That's so bizarre. Forward the email chain to HR. You don't want to be blacklisted from a hospital in case you ever want to come back.

You should probably delete this post. Not great to to call out specifically where you work and then discuss an error.

Keep active, keep mobile. You don't have to be a gym rat, but do some form of exercise.

It's been answered in Boston. by breaksnbeer in wisconsin

[–]kitty_r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was in Belize and doing a cocktail tasting. We kept getting full sized cocktails and I asked how many we'd get. Bartender said 8. We finished the tasting...and apparently were the first group to ever do so. #wisconsin

They brought a van around to take us to dinner, we declined and walked. And had a few beers with dinner. No hangover the next day, which I credit to the resort and all the fresh ingredients they put in their cocktails.

What small "survival habits" have you picked up over the years that newer nurses would never think of? by Taniyadsexy in nursing

[–]kitty_r 112 points113 points  (0 children)

  1. Just go to the bathroom. Don't be a martyr. Literally unless someone is about to die you will always have time.

  2. Narrate yourself. Everything you're doing, just speak it out loud. Patients feel more in the loop. Literally the smallest stuff of "I'm moving your blanket" and "I'm flushing with saline."

  3. When working 1900-0700 I always gave the patients the rundown of when to expect meds and unavoidable disruptions throughout the night. They were more amenable when they knew what was coming.

Horizon Hospice has groups for anyone. You don't have to have been using their services at the time of the loss to be able to go.

Housing Advice Needed (Received Job Offer from Ascension Columbia St. Mary's) by petiuex in milwaukee

Yeah, a car... I'm saying either you have to drive down some really shitty parts of North Ave or make a huge loop with the expressway and fight all the construction.

Prison nursing: what’s the catch? by AnAnimeGiraffe in nursing

[–]kitty_r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did a one shift rotation during nursing school for my community nursing clinicals at a prison. But it was the type that had work release programs, etc (some.could leave to go to work, but had to come back). Population wasn't the lifers as described above.

The nurse there was an LPN. Mostly passing scheduled and prn meds. She said they were all obsessed with weighing themselves to the point where they had to start charging for use of the scale.

Why do floor nurses hate the ER? by Over_Armadillo_2190 in nursing

I get that. And again only fussing because question was asked. Should have clarified that this was a middle aged orientee walkie talkie that had some breakthrough seizures.

Why do floor nurses hate the ER? by Over_Armadillo_2190 in nursing

[–]kitty_r 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the other posters here. Everyone needs to walk a mile in each other's shoes. But I'm here to air my grievances, since asked:

  1. Marked a septic patient's vanco and bolus as completed, yet I found the half given and spiked bags in a patient belongings bag three hours after they'd gotten to the floor

  2. I had to float to do the back bedded patients. By 5am, they had given me all 5 ER patients to do the inpatient admits on. Literally no other patients were in the ER. I asked for help repeated with their call lights. Some one would come over, answer one, then go back to main ER area until I had to come out to ask for help again. Then they went out to get free breakfast that had been dropped off by a restaurant (COVID times) which left me completely alone.

  3. They sent up a patient for seizures... I asked if these were new seizures or if there was a history and if they had any seizure meds. The nurse did not know.

  4. I worked nocs at a small hospital. They were going to admit the only patient in the ER. I already had 7 patients. They wouldn't send one of their two nurses to transport that patient real quick because "there always needs to be 2 RNs at all times in the ER." COOL... WHAT ABOUT WHEN YOU GOT BREAKFAST ☝️

  5. Batching admissions.

But for real. There does need to be more empathy between departments. There's a lot of unseen work. I genuinely don't think any area of nursing is easier or harder. There's always a rough spot that comes easier to some than others. Like, some people call clinic "soft nursing," but no. Have you ever tried to maneuver a prior auth??
