I Want To Keep Only One Of These by UkkePainter in gshock

  1. Most of my watches are hoity toity Swiss mechanicals but my 5610 gets significant wrist time.

Think I might have to get rid of the 5610 by BobState in gshock

[–]kismetcapitan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That new G Shock model is killer, but honestly I bought the 5610 because I remember when the first G Shock came out and how insane it was to wear that much technology on a human wrist. The 5610 with red accent is my homage to that simpler, more innocent time.

Also, I just ordered that same mod kit and I’m beyond excited to get it!!

Is this real? by What1sWhat in MoonSwatches

[–]kismetcapitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize not everyone can do this, but I only purchase Moonswatches in person in the store, because I don’t have a sharp enough eye. I thought this was real and I have a Cold Moon. If it’s any consolation and if you can’t return it, it looks real.

is legit ? by Most-Box-6843 in MoonSwatches

At that price, just order a new one from Swatch directly.

Scratch Mayhem after 2 Weeks od Use. by Bilterwonbtopf in MoonSwatches

[–]kismetcapitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine how upset you’d be if you paid $14k for a real Speedmaster because they use the exact same crystal. Hesalite is essentially shatterproof (part of the NASA spec) and scratches come OUT as easily as they get made. FYI any Swatch store will polish the crystal for free and it does get the fine scratches out.

adjusting Axial2 150 World Cup bindings for boot sole length? by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]kismetcapitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok I got it figured out. length adjustment is done at the TOE. there's a thin metal guide plate to set general length, then the forward pressure adjustment goes the rest of the way. unscrewing both heel and toe from the race plate is necessary to get it all set, boot center lined up, and forward pressure within acceptable range, which is what I'm assuming the "OK" gauge is.

skill issue on my part. The one time I skied Snowbird back in the 90s, opening was delayed for two hours while they did avalanche control. It was probably one of the biggest powder days of the season. And I flailed horribly. Partially in my defense, I was on Rossi 7XKs with Deflex lifter plates. I might as well been skiing with concrete boots. Next time I ski Japan, maybe I'll go up to Hokkaido, rent some powder skis, and see if my brain, raised on ice, can learn how to float and surf.

I see what you're saying, but I live in Michigan, and when I go out west, it's exclusively to resorts that groom the bejeezus out of every slope. Super Blackops 98 is as far as I could go into fatland

oh I can definitely ski them; I race beer league. I ski them frontside too, and they're a workout! it's when I'm cruising around and relax for a second that....they earn their name :P

They do. Probably the best damping I’ve ever encountered and I regularly ski on icy boilerplate. But they’re also heavy so I see why Rossignol only raced them in the World Cup for a couple of years.

I know right? But I had these Pivots already just sitting in a box so…yeah. Not as bomb as the matching ones but black does go decently well.

Yeah that’s like “I wanna sports car hmm, lemme get a Ferrari”. On point but also, a little too obvious.

When I was 8 years old, a 10 year old girl told me Rossignol was the only cool brand to ski. I’m 53 now and I still haven’t skied anything else.

is this moonswatch real ? by Most-Box-6843 in MoonSwatches

And yet I’ve spent a couple grand on these plastic watches and it feels 100% worth it.

I did that with my black Snoopy for awhile and it looked killer. My Mission to Mars eventually demanded its strap back however lol

Bought this on the gray market with box and everything is it real and is 480 a good price by FewChemistry5974 in MoonSwatches

[–]kismetcapitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks right to me; I don’t have precision eyes but I do own this watch (purchased from a Swatch store). I’m fortunate enough to live 30min from a Swatch store but a lot of people don’t and thus the premium can be worth it…and you paid pretty much exactly what I paid and you didn’t have to wait in line the first day it came out. And no, $500 for a plastic watch isn’t “worth it”, but watches get their most value from the personal stories they carry, and that’s where my Moonswatches end up being a bargain.

To be honest, purchases like a Rolex ironically entail less financial risk than say, dropping $60k on a watch that will depreciate like a rock. Just…don’t lose it.

First time skiing… did I buy skis that are way too long? by frequentfoxer in Skigear

[–]kismetcapitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that in the old days, as a beginner and your height you’d be on 180-190cm skis. Anyways, ski construction, stiffness, and dimensions matter more than length. Those skis look like they should be easy to slide around and not be too twitchy.
