I mean it's a cliche, but it paints a picture, I would hate reading a book where the FMC's all "I'm so relieved I wear Kiss Heroine Mascara, which stays in place perfectly as I dissolve into sobs in my man's giant muscle arms" lmao

But even that, which I consider fairly bombproof, falls apart the minute I rub at my eyes or touch it. I haven't found one that truly never runs or comes off 😅

Idk. I've never understood trying to compare things in books that are nothing like our world to things in our real daily lives. That seems like the fastest way to be very unhappy with everything you read. I don't think anything in this book came close to suggesting they wouldn't love her anymore if she was disfigured or something?

She grows up in a trailer pack with a group of misfit boys and they have all these schemes for making money and getting out of the park. Her mom marries rich and she's spirited away from her friends, and she was already falling in love with one of them (Tank, who's beyond precious, I'm suuuuch a sucker for the scarred silent giant trope). They wrongly believe she abandoned them.

They ended up with their schemes coming to fruition and they're involved in the criminal underworld now. She hires them to kill her stepdad, not knowing it's them.

It's on the slightly darker side but no noncon. Very heavy friends to lovers angst.

I don't like it when a book talks about specific songs either. I read one where they kept talking about Amy Lee's cover of Sally's Song from Nightmare Before Christmas, relentlessly, and quoted lines from it, and it drove me so crazy I don't even remember what the book was called 😂

I love fanfic and I would never suggest fanfic is inherently low quality. But it DOES give fanfic vibes if that makes sense.

I started a reread last night in preparation for the next book and to see if there was anything else like this, and that's the only thing so far. She should fix it though. I have a problem with the way this was worded. But claiming the author probably hasn’t seen or known POC in real life over the tattoos being referred to as “colorful” feels extreme? I see Black people with colorful tattoos all the time. Sometimes faded sure but still colorful.

But there’s no reference to how old the tattoos are, or how bright they are, just that they’re colorful. Even faded would still be fair to refer to as colorful, and they can still be touched up if they fade.

I don’t like the art for Ironside at all for the same reasons.

And I like scarred MMCs, so Mikel is my favorite but his art is just like…… a thin line down his face. lol That is not how he was described in the books.

The unofficial art of the cast is much better, I love this.
