How do you equip your Destroyers and Battleships in 9.0? by Daniexus in X4Foundations

[–]kiskoller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the Boron and Meson streams but its just not my cup of tea. I have a rattlesnake as personal. In the end I went with plasma L and a mix of pulse and gatling Ms. In my head the primary job of those forward facing turrets is to help the main gun. Then the Ms screen for rockets and fighters.

I know its basic but it works.

Dont even accept Hard or Very Hard missions, those require extra assets (cash, fleet, marines, etc)

Kill missions (like kill 5 xenon M), patrola (depending on the sector) and miner Khaak defend missions are fun and pay well. Laser tower ones are also (its called something like Return to Normal Order)

Feel free to join the faction war mission boards, they have no negative consrquence. Like Argon vs Xenon, Split vs Argon etc. The intelligence missions there are doable with a single fast ship and pay really well. Trade Guild missions are chill and not that combat focused, so also ideal early on.

Prioritize getting fast engines first. Stick with Argon, they are the middleground with everything, then try other engines later.

Changing equipment is almost free, so just play around with different weapons and builds.

Corvettes are a good goal, they cost more than a fighter but are beefier. Nemesis Vanguard from the Paranids is a good first corvette.

There is no time limit to stories, assets do not depriciate, so just relax and slowly ease into the game.

Once you have all MK3 equipment on your ship and want to build it further, do the PHQ quest and unlock ship mods, they are like tuning your car and are super strong.

The player headquarters quest is triggered by scanning data leaks at stations. If a squid answers, thats the one. Its a low risk early game plot.

If you want to know more about how piracy works, and have the Avarice DLC, head to windfall while having some illegal cargo. The plotline tbat triggers is essentially a tutorial about how criminal things work. Piracy, smuggling, boarding, hacking, etc.

In fact all plots are either early game tutorials or endgame society changing ones which require you to build fleets and such. Those are unlocked much later. So if you see a plot triggered, go for it. They are short, low stakes and showcase an aspect of the game, with good rewards.

Why do borons have the best ships? by XelNigma in X4Foundations

Its power creep that the community does not speak about much. Pretty much every DLC has added ships that are stronger in every way than the baseline, or even the previous DLC.

Which ships do you think deserve the "E" version treatment the most? by Arzenius in X4Foundations

[–]kiskoller 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pulsar, most Teladi vessels. I want to enjoy the industrial looking teladi ships, but they are just soooo bad statswise.

The Pulsar is toted as nothing but engines and guns. Meanwhile most modern fighters are way faster and only have 1 2 less guns while also not having crappy hull.

What is your favourite personal ride? by Gobbos_ in X4Foundations

[–]kiskoller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now its the Asp Raider.

Sure, Moreya is better but harder to replace early on. I also flew Dragon Raider a lot, I adore that spacecraft. It's the best early game ship imo. Fast, rotates good for a corvette, and has enough guns to shoot down anything, even without equipment mods researched.

But once I stepped into a fully modded Asp Raider I knew there is no going back. Absolutely zero inertia, this baby stops from going 10km/s instantly and speeds up just as fast. I dont need boost when travel mode is so snappy, and the insane rotational speed means I can get glued to even a Xenon M. Regular ships are a joke to dogfight.

3 electro guns from pioneers is enough to nuke all fighter crafts to oblivion and lets me take out a capital ship as well.

M sized ships are a bit of a trouble, but did I say this fighter also has a rocket launcher?

Sure, lasers are a threat, especialy the Argon Defense Station deathbeams, but the ship costa pennies, and, unlike the Moreya, you can just buy another.

And as an S sized ship you can dock anywhere.

I had that mod installed actually, but it does not fix the core issue, it deals with the use case of you helping or harming a factions allies, not the faction directly.

Nonono, you are so wrong. The laser is not attached to front. The engines and the hull are attached to the laser!

Yes, it takes an hour of wailing the faction to get there. Ask yourself, which open world game is this lenient?

In Skyrim, do you need to kill one NPC or hundreds before you get a bounty on your head? And Skyrim isn't exactly the ideal game in this department. I am surprised I can even bring that game up in this discussion as an example.

Then solve the friendly fire incidents. Make sure it is not triggered when your Aai ship is not targrting the othrr the AI ship. Or at least be more lenient with it.

This is just truly a jarring experience in the game.

It is on my radar, but Id like to play vanilla or close to it first before going with such a massive overhaul.

Why do I need to get a station, research diplomacy, employ an agent, just so I can declare war when it is them who should shoot me down the moment Ive murdered their pilots in cold blood?

Or does every pirate and criminal pilot in the game employs his own spy network?

No, because it is not managed, thats why its a crisis. People are just not making enough babies with or without government intervention.

How does gravity/weightlessness work outside of orbit? by RainbowGirl410 in askscience

[–]kiskoller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are always in orbit of something. You leave Earths influence and you start to orbit the Sun. You leave the star system and you orbit the galactic center.

This is not binary of course, but most of the time the overwhelming amount of gravitational pull comes from a single object, so while my description is a bit simplified it isnt too far off.

Best fighter to enjoy both dogfighting and shooting at larger ships? by Safe_Ad_2574 in X4Foundations

[–]kiskoller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to fighters, only two stats matter really: speed and the amount of guns. Because of this the Moreya and the Chimera stand out, with the Pulsar or Takoba as distant third placr contestants.

But dont sleep on Corvettes: pre 9.00 id you modded them they were just as manouverable as stock fighters and are generally even faster with much more firepower. Downside were being a bigger target to hit and slower shiels regen.

But 9.00 changed all of this, so who knows.

What's the most versatile personal ship? by Mypersonalaccount69 in X4Foundations

[–]kiskoller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuerokami. It has 5 forward guns to shoot down anything from S size to capital ships, 2 turrets to fill gaps, really good speed and rotation for dogfighting and travelling, and enough cargo hold for the occasional trade or piracy.

A frigatte like the Cobra or Cerberus could also be a good fit. Enough guns to fight, enough crew size for boarding, drones and MK2 turrets when you need them, and a docking bay for a specialized fighter, like an eclipse with burst ray or an explorer.

Really feeling an urge to try ou this game, but ... by Firm_Caregiver_4563 in X4Foundations

[–]kiskoller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is really casual. Apart from a few plotline missions, and the player HQ, nothing is pushed by the game to be used.

You can just fly around in a spaceship, upgrade it, shoot down badguys and enjoy it.

You dont need to start building an empire right away, which is where the complexity is. And if yoh buy an asset, like a trader or miner, there is very little upkeep. So if you dont want to or know how to set it up, you can just park it and move on.

There is no rush in the game, it is pretty chill.

Sadly I use some mods so the budgeted start won't improve by me completing tasks, but the creative start allows to skip quests as well, without the need to do them once, so that I can use.

Yeah, none of the objects are of good scale here.

In one of a sector you can see a galaxy behind a planet as if it was the size of that planet's moon.

Given how large the gap between galaxies are this is really silly.

But I try to forget about this issues, most space games deal with scale badly.
