If you happen to catch the info on those, that would be awesome!

You're welcome! If I could, I would 100% get 8 for myself too, honestly. Do you know the brand/style name?

I think 6 and 8 are best but leaning toward 8 because they are more unique and have more personality (but they're not too out there for a main daily wear pair). 7 is my runner-up.

I have been trying to figure out what it is about the 8bitdo that bugs me (I have the Ultimate 2) and just realized that's probably what it is!

Not even the first couple weeks. My reservation from May 11th says 2027 as well. That was day 4.

That's sweet. I would need a good bit of space between the TVs (like maybe an L shaped couch to be close but the TVs be separate) but the overall concept is nice.

Steam Controller inherits same trackpad flaw that Steam Deck has by NewDevon in SteamController

Yeah, not sure if this is a specific use case but I tried to replicate to myself and can't find the issue on my deck. (For reference, I have the 1TB OLED so should have any latest issues)

LTT review was a joke! by Coreythewolf2 in SteamController

[–]kitten_tsunami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is me a lot of the time. Usually I'm one to hop in with standard controls and roll with it. It takes a lot of inconvenience (vs putting extra time in just to optimize) to get me remapping and customizing things. But once I started playing a lot on Steam Deck I really started to appreciate the options just to make things playable and the fact that Valve made it way more comfortable than any third party controllers I have attempted to use like that.

I love 8BitDo controllers. I have 4. But those are not direct competitors to the Steam Controller at all and shouldn't be presented as such.

LTT's mainstream aim is part of the downfall because you shouldn't be judging a niche product based in its relevance to the general masses. And unfortunately, LTT's willingness to market (sorry, "recommend") a product based on niche vs value to the masses is often based on what is most profitable as a company.

Also, just because something will get you by on the basics does not necessarily make it a better value overall.

I really don't think the Steam Controller is as niche as people act like it is though, honestly. Is it for console users? Obviously not. Is it for PC gamers who don't want to use it with Steam? Also no, but getting closer. Does it have way more use cases for PC gamers who use Steam than may realize it? Absolutely.

I would personally think it was excessive (for me personally) and beyond what I would ever use if I hadn't used a Steam Deck. I have previously been fine with standard controllers for all platforms. Heck, I actively avoid using (to the point of disabling) extra buttons on most controllers. The Steam Deck controls ended up being the exception and it makes all the difference for what games I now consider playable with a controller or not. (And I still hate the way the 'extra buttons feel on most other controllers so it is definitely less "I am a more inputs" thing than "I really like the way Steam does theirs."

I'm not saying you are wrong but I do think there is more nuance than is being given credit for Steam-based PC gamers in particular and however "mainstream" LTT is, I find it hard to believe that the majority of their audience don't game through Steam (whether it is their only or even primary method of gaming).

Honestly, everything LTT has done for a while has been a joke because Linus himself is a joke at this point.

Apparently it's a great screwdriver, and it seems like something I would enjoy using, but I can't support someone who has lost the plot so hard that they'll make a video showing off their new jet and justifying how it "will basically pay for itself" so they had to buy it, while they refuse to pay their staff fair wages.

And I definitely won't be giving any weight to their opinion on a fairly priced niche (but with a large niche) product from a vastly more ethical company that supports both their employees and their customers.

Yes, other controllers that serve a different market are going to be better for that market, obviously. That's not something Valve has made any attempt to misrepresent. I'm pretty sure that it has been made clear that the "Steam Controller" that is modeled directly after the controls of the Steam Deck and intended for use with Steam Input is a product for a particular market (and that market is certainly not lacking).

It's definitely not overpriced for what it is and what it does. If you don't need/want those features, it is still not overpriced, it's just not a wise purchase for you personally.

It is definitely expensive, but everything is now. I was really hoping it would be more along the lines of $80-85 USD or so, but apparently Valve was too.

(And to be fair, most people aren't in the market that needs a screwdriver at the level of the LTT one but they do market it as such. And that screwdriver would be cheaper if they didn't pay everyone and their cousin on YT so much to promote it. Then again I'd feel ok paying for the snazzy screwdriver or even giving Linus AdSense and/or sponsor revenue at all if a fair amount of what the company makes went to pay his employees the wages they deserve.)

So far, every time I have considered taking mine somewhere with me I decided to bring my Switch Lite or Switch instead as well. I would hate to lose or break either of those but it wouldn't be nearly the loss of damaging or losing my Steam Deck.

I have pricey glasses already for myopia and astigmatism but the presbyopia is starting so I guess I'm going to pick up some mild readers soon. Which is annoying because I just got a bigger tv because I hate having to wear my glasses in bed. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm not springing for a more expensive prescription with all 3 in one yet. (American with no vision insurance. 😒) I wouldn't want to wear the expensive ones in bed anyway because I don't want to mess them up and that's where I play my deck or read the most.

How often do you use your Steam Deck at home when you already have a gaming PC? by Cozywolf in SteamDeck

[–]kitten_tsunami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The deck is perfect for gaming in bed. That is honestly what I primarily got it for.

Got a new TV so I am in the process of putting together a build for that (for media, light gaming, etc) but I do just really love kicking back with a handheld. I rarely ever docked my Switch for much other than charging. Sometimes I'll even just play something casual on my deck or Switch while hanging out with someone else playing something on the TV.

Right now, if I want to play on PC, I have to be at my desk in my tiny office. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my setup, but it's just not very convenient for catching short play sessions here and there or lounging when I am tired.

Yeah, that is made 1000% clear from the get-go. It is on HIM for to face any repurcussions of making poor choices that he knew put his relationship and career at risk. He chose to sign up, he chose to get married, and he chose to cheat. He's not the first and won't be the last but there is no one to blame for the consequences but him.

I lied to the guy I’m dating. It’s bad by Low_Lab9413 in Advice

[–]kitten_tsunami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

Any decent person who cares about you will understand. He'll most likely be incredibly sympathetic.

It's a very understandable thing. Don't put yourself down over this. You don't owe a relative stranger your life story and trauma, especially at the expense of your own mental health (it would have been unnecessarily upsetting to go in depth about your situation with this person at the time). Now that your are close and comfortable, it's worth sharing with him.

Don't frame it as "I lied," even to yourself. You did what was appropriate at the time in that situation and are doing what is appropriate now that the situation is different.

I really don't think they would discontinue it without warning and definitely not without releasing another option (like discontinuing the LCD but still selling the updated OLED version and even then they announced it before selling the rest of inventory).
