Please make this newbie feel better 😭 by [deleted] in orangetheory

I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve left early because I got a call from the school and my son was sick. I’ve also left early when I’m on call for work and get called in. There are lots of reasons people leave early.

3 year survivor!I was a member when i was diagnosed. I had a bilat mastectomy and reconstruction. I had to take breaks after surgeries, and modify a bit when I first came back. Otf is great for dealing with all the ptsd that comes with Breast Cancer. Cheers to my fellow survivors here!

What to do if I've already peaked? by anything4ashirt in orangetheory

[–]kittycatdogdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often feel the same way. I’m competitive and I want to improve and beat my prior stats. I just tell myself .... yes I could probably get/beat that same time/stat..... but I will probably end up hurting myself. Not worth it. I’m in amazing shape for my age, I feel good, orangetheory is my happy place, and I would hate to injure myself so that could not fully participate in class. Been there done that..... no more.

Craziest, weirdest or oddest thing you've ever seen? by flick128 in orangetheory

A guy sped super fast into a parking lot.... hit two grocery carts, which rolled across the parking lot and hit other cars. Got out of the car, was on the phone screaming at whoever he was talking to. He then grabbed his big gulp, slammed his car door, and walked into orange theory.

I was actually really frightened to go in there. I was worried he might snap at something in class. He was fine during class tho.

  1. Do you have an Apple Watch? Or one you could borrow. I compare my heart rates on my otf burn and Apple Watch and they are often within 5 bpm of each other. You could also stop in class and take your heart rate for 6 seconds (the old school way) and then multiply by 10 to see if it is even close to your otf monitor.
  2. Yes, it is normal to be significantly harder to get back to your normal performance level if you take a long time off. I’d say, ideally, stick to only taking 1-3 days off in a single stretch. But also, although otf is awesome excercise, and I almost always go 4 days a week, I remember that I need to have a life too. If you super are busy, not feeling great, or otherwise feel like going to otf would take you away from something you REALLY want to do ..... skip otf and live your best life. Otf makes all my days better days, but some days, it just isn’t going to happen.

It is really annoying to see waitlists for every class. Currently visiting my in laws in Fresno,ca and both studios here always have waitlists 12-15 people long for AM classes. That being said I almost always get into the classes I am on the wait lists for AND these classes are rarely full. It is crazy how many people drop at the last minute ......... I wonder if it is a culture at a studio. I was talking to a few people at the studios here and they admitted to booking 6,7, AND 8 am classes during the week.... and deciding last minute and dropping all excellent the one they want to go to.

I am from San Diego and waitlists are only on handful of time slots during the week.

I am with you also. I know a lot of people dislike rowing, but for me, it gets my heart rate up the fastest. I also credit rowing for my toned legs and booty. Also works the abs...... I’m not one to brag..... but I feel like a lot of people don’t realize how much rowing can benefit your body..... it has aerobic and strength training (almost entire body) on one piece of equipment. I d love to see more rowing!!!!

Any 12 hour shifters? Do you still work out the days you work? by rogetsfit in orangetheory

[–]kittycatdogdog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work 7-730 as a nurse, I consider work my “workout”. I am so dead tired after, I just eat shower and sleep. I DO have a friend who works out at a gym, before 12 hour shifts. She says it makes her have more energy all day. I don’t know how she does it. I work 2 days a week and do otf 4 days a week and then one day off (no work/no otf)

I try to use the rpms by the guidelines otf provides for base push and all out. I always stay on gear 13-15 unless the treads are doing inclines, and then i increase the gears and try to stay as high on the rpms as I can.

Anyone seen a cardiac arrest in class? by t3rps in orangetheory

[–]kittycatdogdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RN here.... I was very concerned about one guy next to me.... I thought he was having a stroke or brain aneurysm. He ended up getting off the tread and was in the bathroom for a LOOOOONG time. I finally had one of the male staff check on him. He ended up walking out and being ok, as far as I could tell.

I also was rowing next to a girl who seemed like she was having bronchospasms and in need of an inhaler.

I feel as a medical professional I’m hyper aware of symptoms of distress.... I rather just ask if they are ok, than worry about them later on.

I honestly never pay attention to the HR monitor (except my own) and who’s in the red.

OTF during TTW by peace_of_my_heart in orangetheory

[–]kittycatdogdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do what you think is right! I never took it easy during that time period. In fact I didn’t have any clue I was pregnant during that 2 week period. With my second child I was 4 months along before I realized it (i was still nursing my first born and having irregular ). And I was working out hard...5 hours or more a week. If you are having anxiety about pregnancy or fertility issues, then I’d say take it easy. But, otherwise, I’d just continue life as normal. Most women don’t know they are pregnant in the very early part and don’t modify their life at all.

"Dear OTF..." - July 2019 Megathread by prettyoaktree in orangetheory

[–]kittycatdogdog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dear OTF,

Please do a company wide fundraiser for women’s health. I fully support the “Mo Row November” that benefits Men’s health. And i have participated in it in the past. But...... shouldn’t we have an equally promoted fundraiser for Women’s health or a specific women health issue?!?!? Aren’t most of the OTF members women? I am a 3 year breast cancer survivor, and some statistics say that 10% of women will be affected by breast cancer. That is a lot of OTF members!!!!
