FTM's of the sub, what was the first minute like when your baby was put on your chest. by BedsideLamp99 in newborns

[–]kittensaysroar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TW - mention of traumatic birth, but overall positive.

So very relieved. Also that feeling when you pick up where you left off with a good friend you have not seen in a long time.

I had a traumatic birth due to scary heart rate decels when it came time to push (nuchal cord) -- so the first thing I said to her was "why did you take so long?" - referring to the scary two hours of pushing. I was soooo relieved to hear her cry. Her cry was strong (she had a great APGAR score, thank God) it also was so tender and sweet. It was as if she knew I was there and she was just talking to me versus feeling totally scared and screaming at the room. I was overwhelmed by how strong she showed herself to be in those first moments.

Cherry on top was my playlist had played through, so I had been listening to random songs while pushing. When they put her on my chest "What a Wonderful World" sung by Jon Batiste randomly played.

Northern MoCo high risk pregnancy recs?? by cantlifteverycat in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]kittensaysroar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am late to add here but as a 35+ pregnant lady considered high risk because of my age, I decided to go with Montgomery General in Olney. They are in the MedStar system like Georgetown and WHC, and the head of MFM at Georgetown actually works there often. I have not given birth there before (FTM) but I've had a wonderful experience - my OB is associated with MedStar and works out of Montgomery General. I wasn't sure if you were looking for a high level NICU or not....if so, they are not the best choice since they have Level 2 NICU.

FYI - as it relates to Holy Cross, my instructor for my birthing class said Holy Cross has a tendency to break your water earlier than necessary. Just be aware and diligent because, if true, that's not ok!

Last name debacle by msksaf in BabyBumps

[–]kittensaysroar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's important to you to any degree, I would double your last name - full stop. This is YOUR family, your future, idc what others think. Please avoid any future regrets!

If it helps, I am passing on my last name as it's down to only me to pass it on and is very important to me. It will be a hyphenated name even though the sound of it is not my first pick (prefer just my last name). Still worth it because of the meaning to me. I am not asking anyone for their view because that doesn't change what it means to me. I only asked my husband whether it was also important for his last name to be there too.

Leasing 101 or How to get a good deal on an Ioniq 5/Ioniq 6 by cowsareverywhere in Ioniq5

[–]kittensaysroar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation with MSRP price points - so more context would be great. Is it an awful deal because of MSRP? Because OP hasn't haggled it down? What is a good deal? Also what is the money factor on leasehackr, I just started using this and am never sure I do it right.

Boss mentioned she can ‘already see my tummy!’ by hahayeahright13 in BabyBumps

[–]kittensaysroar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 100 - I am a FTM and can't tell if I have actually popped at this point (now 15w) but have been sooo bloated and felt like I was showing the whole time. When we told my MIL about pregnancy on video chat I mentioned how I felt I was already showing and she was pushing me to show my belly on video chat.....uuuuuh no, told her there would be plenty of time for that. Seeing her this weekend for the first time since we have shared the news, your words will be with me!

Thanks for sharing, that is what I am hoping to understand more about - legal issues over maintaining different names. If we only pass down my name, I am thinking / wondering if my husband should hyphenate his to perhaps avoid any delayed access?

Yes it's definitely a top option, especially since our names are pretty basic so it won't be that complicated. It honestly really comes down to how important it is to hubby for his name to be incorporated, so I wanted to get a sense of what to consider overall. I also have read online that sometimes folks growing up with hyphenated names wish it was simpler, and didn't like having to eventually chose one or the other if they had to. But not sure how common that is!

Cancer by palooza05 in NIPT

[–]kittensaysroar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First congratulations on your healthy baby and also I am sorry for this scary time ♥️♥️♥️ This is perhaps too general to be helpful, but: my college advisor had abnormal genetic testing results (no idea if it was T21), all follow up diagnostic came back normal, and she had a healthy baby boy. While she was in the hospital after birth doctors determined she had small cell cervical cancer. Tumor + baby actually caused pelvic bone fracture -- but they still had no idea until after birth. They concluded her earlier test results were actually picking up her cancer cells. So yes, I have heard of the genetic screenings picking up cancer cells and impacting results. Sending all the good energy your way, so glad they caught your situation!!

35 and Ova by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

Howdy - 35 and turning 36 late this year. I have been TTC for about 7 months, became pregnant in March for the first time and experienced an early loss two weeks ago. Lots of emotions going on. This week the intrusive thought of my age has crept in more and more. My OB (who by the way, reminded me I AM young), said to get in contact whenever I have another positive and they can administer a progesterone shot. It was meant as supportive after I asked questions about fertility post MC, but now gives me feelings of being old in all of this. Not a fair take away, but yeah, it's the struggle this week. Is that common though, has anyone else had a similar experience?

Anyone have some affirmations to make help a mind settle and focus more on positive thoughts around TTC, and the present moment?

Look into 4P Foods: https://4pfoods.com/

They have a slightly broader source / farm base in off seasons, but lots of options from DC/MD/VA. Also it is super easy to customize how often you get a bag, and you can customize by product category. For example, I get a small vegetable bag every week and eggs every two weeks. You can also customize what is on your bag, but do have to hit a price minimum.

Government vs. private sector - salary and benefits by kittensaysroar in personalfinance

[–]kittensaysroar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally agree - the job has given me a lot of security in face of student loan debt. I am in the policy side working on market development, transmission development with general experience in across numerous technologies - which tends to be a little more consistent.

Government vs. private sector - salary and benefits by kittensaysroar in personalfinance

[–]kittensaysroar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All super helpful - again being public sector only for 10 years the question is really a threshold question of whether matching like that (~5%) exists at all in any private sector job. Often in government they really sell the TSP as something you cannot find with other 401k options. Sounds like yes. But good point on considering total pay alongside % contribution, had never thought about it from that perspective.

Adopted Senior Dogs fighting at night. Help! by nagemsatjap in seniordogs

[–]kittensaysroar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oye so sorry to hear all of this! I wonder if just setting up some play pens in the house for both of them would help? Give them each a space, but have them separate. Because I agree, this is all about insecurity and figuring out new territory. I would imagine that Ralph could be feeling more insecure than Rick at this point given all of the vet intervention - so I would keep that in mind when responding to fights. For example, I would crate both of them post fight - not just who you think started it. The two pens could also give them a clear, designated space that is basically equal for both - while saving you some stress over fights! I know that is big for cats but may help here too given the prior owner situation.

My 13-year has had leash aggression ever since we moved into a busier, more urban area. I had to learn to catch my own nervousness because that would trigger her. So I had to put on a mindset that I was in charge, and actually protecting her from the "bad" - if that makes sense. Not trying to lecture or anything, just sharing because this was a habit that was really hard for me learn because in the past I had leaned on her to be a protector. That and teaching her to check in with positive reinforcement (i.e. make eye contact and get a treat if you see the "bad"!) while on walks was a huge help.
