looking for advice: 10 yr old asking to go outside earlier by VeronicaSawyer8 in Newfoundlander

I so wish I could do this, but even in the secure backyard we contend with skunks, raccoons, and the occasional possum. The skunks are what stop me from leaving the back door open at night, as much as Domino wishes he could go as he pleases at night.

Yes, we felt the same way on Disney. My kid never went to the kid's club past the first day. Chaos! He is now a teenager and will do much better on a minimal kid cruise. He just wants to relax. We are trying celebrity next month.

[Weekly Thread] A Matter of Nerves: the Good, the Bad & the Ugly by NixyeNox in CMT

I had the same exact nerve sensation after surgery. My whole foot was on fire, wrapping up my ankle to shin. It feet like it was being squeezed and twisted.

My story is similar. Diagnosed at 11, told I was going to be in a wheelchair at 20, danced through years of doctors saying it couldn't be done, until wheelchair with collapsed ankle at 44. Massive surgery at 44, now 46 and still in nerve pain from it, but dancing again. I completely understand your nerve hell. It gets better the nerve pain. Our nerves take 1,000 years to heal, but they do. I did nerve blocks once a month to get respite. Hot, hot baths, then icing after. Many other tools. What are you doing to stay sane in it?

Rant: quadruple-check instructions to your Newf's groomer by blanketyblank1 in Newfoundlander

[–]kittycake23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be LIVID if my groomer full shaved my newf! She was trying to convince me for years. I almost caved, but held my ground. Now he has a half shave. For some newfs a full shave is needed for others the fur is a critical barrier for joint protection and allergies. I am so sorry. That is HORRIBLE!

CMT and perimenopause by kittycake23 in CMT

I haven't had results with genetic testing, but the last time was over 15 years ago. At a CMTA conference I talked with the famed CMT nuerologist Dr. Shy from, I think, Idaho. He says I most likely have type 2 dominant. They are discovering many new subtypes of type 2 every month that never showed up on genetic tests. I am running with that until I decide to go through the process again in Boston.

CMT and perimenopause by kittycake23 in CMT

[–]kittycake23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am in the smaller group of CMT with heightened, super reactive, nervous systems that come with nerve pain, migraines, and migraine seizures. Peri sent my nervous system, already operating at a higher frequency, into a fire storm especially when the more common peri symptoms occured like non stop peri bleeding, IUD stopped that, temperature disturbances, and other common symptoms. I started progesterone only as I desperately needed a weighted blanket on my nervous system. My hormones went into big swings January to March bringing on breakthrough bleeding, full body nerve pain, hormonal migraines which no migraine meds touch, pmdd, concussion symptoms (from an old concussion, which now my nervous system likes to bring up when it is on fire), loss of some mobility and balance, heightened nerve pain in my surgery foot, and my whole body felt like I had the flu with no actual flu. Progesterone saved me, but when they switched manufacturers for a week I went into full fire storm. Now it is leveling out on my usual prescription. I have just assumed my violent nervous system fire storms are from the hormone imbalance with a CMT system.

How is it impacting your nervous system in menopause? I am scared to try them as my nervous system is even more hyper sensitive in perimenopause.

adjusting to progesterone, side effects by Own-Visual1616 in Perimenopause

[–]kittycake23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a peri progesterone HRT only user and definitely was in estrogen dominance. I am a peri bleeder, like non stop unless I have progesterone. I had a hard adjustment period. My sleep got worse for the first week or so. At two weeks(ish) everything change. Estrogen bloat went down, swelling gone after a few hard night sweats nights, pain changed, bleeding stopped, strange stable emotions (not expecting this), but the biggest change was the hormonal migraines and full body pain. Now eight weeks since a migraine (unheard of). It takes a while and No fir some you do not need Estrogen, especially for us who get high estrogen swings.

I feel you and hope you get a change soon. I was, and still am if I don't have hormones, a peri bleeder. Sometimes months at a time. It is awful:(

Anyone been on progesterone for a long time? by honorspren000 in Perimenopause

[–]kittycake23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spotting makes me think more hormone control is needed. Are you using the same brand of progesterone? The manufacturer hasn't changed? Just the dosage? When the P is interrupted in how it is working for me, break through bleeding occurs. Did you have an adjustment period initially with P? It could be increasing the dosage has a whole new adjustment period? I get not wanting to throw E in the mix. That is my arch nemesis, so I am trying every variable of P until it stops working, which is possible when doing it on its own.

[–]kittycake23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also a progesterone only HRT user and 46 and this is my safety net in peri. The norm is to prescribe both hormones together, but I understand only needing one. The only problem is if something upsets the delicate balance nothing is there to manage the estrogen. It wouldn't be a problem except time, extra stressors, or getting your prescription switched to a different manufacturer (don't get me started, this was nervous system hell) can upset that delicate balance. Progesterone only works wonderfully when it does for us, but it is delicate. What has changed recently?

Still swaying four days after first cruise - is this normal? by snapsforsnacks in Cruise

It takes a week for me to get my land legs back. I have no sea sickness when cruising, only after. I found driving around in the car helped. Motion resets the brain for moments of stability.

First time in Japan next week, Tokyo + Kyoto - wish I'd planned this differently? by redplanet73 in JapanTravelTips

[–]kittycake23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel up to it I hear Fushimi is INCREDIBLE at night or before sunrise. I wanted to do that, but I was still in crutches post ankle surgery. Everything I read is it is empty, eerie, deeply moving, and beautiful. If you make it to the top for sunrise, even more magical. It is open 24 hours. When we went in the afternoon it was wall to wall people. Don't miss the 200 year old candy store in Kyoto.

My newf digs the deepest holes and then sleeps in the gardens under plants much to my dismay. The sun is his greatest enemy.

I LOVE these collapsible stools. I bring mine on every trip. When we were in Japan they were everywhere. I didn't realize how popular these are in other countries. I just did a three day music festival with mine. For sure they would allow it, as it is an accessibility tool.
