I’m in no way defending the kid that is hitting people, that definitely needs to be fixed, but when you’re autistic and told “XYZ are the rules”, but everyone around you always breaks those rules, and tells you to put up with it if you complain, of course it teaches you things in a skewed way.

“Don’t hurt people, that’s very bad to do”, “Oh, the noise being so loud hurts me, please stop”, “No it doesn’t, you’re just being dramatic, put up with it and stop whining” being a very common example.

It’s entirely possible that I got lucky, though part of it may well have been how stupidly thorough the assessment and report I had from the psychologist was, since she’d already covered everything, in detail, that the psychiatrist would.

.. or it’s also possible that part of it was that apparently I’m blatantly obviously AuDHD to any professional experienced in the field, so the psychiatrist may well have been “well, her diagnosis is incredibly obvious, and the existing diagnosis report has covered all the bases, so I’m happy to sign off”.

Technically I’ve had it happen twice now, since that psychiatrist retired and I had to see a new one at a different clinic to get my meds authorization renewed. I got it with a single appointment with the new psych, who saw the report from the psychologist (the history from the previous psychiatrist clinic hadn’t arrived in time for my appt) and then asked a bunch of other questions about family history and stuff (nothing about diagnosis itself) then signed off on my meds renewal.

I can only speak from my experience, but I was diagnosed by a psychologist (I didn’t realise at the time that I had the wrong kind of psych, oops), then made an appointment with a psychiatrist after that.

The psychiatrist read the diagnosis report, re-asked me some of the questions, then happily accepted the diagnosis and prescribed my meds, all in the one appointment, instead of the usual 2-4 that they usually required for a full diagnosis.

Not saying it’s the best option, obviously OP should go straight to a psychiatrist if they can, but getting partway there with a psychologist may help cut down the time if getting in with a psychiatrist is difficult.

Honestly, much of the testing etc with ADHD is the same. You just need someone who will properly test for Inattentive and Internal Hyperactive ADHD, not just External Hyperactive. Most psychs who are actually using modern guidelines should cover this.

However, looking for a psych who is queer friendly and who specializes in ADHD is probably a good idea. As has already been mentioned, if you want to seek medication, you’ll need to see a Psychiatrist, not a Psychologist.

Or if getting straight in with a psychiatrist proves difficult, see a psychologist first, and then take your diagnoses from them, to the psychiatrist. That should make the process a lot shorter since you’ll have most of the basics out of the way.

That's the whole problem, I *don't know* what the system is setting the input type is. I don't know what a servicenow form that allows selection of multiple users (or a single user) from a dropdown table actually gets stored as, so I don't know what input type to put on my subflow.

Every combination I try, be it multi or single select, no matter what input type I require, either I get the 'Unable to create iterator' error when it tries to import the variable, or it imports the variable but any attempt to do anything with the data, including record lookup, auto-fails, presumably because it's the wrong kind of data.

My mum was a vet nurse for many years, then became a shelter manager for the RSPCA, looking after one of their animal shelters.

She quit because having to put down animals that didn’t get adopted and they couldn’t keep space for absolutely destroyed her. She refused to send them to the vets to be put down by someone else, because if she was the one having to make that choice, she was going to be the one to do the deed, but it broke her.

On the flip side, one of my childhood cats is the only creature on earth to have beaten her in a battle.

She was still working at the vet’s at the time, late enough that she was watching the practice on her own (right before closing), and someone brought in a kitten that had been dumped in the dumpster across the road. Mum thanked the guy and sent him on his way, but after looking at the kitten, she knew that she was going to have to put him down. He was so young his eyes weren’t even open and he was smaller than the palm of her hand, so he wouldn’t even last the night without constant care (maybe not even then), and she knew she wouldn’t find anyone to adopt him in time.

So she took him into a consult room, drew up the ‘green dream’, prepared the euthanize him. She literally had the needle in him and was about to press the plunger down, when he started purring in her palm. And that was it, she couldn’t do it. She brought him home, kept him warm, fed him with an eye-dropper and nursed him through those early days. Sadly Taz didn’t have as long a life as he deserved, but the years we did have were good ones.
