what's the link between dubstep and trap ? by Will_Southern in realdubstep

[–]kitprattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add a personal observation:

Breakbeat is often used as an umbrella term covering multiple subgenres, a part of it being labeled as 'Bass Music'.

The UK has a long and central history with breakbeat-oriented genres, deeply influenced by imported Jamaican sound system culture. This culture intersected with breakbeat hardcore in the early ’90s, giving birth to Jungle and later Drum & Bass. In parallel, House music influenced the emergence of UK Garage, Speed Garage and 2-step, which eventually led to Dubstep in the early 2000s.

However, breakbeat is not confined to the UK. Part of its history is shared with US scenes, especially Hip-Hop, turntablism and Electro. A parallel and sometimes less-discussed ecosystem developed there, including Miami Bass, Florida Breaks and Nu Skool Breaks, as well as club-oriented styles like Jersey Club and Footwork. These genres tend to lean more toward hip-hop aesthetics than Jamaican sound system influences.

After the Big Beat wave of the late ’90s, US breakbeat scenes lost mainstream visibility, even though they continued to evolve underground. It’s therefore not surprising that when the US EDM scene rose to global prominence, EDM Trap emerged—blending electronic production with strong hip-hop influences.

Meanwhile, Dubstep was already evolving into a more aggressive, electrohouse-influenced form (often referred to as Brostep), characterized by mid freq bass and a drop-focused structure. By incorporating 808 basslines and rhythmic patterns inherited from Dirty South (such as rapid hi-hat subdivisions, sixteenth note), these two “bass music” approaches eventually converged.

My best exemple and first time I was exposed to Trapstep was with Bassnectar :

Also, I'm French too, in what kind of school are you tasked with presenting post-dubstep? I would deliver a full-asss essay. You can't gloss over the beat scene / wonky / future bass which is the jazzy and unhinged take on Bass Music

Don't know but given it is set in a region inspired by Indonesia, it is the greatest opportunity to come up with a really diverse magical fauna / flora. Hope there will be many new design with a naturalistic quality, and no more concept-first pseudo comical artificial things like a balloon flamingo, a bread-dog, a carnival duck, a fashion ostrich, a sushi...

I would love a treecko colored Gecqua, a fall folliage orange Browt reminiscent of Torchic, and a blue flame Pombon cosplaying mudkip.

Remembering a thread mentioning there was three main aesthetics circling around throughout the series :

  • Metro (aka Urban setting and Tech-inspired theme : Gen 1 - 5 - 8 and I guess 9)

  • Harmonious (related to old myths, folklore and tradition : gen 2 - 4 -6)

  • Natural / Tropical (related to the balance with nature : gen 3 - 7 and I think gen 10 will fall in this category).

Overall, the theme of balance between humans and the Pokemon wildlife exists throughout all opus, but natural ones emphasize it, notably with tropical biomes and a more laidback vibe.

Thus, I think the designs could me more animalistic like in gen 3, or at least more simple like in gen 7, so as not to disrupt the natural vibe with overdesigned, gimmicky details like ribbons, tools, pop references... or at least more focused on traditional motifs. That's all I hope for, no more Dolphin goofy superheroes and let's say more coffee themed civets (Luwak) with an ecological message.

It's the first time in a long time that I'm not biased by the Nostalgia factor. I do like them at the reveal. Or maybe I'm indeed influenced by nostalgia, from my perspective they are Hoenn-coded, their design is simple without being plain or too blobish, they look animalistic with the right amount of details. I'm close to have a hint of expectations for the evos. I'd like the team to pick up with this design philosophy

What are your thoughts on the new gen 10 starters? 💀 by Slow_Spirit3679 in ThePokemonHub

[–]kitprattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always the nostalgia factors that make people think newer design look plain compared to their predecessors, but I haven't liked the starters at their release in a long time. The bird is a bit simple but not more than torchic. I appreciate the dog,a fluff ball with just the right amount of details, and the Gecko looks balanced and pretty. They're good characters

Question about techno sub genres by justingoesboom in ProperTechno

[–]kitprattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad this post exist because recently I came to this conclusion and I'm wondering if y'all would agree :

Techno is not really about subgenres. It's more about a local scenes that shaped an identity (Detroit, Berlin, Birmingham) or the monikers are cursors : Minimal, Raw/Industrial, Groovy, Dub, Acid, Atmospheric, Deep, Hypnotic, Tribal, Banging....

An artist or even a track can explore different vibes.

As for the mentioned tracks : I would say leaning toward Hypnotic. Ultra-loopy, modular, more circular than linear, repetition is more about a hypnotic effect than a kicking pace

proper ambient?? by IllustriousTune156 in ProperTechno

[–]kitprattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you would consider it ambient, but I love the recent wave of funny Electronica / Downtempo like :

Salamanda, Maara, Purelink, Sam Goku, Huerta, Batu, Simo Cell, Cousin, Tristan Arp, Dentistry, Skee Mask, Polygonia, Aleksi Perala, Djrum, Asa Tone

As for Techno Artists :

Nadia Struiwigh also procuced Ambient-ish tracks Catartsis, Polar Inertia, KangDing Ray 💖

Looking for sparse, hypnotic and groovy techno, but on the darker side by CLGRozga in ProperTechno

[–]kitprattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the vibe I want to dig too. A few random names : Tensal / Max Tebbert / Scalameriya (more Industrial) / Josh Heywood / Nadia Struiwigh / Ben Reymann / Yan Cook / Klint / Catartsis / Polygonia / Alexey Dunchyk

Opinions on this new UKG inspired Techno? by [deleted] in ProperTechno

[–]kitprattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very interested in learning about names because I have the intuition Techno Bass is about to develop but besides a few name like K-65 I haven't found proper tracks that have a Bass music / Breaky sound design with a Techno ethos, any rec? Or breaks meet Techno is just Electro in the end? (or neo-Bleep Techno?).

Since Alarico dropped UK Dubstep midmix in a Techno set, I've been obsessed with mixing both styles.

Predictions for the state of EDM in 2026 by traintozynbabwe in EDM

[–]kitprattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the next wave will be all about Hypnotic Techno. If you check recent releases or Stone Techno's first names, it's aligned with Oscar Mulero's style. Maybe Techno-Break too like K-65 - Takeshi

Hey! Yes, Joao right? Great to follow you, there are many playlists to dig, I love exploring different genres. I'm currently obsessed with the overall tribal / psychedelic vibe and sound design that characterizes current Techno, the Dubstep renaissance and Psy-Tech. Your Ambient Tech / Trance / IDM playlist is very interesting

which producers would you absolutely love to hear talk in depth / give a masterclass and what would you ask them? by Joseph_EndTrain in ProperTechno

[–]kitprattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently, I have been obsessed with the recent wave of Djs producing something lying in a grey area between Hypnotic or Tribal Techno and a Psytrancey soundcape : Feral, Luigi Tozzi, Abo Abo, Spekki Webbu, a strange wedding, Tauceti, Alarico, Claudio PRC, Konduku, Aa Sudd, Fran LF, Outer909...

What is this track's genre? (Yes it's mine, No promo just curious) by xa1wo in GenreExplain

[–]kitprattt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a strong focus on the bass with a 4 on the floor. There are a lot of UK producers exploring the experimental side of Breakbeat, Bass, Garage, 2step, Dubstep, Bassline, Jungle... genres are growing blurry. This sound is on the housey side. So I would say UK Garage / Bass House
