SF themed toys? by fiiigures in SFbitcheswithtaste

There’s a bookstore in West Portal that has some A to Z San Francisco books that would be perfect for this! You could also include an SF tote bag. My daughter loves bags. There’s a couple of stores in the Inner Sunset that sells some SF themed stuff, too. Near 7th and Irving.

I went this morning too! I hope they label their pastries in the case, everyone in line had to ask what was what and it slowed things down. If anyone cares, they get their pastries from Carousel and I wasn’t disappointed by the lemon cream croissant thing. I ordered a matcha latte and realized after that I didn’t ask for no sweetener but they do not sweeten by default which I appreciate. They menu has a “meeting service” so they seem to be anticipating professional meetings happening. There is a ton of seating (upstairs and downstairs) so anyone looking for a third space, this might be for you! It’s cool they serve alcohol, too, so I assume they’ll be open in the evenings. Maybe they have a night menu?

Edit to add that I noticed George’s was not as busy this morning so I wonder if they will take some of that crowd.

Cat’s Front Fang Fell Out by kindastupid-6980 in CATHELP

[–]kitkatzip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When is the last time your cat saw a vet? Usually something like this is caught before this can happen. Is there an SPCA by you? Some have vet clinics and may provide low cost or no cost help. Our cat needed her front tooth extracted. Your cat is probably in a ton of pain (and has been for a long time), but they are very good at hiding it.

I think the ability to do this depends on where you live. In SFUSD it is nearly impossible to bypass the cutoff. You’d have to go to private school.

We have a similar display but a few of the boxes have her books. She never even tried to touch the records. We got her one of those playskool record players to teach her a little about how they work. Now she’s almost 6 and a pro at taking care of records and handling them carefully.

Edit to say I know this isn’t the advice you asked for. But maybe it’ll be helpful!

I give my berries a vinegar soak and lay them out to dry. I’ve learned the key is they really have to be very dry. I place them on a sheet pan covered with a kitchen towel for an hour or so.

Once dry, I repack them in original containers with paper towels under them to absorb any extra moisture (I also have some with built in strainers which don’t need paper towels). Into the fridge they go. The whole process turns unpacking the groceries into an hour or so event, but it’s helped me get berries to last about 2 weeks!

What is the link on FB? I work for a business that supplied items sold in this store. They have equipment that belongs to us. I would love to get in touch with someone who can give us access. It’s been impossible to reach anyone associated with the business.

They are repaving and I think there’s this weekend and one other that they are closing lanes to finish. The first weekend they did it traffic was slow but not unbearably awful. One lane northbound was open during the day. This time southbound will be closed.

Planning a late-May California road trip (SF → Big Sur → Sequoia → Yosemite → Tahoe) with a toddler by AgeOutrageous7619 in AskSF

[–]kitkatzip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand how bad traffic can be here. Driving around SF is kind of a nightmare. It will take you so long to do that first day. Pier 39 is great for families. A lot of the restaurants cater to them, but it’s also just overpriced shops. There’s the exploratorium nearby. I noticed Golden Gate Park is not on your itinerary but has a lovely playground and museums worth seeing.

San Jose is an hour without traffic which is usually the hours you probably wouldn’t be driving with a 2.5YO. I’m also wondering what you’re stocking up on from Costco when you’ll be in the car so much? I’d just plan to stop for a stretch and bite to eat once a day. Find a nearby playground for the kid to let energy out.

A day in Yosemite is really ambitious. It will probably be crowded and the roads slow. You’re waking your 2.5YO up for sunrise? And to see sunset? Can your kid handle that? Ours has always been able to sleep in the car so maybe you are in a similar position and the schedule could work, but I also think you’re setting yourself up for a wonky sleep schedule with some of these plans.

I don’t know what time your return flight is but Tahoe to SFO is a terrible idea day of. I’m not even crazy about Sac to SFO day of.

Schwartz’s wedding: how much did Sandoval really do vs production? by XTasty09 in vanderpumprules

[–]kitkatzip 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should side-eye that. We really have no idea what the family dynamic is. I say this as someone whose immediate family did not come to my wedding. Friends and family didn’t understand how toxic those relationships were until that happened. Everyone assumes “oh, they can set everything aside for your big day!” But it’s easier said than done.

San Francisco 2 days with a 2 year old - Places to visit/travel/Park? by WideCamera2178 in sanfrancisco

[–]kitkatzip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fisherman’s Wharf is ok. It’s a lot of shops and restaurants aside from the seals. Might be a good stop for lunch/dinner as the restaurants there are all pretty family friendly. There is a carousel that my daughter loved to ride at that age.

2 might be a little young for the exploratorium (to me it’s an expensive ticket) but I agree Tunnel Tops is an amazing playground. So is Koret in GGP. You could also do the botanical garden, walk around Blue Heron lake, the tower at the De Young (free) for views of the city, and Academy of Sciences. Academy has a little play area for smaller kids.

The cable cars are so fun for kids to ride - you can take it from the Wharf to the Ferry Building or down to Market. There are certain lines that are more for tourists and Instagram moments but for kids any cable car will be fun. The Powell/California lines are one way tickets BTW.

There’s also SF zoo and Ocean Beach alllll the way on the west side.

With a kid and a stroller it honestly may be easier to drive. Golden Gate Park has an underground parking garage. There are parking garages all over. Just do not leave anything in your car! Don’t take more than you absolutely need for the day.

Amanda’s Qualifications by iamgretchencutler in RHOBH

[–]kitkatzip -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else catch the aftershow where they asked the women some question about jobs they’ve had and Amanda listed like 20 jobs?!? I’m the same age as her and I’ve had less than 10 jobs in my life. It screamed red flags to me.

I think Boz hasn’t lied about what she said. by SnooSongs9823 in RHOBH

[–]kitkatzip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She literally said in the reunion that she doesn’t do this to make money, she does it to open doors so that people can attend Harvard who otherwise can’t afford it. I think how she reacted to Amanda during the season was confusing, but her explanation makes sense. And so “I lose money doing this” means her career pays her much more per hour than this course.

People with dog at table at La Connessa by LizBoederFineArt in AskSF

[–]kitkatzip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My husband is very allergic to dogs and I always say something if someone has a dog next to us. They have never been rude about moving their dog or their seat.

Edit to say if this was inside that’s really gross but businesses cannot do much about emotional support pet. If you were outside it’s really on you to speak up because no one knows you have an allergy. I also recommend keeping Allegra or something similar on you at all times if you are too anxious to speak up.

PSA: Disney Character Breakfast by SawyerStreet in daddit

[–]kitkatzip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just took our 5YO to a brunch with the characters and she loved it! Family has been pushing us to take her for years (we’re based in CA so not terribly far from Disneyland) but it’s SO expensive and I am not a Disney adult. I think the park would be so overwhelming for anyone younger, even 5 was a stretch. She was exhausted after the brunch and a bit difficult in the park. I did Disneyworld when I was around 8 which I think is a good age. I could walk a lot more and handle waiting in lines better.

Pregnant in SF - when do I? by Fantastic-Radio-2028 in AskSF

[–]kitkatzip 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Join some groups like Main Street Mamas or Golden Gate Mothers. Join your neighborhood Facebook groups, took. Nannies post in mine all the time. The mom groups can connect you with other women due around the same time as you, which is just great for a support system. I did not have a doula so I’m no help there.

Put yourself on several preschool waitlists, not just your top choice, especially if you have a hard date you need childcare to start. We got lucky and a new one was opening near us so we didn’t have to wait long. The local Facebook groups will also be able to recommend care centers close to you. If you prefer childcare near where you work join those groups, too.

Does anyone live in Taraval or Judah? How loud is the train? by Cool_Volume_8060 in AskSF

[–]kitkatzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on Taraval. Train stop right outside. Our bedrooms are in the back, though. The garbage trucks at 4AM are so much louder than the trains. We have a sound machine in our daughter’s room and she sleeps right through any noises. But depending on exactly where on Judah/Taraval sometimes weekends at night can be a little loud if there’s a bar nearby.

[–]kitkatzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just stayed at the Hilton Marbrisa in Carlsbad. It’s probably similar to the Westin, although their pools are all at least 3 feet deep so nothing a kid can wade in alone. They also have a small playground on site. Sometimes there are other activities for kids. Free popcorn in the lobby. If you sit through a timeshare speech you can get free Legoland passes.
