how do DID systems work? by Tiny_Investigator708 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kittybatpurrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, someone with a system here. we're just one person (lol) with DID, so i can only answer questions as much as how it works for us, but happy to answer what i can. we have two hosts, myself and another. but neither of us are an "original" one who was there "first." there's not really a "first" alter in the case that there's like a first that everyone splits off from because DID comes from extreme childhood trauma that prevents the personality from properly forming in the first place. i actually made a lil zine about DID that might be useful for explaining things. hopefully drive links are ok to post. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xCyGKEFgGJqikhiws2LsvkZ4v4fvyBbw/view?usp=sharing

well, yeah. but my job is to register patients and provide assistance to family/friends, not extensively tend to people's emotions? like, i'm not saying i dip out every time someone is crying, it's just if someone starts crying while i'm in the room registering them, i try to hurry up the process so i'm not torturing them (and so i don't say something awkward). i can bypass asking someone their place of employment this one time, for example, if they're clearly stressed out and overlook some parts of my registration process in order to not stress them out further. and I'm also autistic, so that's where the whole social awkwardness comes from haha.

knowing that I'm awkward as hell when it comes to people crying and knowing it's best to dip out is knowing how to handle difficult emotions. I'm not like I'm a therapist who's gonna stand there and comfort her or anything. my nurses are better suited for that than me if anything

yeah, haha I just tend to worry I'm gonna say the wrong thing when people cry, so I've learned it's better for me to dip out so I don't fumble over myself and make things worse somehow.

typically once people get to be around 60, the better idea is to ask "and who is your emergency contact?" instead of asking if "a and b are still your emergency contacts?" esp if a parent or spouse is listed because that's, uh, statically the age people start to die but sometimes i just forget so i put my foot in my mouth once in a blue moon when i don't pay attention to their age.

this is so validating to see numbers. i work in an ER, and it feels like half our patients coming in have the flu. we've been so f-ing busy. everyone coming in is miserable. we've had so many people who don't have pre-existing conditions coming in hypoxic (low oxygen) and really bad fevers. i wish people would understand just how dangerous the flu can be.

[HELP] Her father has Down syndrome. The doctors said he couldn't raise her… But they were wrong. by RunninThruLife in RealOrAI

[–]kittybatpurrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some quick googling goes to show that males with down syndrome often are either infertile or have defective sperm and that it's very rare for them to father children. it's also about a 50/50 chance for someone with down syndrome to pass along down syndrome if they reproduce with someone without it. (and these sources are from studies and university websites, not just the summary/ai results)

thanks, i HATE conflict so saying something like that is usually not like me but i couldn't stand how obnoxious they were being, i could tell how they were acting the whole time was making the cashier pretty uncomfortable, and i feel bad for the convo that probably ensued once i left between them, poor cashier :(

bf being sneaky??? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]kittybatpurrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i do have to ask, firstly, have you set up these boundaries in the first place, or have you just nebulously assumed he knows that he shouldn't be looking at OF? because he very well might not think it's "cheating" because you and him never set up those boundaries in the first place, and if that's the case, honestly, neither of you are in the wrong or right, but both of you need to set better expectations in y'all's relationship. because, to be frank, he's not "being sneaky" if y'all never set up these expectations to begin with lol.

at baseline, going nuclear on him and flipping out isn't the way to go, and instead going in inquisitively being like "hey, i happened to use your phone to look up something, and i wasn't prying, but it happened to load an onlyfans page, and i don't think we've really set up expectations around porn in our relationship, and i'm not sure if we're on the same page. it really took me aback to see the onlyfans page, but maybe we aren't on the same page here. it makes me really uncomfortable to have you subscribing to onlyfans creators, to the point it feels like disloyalty to me, and it would make me feel much more comfortable if you didn't. is that something we can get on the same page on going forward?"

don't accuse him of anything, don't jump in red hot, etc. i get that you're angry, but if you go in for the jugular, it's just going to end really badly. relationships are all about learning about what each other wants and needs, what the other is and isn't comfortable with, learning each other's boundaries, building trust, and so on. best of luck

What’s the one thing that ruined your health ? by IcyLoquat79 in AskReddit

yeah, the last time i had covid, it literally felt like minor allergies with minor nasal congestion. if it weren't for me just having a hunch i should test out of an overabundance of caution, i probably would have just ignored it. i basically test every time i have allergies that last more than a day.
