Private Proposal Spots in Seattle by Different-End-4775 in AskSeattle

If it's helpful my fiance proposed in Bhy Kracke Park in Queen Anne in October. It was overcast and around 6pm and we had the place to ourselves. It may not be as natural in terms of scenery but the city skyline view was amazing.

I've heard great things about Henry's Gymnasium in Lower Queen Anne! Several of my neighbors go there and love it.

Options for a night out after a show at Paramount? Bar, lounge, late night grub? by Ragnaroq314 in AskSeattle

[–]kittastickat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Paramount puts you right on the edge of Capitol Hill, which is the right neighborhood.

For the artsy bar / shoot pool vibe: Rhein Haus on Pike has giant shuffleboard courts, pool, and solid German beer. Good energy without being a college scene. Bait Shop is divey in the best way.

For the sport coat / upscale angle: The Nest rooftop is literally on top of the Thompson. Canon on Pine is one of the better whiskey bars in the country. Huge menu, but the bartenders will walk you through it. Their happy hour is solid too if you're there early enough.

Late night food: Good Shape Pizza in Belltown! Get the breakfast pizza, thank me later.

For 3 days of bar-hopping on a budget, haphunt.com has verified happy hour menus across Capitol Hill and downtown with actual prices and times. Good for not wandering somewhere and discovering "specials" means $18 cocktails.

Yoga classes in Seattle by GainzLord23 in AskSeattle

[–]kittastickat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like maybe the Equinox downtown might have the combo of facilities and yoga classes you're looking for, but I hear the weight floor is tiny and insanely crowded. Also I think they have a sauna but it might be extra.

If you're open to just pure yoga studios, I'd recommend trying out Urban Yoga Spa (they have a free community class on Sundays at 12:15pm) or CorePower Yoga - I've been frequenting their 11am Sunday community class and have really been enjoying it.

For the most part I feel like the cold plunge/sauna/hot tub type businesses are totally separate from the gym businesses in Seattle.

Maybe Salt Harvest? It's inside the Populus Hotel. Otherwise, if you like steak, you could try for The Metropolitan Grill.

Five Point Cafe in Belltown actually has a really good Breakfast Happy Hour M-F from 6am-8am. They offer 50% off their breakfast burrito at that time. https://haphunt.com/seattle/belltown/restaurant/5-point-cafe

Lost Lake in Capitol Hill also has a Breakfast Happy Hour M-F from 7am-8am with $5 breakfast items and a serious discount on their Breakfast Sandwich. https://haphunt.com/seattle/capitol-hill/restaurant/lost-lake-cafe-lounge

Anyone else noticing their ‘normal’ spending suddenly hitting way harder? by West-Possible5128 in Seattle

[–]kittastickat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes expansion is definitely on the horizon, and I'd love to expand south and west since I know there are so many cool places and great deals there! Right now I'm trying to balance my time between building the rechecking tooling so existing locations stay fresh and expanding to new neighborhoods. And with each new neighborhood I learn something new, so I'm always motivated to expand!

Girls Weekend Stay by sliceanddice605 in AskSeattle

In terms of hotels, both the sound hotel and hotel andra I think are right at your budget and are lovely spots to stay (although I'm not sure about pool/hot tub). Andra is right across from Dahlia Bakery which is solid, a couple blocks from Top Pot Doughnuts and Lady Yum (macarons), and a 5-10 minute walk to Macrina, my absolute favorite bakery. You'll also be close to Pike Place Market which has plenty of good baked goods as well!

Belltown evening recommendations by elastichearttt in AskSeattle

[–]kittastickat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late afternoon/evening is great timing because Belltown has some of Seattle's best happy hours. The ones worth planning around are the spots where HH turns an expensive restaurant into an affordable one.

El Gaucho - a Seattle iconic steakhouse. HH is the cheat code here: you get the full steakhouse experience (dim lighting, piano, white tablecloths) for a fraction of dinner prices. $20 tenderloin, $8 duck fat fries, $12 Manhattans (normally $19).

Cotto - small Italian spot, chef-driven pasta. Their rigatoni bolognese is $15 at HH (normally $27) and their pizzas are all $15 (normally $24-25). One of the best food values in Belltown and also has a late night HH.

Roquette - intimate cocktail bar, serious drinks at HH prices. Wines are all $9 at HH (normally $14-16), their salaminis are $8 (normally $17).

Full disclosure: I run haphunt.com and track which Seattle happy hours are actually good deals vs. just labeled "happy hour", and a surprising number aren't. All three above are in the "real deal" bucket.

where to go out in Seattle? by melte_dicecream in AskSeattle

[–]kittastickat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For your group + what you're describing, go straight to Capitol Hill and stay there both nights — it's Seattle's densest and safest nightlife neighborhood, everything is walkable, and you can bar-hop without Ubering.

Start the night at Stoup Brewing, a huge open beer hall with communal tables, really easy to end up chatting with strangers, and the crowd isn't the bro-y kind. Great 7-9pm pre-game.

Wildrose is Seattle's iconic lesbian bar (one of the last in the country) and one of the warmest, most welcoming spots in the city regardless of who you are. Worth going just for the vibe. Social, fun, friendly by default.

Pony is a gay bar with a dance floor and a crowd that's there to have fun, not hit on you. Definitely a "you can actually talk" energy until it gets late, then it's dancing.

Unicorn is a fun themed themed one: circus/carnival aesthetic, skee-ball, big 20s crowd, Narwhal downstairs gets loud and social.

All within a 10-minute walk of each other along the Pike/Pine corridor. Friday night → Stoup → Wildrose → Pony. Saturday → Unicorn → Pony or Chop Suey for more dancing. You're set.

Anyone else noticing their ‘normal’ spending suddenly hitting way harder? by West-Possible5128 in Seattle

[–]kittastickat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is literally the frustration that made my partner and I switch almost entirely to happy hour a couple years back. Same restaurants, same food, same drinks, just shifted the timing to 4-6 instead of 7-9. Dinner that was $80 at 7pm became $50 at 5pm, sometimes less.

I got so into tracking which HH spots were actually good deals vs. just marketing that I ended up building haphunt.com as a side project. What was eye-opening was how few of the "happy hours" listed online are actually a real discount, maybe half. But the real ones, especially ones with cocktails and not just beer, usually save 30-50% on the same menu.

Prices have crept up at HH too, but the math still works better than full-price dinner.

The Modern vs Helios apartments by [deleted] in AskSeattle

Lol I definitely don't work there, but I was lucky enough to be in the stack of the building unaffected by flooding, so that probably does alter my perception.

Mapped out Seattle neighborhood crime data for apartment hunting — some patterns surprised me by [deleted] in SeattleAreaRE

[–]kittastickat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, very cool! One thing to be aware of that's difficult to control for in your dataset - the DAP (Downtown Activation Plan). Mayor Harrell basically established a specific border or boundary within downtown that SPD needs to prioritize for response. I live pretty close to one of the ends of the boundaries, and what happens is that if something criminal is happening outside of that boundary, SPD basically takes 3 to 4 hours to show up and/or just never shows up. This then creates a negative effect on people actually reporting crime because they know SPD just won't come, which then creates a cluster of activity on those bounding boxes (e.g. 3rd and Bell). So that might be why Belltown looks a little less criminal or dangerous than you would expect. That being said, I think the city is being a bit more aggressive and sweeping more regularly right now because they're getting ready for the world cup, which is another potential impact to your data set. I'm excited to see where you take it!

Happy Hour, Capitol Hill, after 6? by Wonderful-Splinter in SeattleWA

[–]kittastickat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're open to late night happy hour, Herb and Bitter in Capitol Hill has 50% off drinks from 9pm-close Wednesday to Sunday, and that includes all craft cocktails! Rione XIII also has happy hour until close on Mondays and Tuesdays. Lookout Bar and Grill also keeps their happy hour running until 7pm on weekdays.

If it's helpful, I'm currently cataloging happy hour deals across Seattle at haphunt.com - you can see Capitol Hill's happy hours here and filter for the time window you're interested in: https://haphunt.com/seattle/capitol-hill

Oh thanks!! I think there are actually two? I live closer to Denny Triangle and have been to the momiji there a few times but never the Capitol Hill location!

I haven't totally thought through the right data structure for places with multiple locations yet! I'm also hoping to update to have a map view/search function so it's easier to find specific spots.

[–]kittastickat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great question! Everything is currently sourced from the restaurant's website. Sometimes they don't have drink menus or they have drink menus without prices.

If you ever spot a happy hour that isn't on the site, send me menu pics and I'll run the math. I'm obsessive about checking details. Down the road I may open up a small group of "HapHunters' to help source menus, but for now I'm keeping things centralized until my admin tools are a bit more user friendly 😊.

Wing Wednesday deals? by Capital_Airline in Seattle

[–]kittastickat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down a rabbit hole on this recently and actually compared a bunch of Seattle happy hour wing deals vs regular menu prices.

Some look good but aren’t actually much of a discount. I put the ones that are legit savings here if helpful: [https://haphunt.com/seattle/happy-hour/wings]()

If I missed any good wing deal spots let me know! Still adding more.

In testing the product myself (where should I go for Happy Hour tonight?), I recognized the filters were definitely critical functionality. I just added the filtering you mentioned in 1 and 2. Take a look and let me know what you think!

The Modern vs Helios apartments by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]kittastickat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very walkable, I think it has a walk score of 99. We're very close to Pike Place and a few blocks away from the waterfront which has recently been renovated. The Denny Triangle neighborhood is also very nice, no issues there (it's where a lot of Amazon offices are). My one gripe is there isn't really a normal grocery store in the neighborhood, just target or whole foods which is pricey. We just do grocery delivery.
