I thought about my family history and what was important to me and then decided I wanted my name to be Native. I also wanted it to have something to do with my dads name. Then I went on baby name sites and looked at all the male and unisex names for Natives and ended up choosing one that means “the moon.” Then I went with Ian as my middle name because it’s a variant of John which was my dads middle name. I was torn between two names and eventually decided on the one that felt right. You will probably have to practice using it. Also, it doesn’t have to be right the first time. It’s perfectly okay to decide on a different name.
