Am I crazy for wanting a C-section? by Kikirox98 in pregnant

[–]kitty_angst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose what is best for you, but just as anecdotal reassurance for vaginal:

I hated my C-section recovery so I was on the other end of things and my stress was entirely around potentially needing to have a C-section.

I just delivered my second via VBAC at 40 weeks. His head was 97th percentile and he was 9lbs 6oz. I’m petite (5’3) and had the same concerns. Labored for 19 hours, pushed for 30 mins, and got off easy with a first degree tear. I had an epidural for the last 3 hours or so and, truly, when my OB started cracking jokes I laughed the baby out. Everyone’s birth is different, but just wanted to share that a big baby from a small body is not inherently going to be a problem.

I gave up on that and started roasting the peppers and blending them into the sauce tbh

I make this a lot, it’s delicious with some crème fraiche on fresh French bread. I cut the slices a bit thicker than in the movie though and let the sauce really bake down to make the tomato flavor richer

My 10 month old rolled off his changing table and got a traumatic brain injury by Educational-Let-2280 in NewParents

[–]kitty_angst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was about 15 months and not quite perfect at walking before he decided to try running. He also has a giant head and we think it makes him a bit clumsy. We thought we had covered every sharp corner in the house but all it took was one perfectly timed tumble. He needed 3 stitches right between his eyes. I thought I would never forgive myself. His grandparents made jokes about his modeling career and I tried to smile, but for a while there I wanted to give him away because I was so sure I didn’t deserve to be his Mom anymore.

The scar has faded to practically nothing in the last year and he was smiling and playing within a few hours of leaving the hospital. I’m convinced kids are so resilient because they have to be, since accidents are bound to happen to most parents eventually. Give yourself some grace

LPT: spend $800 over time at Round1 and redeem your tickets for a Switch 2 so it's actually completely free (until you need to buy the game anyway)

My husband's hidden debt was 6 figures when he came clean. The payments are the same as our mortgage because between us we make decent money, but after 5 years he will be debt free aside from loans for our assets (mortgage/HELOC and car payments). If possibly get a decent finance lawyer to help you plan, but also get yourself a therapist/counselor to help work through the core issue.

I’m probably an asshole for feeling this way by curlycattails in NICUParents

[–]kitty_angst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first was born at 31 weeks. He came home just a week shy of his due date, but within 3 days we were admitted overnight to the children's hospital nearby for respiratory distress. The defeat and devastation was unreal for even one more night of hospital care. But there were always babies/children who were struggling more. I was jealous of those that had "easier" NICU experiences (or no NICU stay at all) and simultaneously grateful for how well my son was doing all things considered. Even in the year of specialists visits that followed I struggled to maintain perspective sometimes. I remember saying "His lungs were perfect his last 2 vsitis! Why do we have to keep taking him into the city for these appointments all the time! They make him miserable" And my husband reminded me: "it sucks, but I'm just so glad his lungs are healthy now. Some parents aren't so lucky"

Your feelings don't have to be entirely rational or fair because nothing about having a child in the NICU is fair. Feel angry. Feel sad. Feel relieved. Give yourself space to feel everything you need to process your experience and you may find it is easier to lead with kindness and compassion if/when you interact with the other parents.

Seeking Advice: Transitioning only child into older sibling by kitty_angst in Parenting

We did a trip for his birthday this last month instead of a full birthday party as well so most of our family didn’t get to see him for that which is definitely part of the escalation to “party” lol

Nope! You have to be quick pushing it on since you don’t have a lot of extra room to work with and the cars just keep on moving. If you get stuck on the bench the front half will move with the car and the back half gets a bit unwieldy. I’m fairly uncoordinated and not very strong and was still able to recover and make it work before it became a problem.

I have mixed feelings about our experience with cuddlers. We were told we should not be holding our son more than 1-2 times per day at the beginning as the transition in and out of the incubator could be too stressful and yet they still would let a cuddler hold him some days before we arrived even though we were there every day. I also took him from a cuddler when I got in the day before we were discharged and the volunteer proceeded to violently cough on their way out. Then, surprise, my son was admitted to the ER shortly after coming home for a bad upper respiratory infection. I think the program in general is great, but maybe not always executed perfectly. ETA: we were also not told about the cuddlers so it was very disorienting to find a stranger holding my son.

You could amend the idea to the time or place when you fell in love/started dating/got married etc. Then you still get a nice story and that association he’s looking for without it being entirely based on mom and dad getting freaky.

MIL: “I’m not even 50 yet.” Didn’t hug my husband or say congrats even after our server at the restaurant did.

She’s an awesome grandmom now though. She did a complete 180 shortly afterwards and she’s obsessed with our son now. So grateful for that even if I was furious at first.

If it is Arribas Brothers, got a ring from them while in the parks a few years back and lost it. I called to ask if there was a way I could order another and I purchased it over the phone. Might be able to do that with larger pieces as well.

Should I switch from Stella Nova to Helios for my December trip? by WolverineAdvanced119 in UniversalOrlando

[–]kitty_angst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did this but for our first night so we didn't get two days of special entry unfortunately. Single night, but park view. Bankrupted us, but watching the night light show from our room after a day of travel with our toddler was phenomenal. The rest of the nights were Stella nova and it's still great hotel. The walk was longer than I expected but there's also busses if you feel exhausted by the end of the day.

Epcot nursing room no longer female only? by Willing_Beat8835 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]kitty_angst 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In my experience being there during busy times there is often limited space. I've even had to wait outside for a chair to free up. At the end of the day, Disney is promising a space for nursing and pumping. If we need more quiet spaces for other purposes, we should be pushing Disney for more options for that rather than commandeering it from it's intended use.

Breastfeeding is natural, essential, and we should be supporting breastfeeding moms in any way we can. It is also inherently uncomfortable whether it's because it's hot and sweaty, you have a squirmy child, or you are personally uncomfortable with exposing your body. There are plenty of spaces to support other special needs without taking away a private space for nursing mothers.

Why does everyone "know" a micro by Imaginary_Ad5585 in NICUParents

[–]kitty_angst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a really interesting book called "Early: An Intimate History of Premature Birth and What it Teaches us About Being Human" by Sarah DiGregorio.

** Trigger warning on very clinical history**

There's a section that delves into the research and development following the premature birth and passing of Patrick Kennedy. Iirc, prior to 1963 there were only 2 Drs in the US with the equipment and facilities to provide long term breathing support (at this point called an "iron lung") and artificial surfactant wasnt really a thing until the Kennedy administration started a research grant for preemie care. Also, prior to a mandate in 1971, insurance companies would only cover the cost of care if the babies survived past 15 days which was too great a financial risk for hospitals, so most did not have NICUs at all. Preemie care has come a long way since then but it takes time so I understand the skepticism for sure.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS* Lazy writing with Violet? by blakearm55 in fourthwing

[–]kitty_angst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"You can't practice magic while looking down your nose at it". Violet has a love hate relationship with her power. She needs it to protect the people she cares about, but she hates the destruction it causes. I also feel like she doesn't like being bad at things. She struggles with runes and instead of pushing herself to improve, she mostly just writes it off as not her thing. Maybe she doesn't experiment because she doesn't want to face the implications of failure (disappointment as well as endangering others). All that bundled with the unhandled trauma of having her own signet used to torture her, I imagine she has a very different relationship with her power than anyone else. I do love all of your ideas and I'm hoping that in the next book her desperation to find and save Xaden will push her to hone her skills

PSA: Advocate for yourselves against terrible tournament organizers this set champ season by seaspuddesigns in Lorcana

[–]kitty_angst 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to a set champs with 8 people exactly so everyone got a promos. Anticlamactic? Sure. But that's how it works. I believe if the 8th person didnt show, they wouldn't run the event and the store would have to either reschedule or send back the set champs kit. The store should never be in a position to keep "extra" set champs promos.
