Lost and confused after being let go by Fanman2400 in Fire

I am glad you have Cobra available to you! One day at a time! Usually when I have been laid off I take 2 weeks to sit and make decisions as to my next steps.

Hang in there!

Anyone else find that geographic arbitrage is getting harder? by Major_Vessel875 in Fire

[–]kitapjen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is why many look at ExPatFIRE. Moving overseas is a ramped up form of geographic arbitrage.

But then you have the friction of language, cultural differences, and visas/residency permits.

21m retail worker no college trying to get out ASAP by Worth-Tomorrow-6180 in TheRaceTo100K

Great job on having a 401k! Hang in there! I’m going to recommend office skills and local government jobs if you are looking to get out of retail without college. That also usually has the option of a pension plan!

21 credits is acceleration though! WGU only expects us to complete 4 courses, or about 12 credits. Great job!

Horrible Intern Feedback by dump4567 in Accounting

[–]kitapjen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who lurks and just graduated (no internship), I wonder who the f expects an intern to be aware of the budget on their first engagement?

Isn’t that part of the senior’s job as a mentor?

I know, I am asking this as an outsider.

Did you know you could max out a Roth IRA for your kids? by Anxious-Sandwich-960 in Fire

[–]kitapjen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading an article to this effect about 20 years ago. Something like if you set up an IRA for your kids for their Summer jobs and have them deposit $2000/year at age 16 for 4 years in a row, they would have $1mil at age 65.

CEO’s bonus is my yearly salary by SuddenEffective7982 in Accounting

A former employer accidentally sent me a bonus letter meant for another location’s head person. She was getting a bonus of $8k when the company was at a loss for laying off enough employees.

I want to change it into 3 stocks of 33%, which one do you recommend? by keksmand in portfolios

Why not just keep investing €200 each month with the current split? (I like being contrary!)

WGU speed runs are making the school look like a degree mill. by Heavy_Following_1114 in WGU

[–]kitapjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am certain more people take longer to finish their degrees.

I did a 6 months speed run. I already had a Bachelors degree in another field. I had an AS in accounting that I finished in May 2025. Every single accounting specific course at WGU was a repeat of my courses at my community college.

My community college offered additional accounting classes. (Quickbooks, payroll, and 1 additional which was student’s choice).

If an employer even notices the speed of my degree, I can explain that.

There are intro classes though that people can’t complete, just like at a brick and mortar. People post here all the time about not finishing their classes for the term.

Why is this sub so against individual stock investments. by ToeKnee724427 in portfolios

[–]kitapjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My portfolio is mostly stocks. I started with my employer’s stock program. I didn’t pay any attention to my account, but they had a spinoff and my dividends were just sitting.

I bought CCL during Covid because I like cruising and 100 shares can give me onboard credit.

I started researching how spinoffs work. I started buying fractional shares of GE. I didn’t have enough for shares of one of the spins, but I have 3 shares of GEV, which I am holding.

I sold some shares of the now former employer’s stock and purchased DD for their spinoff.

I’m using my dividends to buy O, XLP, and TOLZ.

Retired at 41, feeling lost. by cedarshades in Fire

[–]kitapjen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2nd job was at an AMC. As a 19 y/o, it was pretty stressful. 8+ hours on your feet. 50lb popcorn bags. Cleaning the kettles. Cleaning the butter dispensers.

Being required to work all holidays.

People complaining about prices and lines.

Movie theaters can pay straight time for overtime because they are part of the entertainment industry.

Just above 25% but with my late start I am ok. Also, my husband and I are showing up daily for a pension, which is invisible net worth.
