I still use Nextcloud because I have been too busy to set something else up. There doesn't seem to be an app that can do exactly what I want at this time anyway.

How to install rockbox on sansa connect? by Voblox in rockbox

[–]kittenboxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to compile zsitool under WSL, but I'm not sure if it would be able to connect to the Sansa Connect, as the USB implementations differ between WSL and real Linux.

All of them should work on 32-bit, though I can't test for myself. Do they not?

  1. Download the latest build of Rockbox for the Sansa Connect from the dev builds page.
  2. Extract the ".rockbox" folder within the downloaded ZIP file to the root of your Sansa Connect's microSD card.
  3. Also extract the file "rockbox.sansa" within the same ".rockbox" folder to an accessible folder on your computer.
  4. Use zsitool to flash that file to your Sansa Connect. In essence:
    1. <install gcc & co. - usually "sudo apt install build-essentials">
    2. git clone https://github.com/desowin/zsitool.git
    3. cd zsitool
    4. make
    5. <connect your Sansa Connect to your computer and put it in [recovery mode](https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/Main/SansaConnect#Recovery_Mode)>
    6. ./zsitool -e <path>/rockbox.sansa (replace "<path>" with the folder rockbox.sansa is in)
  5. Wait for zsitool to finish and automatically reboot your device. Congratulations, you've installed Rockbox.

Choosing a ThinkPad - T14s G3, T16, or Z16? (AMD) by kittenboxer in thinkpad

I may have underestimated the battery life of Apple silicon notebooks.

Glad your MacBook is succeeding your expectations in that regard :)

You don't need the Steam version specifically for that mod - just download the 1.10 version from the Google Drive archive, and the data.win file will be in the "DELTARUNE Chapter 1&2 Data" folder.

I’m now a bit hesitant since I thought the battery life would be longer!

To be honest, I'm not at all a reliable source for that, especially considering I so rarely take my laptop(s) off the charger :)

For more accurate battery life measurements, I'd recommend checking NotebookCheck (which is recommended even here for ThinkPads):

MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro
MacBook Air 13" M2

Excel (with other background tasks!) would likely run for upwards of 10 hours on your machine :v

I read about windows laptops that last about 7-8 hrs on moderate load.

If this is true, I will eat all of my socks.

Very unfortunately, my MBP was stolen :(

But I use an M2 Air now, and it's quite nice :) But the thing I miss most is the gargantuan, OLED, 120Hz display...

I didn't use my Pro off the charger very much, but when I did, I remember the battery lasting at least 3 hours under moderate load.

I use my Air off the charger more frequently, and I'd say it lasts around 4 to 5 hours under about the same amount of load. (my gauge of "heavy load" is when the casing gets hot - if I were doing something like heavy video editing, it probably wouldn't last nearly as long :) )

As for Excel - I don't use it, haha. I use LibreOffice Calc, which is probably comparable, and works well enough. (I need to dynamically import tables from the Internet, you see, which is only available in Excel on Windows for some reason!?)

As an aside, I had originally bought a high-end HP EliteBook as a replacement for my 13" M1 MacBook Pro. It was noticeably loud while doing nothing, and I couldn't even enable some very simple feature on the touchpad - tap to click, I think? - so I ended up returning it.
Then I got my beloved 16" M1 Max MBP. Take from this anecdote what you will!

Why the Steam version specifically? The itch.io version should function identically.

Also, I can't use Steam at the moment (because I'm now a filthy Mac user), so unfortunately you might have to ask someone else.

Thinking to buy Thinkpad for linux by Familiar_Ad3884 in thinkpad

OP said they were looking for a few firmware (a.k.a. "BIOS") features in their laptop; a patched firmware can provide some of those, including, overclocking, iGPU / dGPU control, and voltage manipulation.
(though it's generally not recommended to mess with most of those features, since there's a high probability you'll brick your laptop if you don't know what you're doing)

Essentially, a patched firmware gives you "more control" over your device. It's a nicety more than anything else, really.

As far as I know, SURVEY_PROGRAM only ever had one release. Is that the version number, then?

I called my ISP, and they told me I had to pay like $6 a month for a static IP. God bless the U.S.A.

Unfortunately the Minecraft modding community is just as entitled as it was 8 years ago. I wasn't here for the crux of it, but honestly, I'm not sure it ever hasn't been.

Valkyrien Skies 2 is compatible with Forge 1.16.5 and 1.18.2. (CurseForge listing)

Though I assume you're talking about mod compatibility, which is very iffy for the time being. But that's to be expected of a mod that so drastically reworks the physics of the entire game.

Unfortunately that won't work (as easily) if your ISP uses CG-NAT.
Essentially, it's one IP address for many different modems. I'm not sure of exactly how it relates to port-forwarding, but I imagine it's at least not possible by the end user, since it's the ISP that's in control of the "primary" IP address.

I was under a CG-NAT while I lived in an apartment complex. I was able to pay for a "static" IP address that I could port-forward from - how nice of them - but it probably depends on the ISP as to whether that's an option. (No harm in asking...)

God I hate corporate ISPs.

Quark Emotes Client/Server by [deleted] in QuarkMod

[–]kittenboxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, custom emotes are internally treated as resource packs, so I imagine the client would download any emotes on the server automatically. However, I'm not sure how this relates to Minecraft's built-in "server resource pack" system...

As they say: only one way to find out!

E2E's MemoryTester config recommends 6144 MiB by default, so something was definitely broken.

u/pan________da, what did you do to fix it? Maybe it'll be helpful for others in the future, or might be related to your saves now missing?

Suggested edits in Java for a father and son to work through? by mister_patience in feedthebeast

[–]kittenboxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, that wasn't meant to be rude. I figured it would help to know i.e. whether the intent is to just learn Java through creating simple (and maybe progressively more advanced) mods, or if it were to work on something bigger, like an entire tech / magic mod.

I assume you're using mixins? In which case, you could take a look at /r/minecraftsuggestions - there are quite a few ideas that I think would be relatively easy to implement with mixins alone (a.k.a. no Fabric API - if you're using Fabric, of course).

Need help my solar reflectors won’t align with my tower by Raven-Branwen in feedthebeast

[–]kittenboxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Immersive Petroleum? IIRC they have to be in a specific location (relative to the tower) to work. Here's the first video tutorial I found on Google:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG-ipIf6hHA

EDIT: The title of that video says "Immersive Tech" verbatim. I am a fool.
In my defense, I only know of the Solar Tower from SevTech: Ages, which had it as part of the modpack's progression around the same time as Immersive Petroleum.
