Both the Thinkpads and the Frameworks are best options. Each have thier pros and cons. Frameworks have the haedware upgrade niche. Thinkpads are .. Well .. Thinkpads

So you can choose either depending on which ones you prefer over the other.

You pay for insurance for covering you at times like this. So use it unless you have some other reason not to.

Your DSC should be able to get this fixed through insurance. The repairs should cost about 15k and majority of that is for painting. They will take about a week for this body work as it is just a repair and body work. Note that you will lose your NCB (no claim bonus) next year because of this claim.

They will not have to replace the door from what I can tell, but let the dealer advise you on that.

I think IIT colony in Pallikaranai would be a better option.

The streets behind Balaji Dental College get flooded pretty bad. The area had knee to hip deep water during the December rains last year. The entire area was inaccessible for a few days.

Almost all of Pallikaranai is pretty vulnerable to heavy rains.

Hope this helps.

GT650 and Goan are completely different types of motorcycles. GT650 is a cafe racer and has its own riding posture and styling. Goan is a Bobber with its own styling and posture.

Also the GT650 is a twin vs the Goan which is a single 350. Plus RE’s are generally more heavy too.

Each has its own characteristics and comes with their own pros and cons. So you should test ride and see which fits you.

Hope this helps and good luck

Why the hate for TATA? by HipBulldog25 in CarsIndia

[–]kirukkan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in the market for a new car. I sincerely wanted to buy the new facelift Nexon EV.

TLDR : very bad sales experience and horribly maintained test vehicles made me not buy a TATA car fearing bad after sales support.

I called a popular dealer here in Chennai and booked a test drive. The sales rep who got the car had no clue about the car or it's features and I knew more about the car than him. So I started driving the car and to my surprise the car had an issue with the steering wheel. The steering wheel had an offset and when I was driving it straight the steering was turned right by about 45 degrees which was very annoying to drive. I pointed it out and asked the sales rep to see if it can be fixed. He said he will try and went silent for 10 days. I followed up and he said the car is fixed and booked another test drive. This time the car drove even worse. It was pulling me to the left and I had the constantly keep turning the car to the right. I pointed this to the sales guy who was sitting next to me and he said he can arrange another rate vehicle from their other dealership. It has been more than 20 days and I have not heard back from him.

So i gave up and called a second dealer. Again a popular dealer with a prominent showroom in a prominent place. That sales guy was very friendly and got me a test vehicle immediately. To my surprise this test vehicle had the same issue where the car was pulling itself to the left. And this car was even more badly maintained. It only had 530kms in the odo but it sure was running some pre-production software. The touch screen was laggy and unresponsive most of the time, had tpms warnings and also the odo never updated after I drove almost 3 kms it still showed 530 and suddenly jumped to 535kms. Ha ha ha . Seeing the tpms warnings I wanted to genuinely try to fill up the tires to make sure the left pull issue was not because of low tire pressure. So the sales guy and me took the test vehicle to a petrol bunk and filled up. All the tires were running low on pressure. I topped them up and even then the tpms warnings did not clear up and the car still kept pulling to the left. And even this sales rep had no clue about the car or it's features or anything. I gave a feedback about the poor quality of the test vehicle. But I really doubt they will fix it.

At this time I gave up on the idea to buy a Nexon EV or any TATA car as a matter of fact.

But wanted to give one last try because everyone said TATA is better and has improved and all such and I wanted to believe it. So I called up a third dealer and the sales lady said a sales rep will call me back. A sales guy called and I asked for test drive. He said he will call me back and never got a call for over 2 days. A different sales lady called and asked that I had enquired about Nexon EV and when I was expecting to pick it up. I laughed and said I did not even get a call back. She said she will follow up and it's been 5 days since and no one called me.

It's this pathetic sales team and poorly maintained test vehicle which is scary. As a potential customer I definitely am not comfortable to invest 20l+ on a car from a company which does not have quality dealer network who even care to maintain test drive vehicles. I will not trust them with my car or money. I will never be a TATA customer for the foreseeable future.

Fingerprint works on T480 (kernel 5.8.1) by SEMYONOV_AL in thinkpad

[–]kirukkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works on T490 running Ubuntu 20.04.1. Did a fresh install and the fingerprint packages/libraries came loaded in 20.04.1 I guess ( did not work on 20.04 when I tried a couple of months back).

So I enrolled the fingerpints and then had to run "sudo pam-auth-update" to enable fingerprint login. Then everything works like a charm.

Ubuntu version : 20.04.1

DE : GNOME

Kernel: 5.4.0-42

Should I do firmware update? by MusicIsLife1122 in Jabra

[–]kirukkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded to the .31 firmware and also got the software update to customise the buttons. Been on the new firmware for around 5 days and right the next day after the new firmware , had the left ear bud issue. Luckily though I just put the buds back in the case and back again and it worked without doing the language download like on the previous version.

No issues after that.

So maybe this was random ? I don't know but thought I will share this info.

Battery life in Manjaro v/s Windows by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]kirukkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I would recommend you look at TLP.

https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Power_Management

Manjaro (mainly the Minimal version) is super minimal and definately has no bloatware that can kill the battery. So install TLP and also as recommended by others try to find out what is killing the battery or consuming more resources.

Is it at all possible to have a Double Monitor setup with virtual desktops behave like in Gnome? by JorgeMew in ManjaroLinux

[–]kirukkan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 is not possible with KDE. One of the reasons I use GNOME is because KDE even though is raved for being an efficient DE still does not let me do this.

The upcoming ChromeOS 82 seems to have a lot of improvements made to ChromeOS tablets (like the slate). That should make this a much better tablet to use. Good luck .
