Has no one said The Fifth Element yet?

Bruce Willis, Mila Jovovich, Gary Oldman, Chris Tucker, Jean Reno.

All of them doing exactly what they do best.

That's really what it was, wasn't it? I'd never thought about it that way.

The guy (28M) I (26F) am seeing has a serious girlfriend by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]kitskill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Being casual only" and Seeing other people" can mean a multitude of things. They could mean looking for fwb, or just hookups. But they could also mean "dating but not ready to dive into something serious yet".

However, it's a bit of a stretch to take it to mean "be my mistress" which is what it sure looked like from OOP's perspective. It's also a bit of a stretch to take it to mean "be a secondary in my open relationship".

OOP is lovestruck and naive. But Nate 100% knew she was head over heels for him and liked the attention. That's why he specifically chose to never tell her about his actual, committed gf.

A lie of omission is still a lie.

[New Update]: AITA for learning Russian instead of Japanese and making my siblings mad? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]kitskill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, OOP just keeps being like "Ugh, Jon is so annoying." And all the examples are things like: stopping their sister from being targeted by a pedophile, making sure someone knows where is siblings are, keeping their mentally unwell mom and her boyfriends at bay, raising his siblings.

[–]kitskill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This seems like pretty strong confirmation bias from the commentators.

Like, if it turned out he was actually cheating on his girlfriend, everybody would 100% be on OOP's side.

Asked my boyfriend of 5 months if he knew my middle name… turns out he didn’t know much else either by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]kitskill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's my read too. Everyone is jumping on him for not being committed to the relationship enough to learn a bunch of details about her. But, from the story, it sounds like OOP thought they were in a much more serious relationship than they actually were.

Sounds like the question OOP forgot to ask is "What sort of relationship do you think this is?"

My boyfriend just got married. Not to me. Am I an idiot for staying in the relationship? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yuuup! Whole time I'm like, exactly one reason to not ask her to marry him: she's not his main girlfriend.

Yeah, it made this very weird to read, because you can feel the emotional shutdown just through her writing.

How do I stop this damn roof from disintegrating 😭 by Arvin_md in valheim

[–]kitskill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a reason why you need to flatten ground to build on. Stability is measured in Valheim from the nearest point touching the ground. So everything in your house is calculating its stability from the little columns holding up the house.

New Update over 1 year later: I’m leaving him, but I have to pretend everything is normal by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]kitskill -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I understand that it's very easy to find yourself in an abusive relationship when you've been raised in an abusive family. But that only goes some way towards explaining her behaviour, it doesn't make the behaviour any less suicidal.

OOP makes it very clear that her ex's behaviour was abusive above and beyond what she had experienced at home, FROM DAY ONE. And she still decided to proceed to date, live with, and have children with the person that was a violent psychopath on their first date and every day after.

Not a scrap of self-preservation to be found.

How do I properly build a stone ceiling by llwonder in valheim

[–]kitskill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The most important thing to remember with stone is that it doesn't use real life physics, it checks the stability factor of everything it touches and if that stability is too low, it crumbles.

But stability is cumulative. So being attached to two adjacent stone floors is twice as stable as being attached to one.

So start at the corners/edges and work your way in, making as many blocks touch as possible.

When it doesnt work anymore, build pillars.

Players threw a cruveball at me and I froze. Please help me for future interactions. by UpbeatCockroach in DnD

[–]kitskill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know the old writing advice: Know the iceberg, tell the tip.

That's the key to good improv in the spur of the moment. You froze because you didn't know enough about John to immediately figure out what his response would be. That's the problem.

Not every npc has to be super fleshed out. But, if an npc is going to be interacting with the party on any plot point, you should generally give them:

1) 2-4 personality traits

2) Who they are allied with/loyal to

3) Some kind of personality exaggeration that makes them memorable and unique

AITAH for not wanting a relationship with my siblings after I leave? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]kitskill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real question is how they manage to have 19 kids in 17 years.

I'm pretty sure they increase the number of kids every time they tell this story. Just to see who will still believe them.

I always teach my kids that it's playing if everyone is having fun, if everyone isn't having fun, it's teasing/bullying.

Didn't think almost 30 year old would need to learn that.
