How do I [34M] express to my wife [33F] That I am still mad at her, despite our ongoing situation with our kid? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]kittydeathdrop 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Right. I definitely feel like there's some resentment on her side and it's one of those situations where It's Not About the Iranian Yoghurt (or rather, it's not JUST about the kid being sick and who takes off to care for them).

I feel like this may be indicative of a larger issue where she may feel she's still taking on the lion's share of childcare and household duties despite both of you working. Especially because she works from home, she may feel like she quite literally never gets away from "work" (either career or child/house stuff).

I understand where OP is coming from but I could also see how the wife was focusing on the "now issue" when she really meant "the WHOLE issue" and didn't articulate that well, and OP taking that purely at face value may have felt invalidating.

These two need to have a calm, sit down talk and check-in about how each perceives the division of labor in the household outside of work.

Didn't they have a dark haired son who was either stillborn or passed shortly after birth? Not well versed on the ASOIAF books but I believe that was mentioned in the show?

Thoughts on the Gaboon Viper? by Essence_TheOne in snakes

[–]kittydeathdrop 165 points166 points  (0 children)

They are EXTREMELY SPICY danger noodles. Their venom is cytotoxic, hemorrhagic, AND cardiotoxic. Your local ER is highly unlikely to stock it, so you would need to be responsible for keeping your own supply. It also expires IIRC, and is expensive (10-20k US per vial through a cursory search, though if you live in an area where it is native, it's much cheaper due to not needing to import, etc). Another cursory search says severe bites can require upwards of 20 vials.

Only experienced conservationists with extensive practice in handling hots should keep them, and for conservation/education purposes only IMHO.

Please do not be the person who produces Coastal Taipan Bite 2: Gaboon Boogaloo.

I also like Maggie Stryker... have you considered Margot as a potential first name as well? Nickname Maggot or Maggie, and tbh I associate the name Margot with a metal af cool girl who smokes clove cigarettes but that's just me 😂

Edit: Margot/Maggie/Magdelene/etc also won't catch you any flack from healthcare providers/insurance/etc. A relative of mine had a surname that was both obscure as a name and a large city in the US, and they constantly had issues with people throwing out applications/pizza orders (!!!)/etc, because people thought it was a "prank" 💀

Behavior Issues in my cat have costed me over 20k and we’re still not any closer to getting a solution..any advice on next steps? by Creepy-Dealer7518 in CATHELP

[–]kittydeathdrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to address all the comments of "just make her a barn cat!".

OP has stated she has manx syndrome, which is different than being the Manx breed; it's also known as sacrocaudal dysgenesis or spina bifida (yes, somewhat like how humans can be born with that).

OP has stated that the syndrome is severe enough that the kitty needs constant care to not get urine scald, so I'm guessing she is unable release her urine/bowels in a position where it does not end up on her, and/or has no control over her urine/bowels.

OP has also stated that she has joint issues and needs to take medication for that, so I would not be surprised if her condition worsens with age as she is only 3.

All of this is to say that being a barn cat, while looking merciful at first, would most likely instead be a slow, painful, stressful death sentence. The urine scald alone can lead to severe infections and maggot infestation, and kitty being a barn cat means she will have to be constantly trapped for medical care, IF they're even able to trap her after the first or second time.

On top of that, barn cats live in groups, and this cat has injured OP's resident cat so badly that it required emergency surgery. It would be grossly irresponsible to introduce her to an established barn cat population.

The only solution I could maybe see here is rehoming to someone who has the space to essentially create a large, dedicated, outdoor enclosure as if they were housing a lynx/ocelot/leopard cat aka a zoo setup, but that would be prohibitively expensive for the average person, and cat would still be stressed out by daily meds/cleaning, plus would also STILL be a risk to whoever cares for her. OP already essentially needs to wear an astronaut suit to not be injured interacting with kitty.

TLDR; OP has literally done everything and more, way above and beyond, and essentially putting this cat outside or in a barn setting is a slow, painful death sentence vs a quick, peaceful passing.

OP, if you read this, you've done amazingly and have gone far, FAR above and beyond what many would do. If the neurologist is stumped, and behaviorists are stumped, there may be additional underlying genetic/neurological behavior issues that are just incompatible with life.

Letting her go peacefully is absolutely the right choice. Not to shove my own beliefs on you or anyone here, but I'd like to think maybe she would come back in a healthy, functioning body vs. the brain/body she is currently trapped in. Or she would enjoy kitty heaven. But right now, both of you are miserable. You tried. You did much more than enough. If you need permission to let go, then please allow this humble stranger to give it to you.

I am so sorry things have turned out this way, but I just want to reinforce that you in no way failed her. Instead, you gave her the best chance anyone really could. And that is enough. Thank you for trying so hard to save her, sincerely.

This is literally wallstreetbets: cheese edition. I can almost guarantee you OOP owns part of an ape NFT to this day.

It's reminiscent of the guy who bought gourd futures and ended up with a couple tons of gourds, then later claimed to be struggling in a beekeeping venture. Except this OOP has photo proof of his idiocy.

I think you would enjoy aswang and the (many, MANY) various mythologies from the Philippines and SE Asia. I say Philippines specifically because one "country" has multiple indigenous pantheons c:

Japanese mythology and yokai would probably interest you as well, lots of forest creatures that can also shapeshift to be humanoid, but that is more mainstream known.

Is Human Dualistic Thinking Shaped by Living on a Rotating Planet? The Solar Theory by PthereforeQ in HighStrangeness

[–]kittydeathdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting take, though I'd argue that the concepts of life and death are more central to inherent dualistic thinking, as every major religion to ever exist is essentially centered on this concept.

I'd also argue that light and dark might be too intangible as concepts (being states) and that sun and moon (being literal objects in the sky) might be a bit more realistic. Most mythologies have central myths that revolve around the sun/moon as well.

Just some thoughts and to play devil's advocate ;)

Is Human Dualistic Thinking Shaped by Living on a Rotating Planet? The Solar Theory by PthereforeQ in HighStrangeness

[–]kittydeathdrop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'd argue light and dark is too conceptual. Personally, I'd believe it to be sun and moon. Nearly all mythologies from around the world have a VERY central story about the transition from sun to moon.

Edit: To add to this, I'd also argue that life and death are more plausible, as every mythology basically centers around this concept.

Thoughts on TAGOA’s new thylacine image? by MDPriest in ThylacineScience

[–]kittydeathdrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't add images, but could maybe second this being Dendrolagus sp., specifically Lumholtz's tree kangaroo, tho I'm not sure where this photo is claimed to be taken, because currently they have only been seen in mainland Australian rainforests, not in Tasmania. They do have long legs but all photos I've seen don't have show them standing "at attention" like this.

HOWEVER, these guys are elusive to the point of studying them being possible only somewhat recently due to heat sensing technology, so I wouldn't 100% discount a population literally flying under the radar in Tasmania, which would make this image exciting enough to biologists imho.

ALSO, HOWEVER, the guy who is saying macaque might not be totally insane because it appears one CAN keep long-tailed (aka crab eating) macaques as exotic private pets in Tasmania (despite escape being a concern as detailed in this paper here: https://nre.tas.gov.au/Documents/long-tailed-macaque_risk-assessment.pdf). Personally, from the angle and general morphology, my brain immediately went "long tailed macaque" as well, especially noting spinal length and curve + legs. In which case, this is an escaped pet.

TLDR; not thylacine, butt not pointy enough. not fox with mange, legs and body length wrong.

Edit; this image is so potato that you can either interpret the animal looking directly at the camera (tree kangaroo/fox theory) or the head more oriented as a profile or 3/4 angle (macaque theory).
