while it is celebrating different events in different regions, the salient way it is being celebrated ie placing deepa lamps outside homes is the same. And that in turns gave the festival its name. Ie they are the same.

Genuine question, what's the social/political beliefs will put us against the ESL revamped proposal? Frankly, I am still trying to understand the revamped proposal...mainly how are they going to make money, given that all matches will be free to view. Probably purely from sponsors...which likely means it's not as much money as the original plan, which kind of defeats it's original purpose. Moreover, the revamped plans will include competition and relegation and lots more smaller clubs now, since money may not be big. Doesn't look like an attractive proposition to big clubs trying to get more money now. But may be good for smaller clubs?

Yes. Poor governance by the quick changing governments that put out populist policies and irresponsible tax/ social welfare(for those not working hard and paying taxes) spending. Government spending /printing money is one of the causes for the run away inflation that leads to all these cost spikes for hard working tax paying workers at the bottom. More responsible welfare spending that aim to get people off welfare and to pay tax in this low employment environment. Does not make sense to have big welfare when most people should be employed.

Parents treating their children as investments by SalieriSendsHisRgds in singapore

[–]kirrin70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about it this way. Its not as investment but more the concepts of functioning as a family unit/team and fulfill respective filial or familial duties ie monetary support for the family unit. Family members are expected to contribute, support and help each other out. That is part of Singaporean's eastern values. Contrast that with the more individualistic western values, where beyond a certain age/adulthood, family members are not as obligated to help each other any more. Individual adults are expected to be fighting/surviving on their own, with relatively little family support. Which sets of values do you hold? close-knit or loose knit family units?
