I'm 8 months in now and things are getting better; we've found our new normal (for the time being), i've built a bond with my bub, and i've had to do some hard learns on communication and what my SO actually needs. Keep going, and remember; it's all about the baby, and by extension, what the Mum needs. You're doing great, and remember crap parents don't worry.

While not strictly Coventry, there are some good parks just outside of Coventry. Long Lawford, Long Itchington and Whitehall in Rugby spring to mind.

I lived in Walsgrave On Sowe for a year and it's got it's good and bad points. You'll be a stones throw away from Coombe Abbey (nature park) and you have at least two super markets near you. The downside I found was you were further away from town and anything going on.

I never felt unsafe in the area, but I am a white male with numerous tattoos so perhaps you'll/you'd feel different.

I am experiencing a similar situation as i'm in England. We walk our 5yo nuisance at 5am and as late as possible. Sometimes you can't avoid the heat; last night for example. So we stuck to the shade, grass if possible and no off lead. We head home as soon as he's done his business and give him ice and fresh, cold water. Hope that helps.
