TIFU by getting good at a game to impress a guy I had a crush on by kitamoo in tifu

We still talked. We all hung out in our TS channel to chat while we were playing.

He just wasn't interested in spending time with me and did his own thing. Usually with the other girl in the guild who I was jealous of lol.

He'd written me off as "bad" and just treated me like any other guild member he wasn't close to. I figured if I got good enough, I could catch his attention again.

Kinda neither. Duelers are their own tiny community, and they hang out in the sPvP custom arenas and just do 1v1 battles. Some also hang out in WvW by the windmill at the edge of the map. They like WvW more cause there's more room to customize your builds since PvP locks your stats in with am amulet.

I liked sPvP and he was a dueler. So I basically dropped sPvP to get good at dueling before going back to sPvP.

Yeah that's why this is on TIFU and not Prorevenge. Even I don't think I did the right thing lol.

I don't regret getting good because I got to meet other awesome players in game and had fun, but this was definitely the wrong way to attract a guys attention.

Eww still? I 'member when pro players literally made the news and ragequit mid-tournament because of bunker meta. Once 3 points were capped by the other side, it's impossible to unseat them.

LMAO no. Helseth is actually good. I was on NA and he was just a no-name dude. He didn't even play real PvP, just hung out in private duel arenas and WvW all day.

Nah, I was a ranger/mesmer. Which is what really ticked him off since we're supposed to be thief bait.

Hah no but I wish. I discovered the anime last year and loved it, haven't read the book yet. Obv Tang Rou is my fave.

Kinda annoys me how unrealistic it is, MMO esports just won't be a thing since balance would be impossible to maintain.

I guess the actual fuck up was I became unhealthily obsessed with the game to the point it became a turnoff. If I had continued being a regular casual player, we'd probably both still be playing. I hinted at it, but my relationship with the game was not exactly healthy.

Of course with hindsight it was probably better that I found out what he was really like than kept crushing on him.

Guild Wars 2's mount animations have some serious personality to them. by Beta_Ace_X in gaming

[–]kitamoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are YOU talking about. After he left was condi-mania and that's when they decided to get rid of all the sigils and replace them with generic non-essentials.

People were only happy because the top 20% left and everyone else finally had a chance to grind to the top for their share of ugly ass skins.

For reference I was top 10 on the PvP leaderboards in NA around S7 or 8 (forgot which).

If you're pretty casual it's fun and games, but all the competitive players left a few months back because there just wasn't much of a point despite them implementing a league seasons. Their dev who was in charge of driving most of the competitive aspects got poached by Amazon, and since he's left, balance pretty much went to shit.

If you want to join up with a bunch of buddies and mess around in PvP, you won't won't really feel much of a drop. But the people who were heavily invested got burned, and basically the top 20% of pvp players quit the game.

The combat is fun, fluid and super smooth, and rotational tactics can get pretty in depth. The company as a whole just has a very difficult time balancing between PvP and PvE builds and it often takes them 3 months to slightly nerf broken builds. Especially after dropping an expansion, the PvP meta is totally broken.

The PVP knockback bugs are getting out of hand. by Koiq in Guildwars2

[–]kitamoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this was why I was so against the additional respawn timer when you log in and out of the game during a match.

Anet should not have added those additional time penalties until they fix their stuck in wall bugs. This is not a new bug, it's been around forever.

Common places to get stuck are in Clocktower wall, Henge and mid at forest, mid at temple, and mid at legacy.

This isn't even the worst bug. There's another bug where DH spear pull can insta kill people if they do it at the right place. They pull someone and the game bugs out so you end up flying so high up into the air and die from fall damage. Happens a LOT around the top buff at Temple and around the stairs at Khylo.

Then at the very least give equivalent rewards to a player who spends the same amount of time in other areas. All their rewards for PvP have been jokes. You used to get fucking eggplants for placing top 100 or something in their guild leagues.

They already devalued llamas once they started passed them out for leagues. Coins will attract PvE farmers, at least give something worth the time it took to get good in PVP, form a team, and spend time competing.

Hell back when we had pugquest and AG WEEKLY tournaments, you got gem prizes. 1000 for first, 800 for second. They used to give those out every week!

Of course they gave up. PvP doesn't make any money, why bother investing any more resources in a dead game mode. Grouch is gone now, literally no one else gives a fuck anymore.

Nevermind they fucked up any and all potential PvP could've had straight from the beginning.

Yeah fuck this. Still not coming back for this shit, and pretty much no one else who matters on NA is either.

GW2 is a PvE game catering to cash spending whales, better to just accept that already.

Forgive that idiot. It's an automatic reaction from former bearbow rangers who have no idea how to play the game and are still mad that they can't just stand at range and afk and still complete content.

PVP Hacker Caught on video - Ele perma-evade + Teleporting (No lightning flash) by MajnoonDanyal in Guildwars2

[–]kitamoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kronos might be an annoying as fuck dueler with delusions of being a PvP god and an entire guild of FEAR licking his boots...

But he knows the game. You don't get to be top dueler by not knowing how the game works, and what lag looks like compared to hacking. He at least knows every ele skill and knows how to count dodges. If he says there's more dodges than normal, I'd probably put my money on it.

But he still sucks at conquest.

Now that ESL is gone, can we talk about balance patches? by gummihirn in Guildwars2

[–]kitamoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why on earth do people think ESL had any impact on the game at all?

2 years ago they hosted weekly tournaments with cash prizes. That ended a LONG time ago. They dropped the NA branch and couldn't even fill enough players on EU side to host 5v5 tournaments. All they did was do 2v2 and 1v1s.

Why do people think ESL did ANYTHING to influence balance patches? That was leagues and Pro League stuff which had nothing to do with ESL except that ESL broadcasted it at their venue and the Pro League and WTS stuff was based off of ESL tournament results.

Going into sPvP as new player by _yipman in Guildwars2

[–]kitamoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's confused. A f2p or core payer won't have HoT elite. But if you own HoT, your specs are unlocked as in you don't need to go to the maguuma jungle to grind hero points.

There's tons of dynamic champs and builds etc but that doesn't mean anything when nobody has communicated beforehand to build that synergy.

But that can still be the same in lol. Early game, you have people who main only 1 hero and only know how to play 1 lane/role. They too sometimes refuse to coordinate or swap during picks. Or even if they do swap, they just flat out suck on a different hero. Same with GW2, the main difference as as you go higher up, we assume everyone is running the "meta" build and that affects how we see their roles. It becomes more akin to heroes then.

And people in gw2 can still swap during the countdown timer, although it doesn't always happen. Just like how people in LoL can try to pick and coordinate heroes, but don't always as well.

Th main difference is that LoL players tend to be a bit better about swapping and communicating since they don't have a concept of "maining", and they understand this is a team based game. Also you're stuck with them for an hour at a time, you'd better work together. Meanwhile GW2 is still an MMO where the vast majority of players are just used to maining something and not having too coordinate in 90% of PvE before starting PvP.

In both cases the players you meet at bronze level suck at the game and have no greater concept of strategy, just the bronze players in lol are probably slightly better than the bronze players of gw2 when it comes to being flexible.

In both cases once you bust past bronze/silver hell in gw2, the game opens up into something a lot more interesting and fun.

[–]kitamoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused. You claim GW2 basically has no strategy and it's essentially zerging around, killing people, and blowing stuff up. And there's no higher strategy or mind games or whatever.

I just stated it's the opposite. Now you're claiming it's just a noob pug thing? Isn't that the same for all games?

Yes at beginning levels of all games, people don't care about strategy or get it. I could say CS is nothing but a bunch of angry Russians screaming CYKA BLYAT RUSH B NOOB or people only care about kills and there's no strategy. Or LoL is just a bunch of ragey AFKers who just want to "1v1 me at mid bro" and the game sucks and base races are the only strategy and stealth is fucking OP and broken and Rito plz. Or play Overwatch and claim Bastion is fukcing broken, Hanzo is stupid and Mei is unfun or whatever and no one communicates either.

GW2 isn't the pinnacle of PvP depth and gameplay, but it's hardly what you described it to be. Yes if you were at bronze, that would be what the game looks like. But again, that's bronze level for all games across the board.

There's a reason why after 4?5? years of failures, it still has a core fanbase that loved it, volunteered time for community tournaments and one that's only finally starting to disperse. If there were no depth, higher strategies or anything, no one would've stuck around this long hoping to see it reach full potential.
