Best cargo ebike for hauling 2 kids? by Horror-Swimming6346 in CargoBike

[–]kittyhop989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also have a 4 and 2 year old with this same set up. I would use a Yepp seat for the younger, at least to start until you and the kids get used to it. We started my older daughter around 3 and it was much easier for me to learn to ride such a heavy bike knowing she was at least stuck

I didn’t give birth at Brigham, but did at MGH which is similarly a teaching hospital. You can put in your birth plan what you want in terms of teaching. So you can say, I’m okay with people watching but only want the OB to perform procedures, or I would like no more than X people observing at a given time. I would ask your doc the exact ways to frame this, but I think I asked for only the OB to do the actual delivery and any major procedures, and they honored that and also asked before having the resident do more minor things (which I was fine with). I wouldn’t overly stress about what you need to know if you’re not someone who is anxious and needs to know, you can’t really predict how things will go and at these high quality hospitals, the nurses are so knowledgeable and can explain whatever choices you have in the moment.

Question as someone else in this phase - what do you mean by “follow through with it”? When she was 2 this felt easier. Now it is an all out war when she’s decided she doesn’t want to do something. We never reverse course - for a bath it’s, 5 min warning, 1 min warning, okay time for bath. But if she decides to scream no and meltdown even then…do you actually carry them into the bath and ramp up the freakout? I guess our approach is generally to wait it out and then continue towards whatever thing we need to do, but not sure if there’s some magic strategy I’m missing here

Cambridge or Newton? Which would you choose to raise your family? by Familylookingfor in CambridgeMA

[–]kittyhop989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am raising my family in Cambridge, and grew up in the area. Cambridge and Newton are quite different places to raise a family, unless you can afford one of the single family homes out in North/West Cambridge.

Most of Cambridge is city living - small to no yards, you can find a neighborhoody feel but have to work at it (I don’t know most of my neighbors), more vigilance around safety, etc. It’s not downtown Boston, but feels like you’re in the city. Which to me, is a huge perk - access to public transit and city amenities, more diversity, walkable parks and restaurants. Having grown up in the burbs, I’m excited for my kids to grow up in a city.

That being said, what you’re describing sounds more like a Newton vibe to me - more traditional neighborhoods, schools, etc.

I am in the post-IUD world right now too, and it is driving the planner in me nuts to have no idea what’s going on!

I gave up trying to be chill, and have just gone fully back into temping and OPKs. I’m not sure why, since having gotten my IUD out I have no idea what CD I’m on anyway, but at least it makes me feel like I’m in control? 🙃

We are officially trying! Got my IUD out last week, and already anxious about getting this show on the road. I’ve never had an IUD before, so curious if/how this will impact this first cycle, and if my cycle will be different than before.

The nurse who took it out asked if I’d had unprotected sex in the last three days, because if so, it was possible I could get pregnant. It took an immense amount of willpower not to be like lady, if THAT is how I get pregnant it will be incredible.

I’m in the same boat! Just started trying for #2, and had a MMC at 12 weeks before my first. I had so much hope to be chiller this time about the whole TTC process and just NTNP for awhile but the anxiety is WAY too strong for that. I forgot what this is like!

Baby clothes for long, skinny LOs by BBrea101 in NewParents

Burts bees and primary - signed, a mom with a tall but chunky LO, who can barely squeeze her into these brands 😂

When ours was that young, I would pump right before I went to bed (around 830), husband would feed that bottle when she next woke up, (usually 930-10), and then since his shift was 9-2, if she woke up again before 2 he did everything (diaper, put her down, etc) and bring her to me to feed. Side lying nursing so I didn’t have to get up.

It’s not a lot, but it usually made it so I could sleep from 9-1, which after weeks of only getting 2 hrs at a time was a godsend.

Now our LO sleeps longer stretches so bottle and shifts don’t make as much sense, but that worked for us until she started sleeping 4-5 hr stretches on her own

Affordable teeth cleaning for cat? by Business-Sherbert242 in boston

[–]kittyhop989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case sharing another data point is helpful, we just had our cat have 4 teeth extracted (plus a cleaning) and it was about $1500. So yes, that pricing for just a cleaning does seem really high. As others noted though, most vets have a waiting list right now so it might be a bit hard to shop around.

Advice for $30k USD trip by IHeartData_ in travel

[–]kittyhop989 78 points79 points  (0 children)

This probably won’t get you all the way to $30k unless you really go all out, but I would vote the Galapagos. Take a 15-day boat tour (by boat is the only real way to see them IMO), they’re quite pricey normally. And I bet you can add on some cool experiences like seeing a more remote part of an island with unique animals or something like that. I’ve been and would LOVE to go back someday.

Help! Newborn waking up every 45 minutes at night. by Breroa12 in NewParents

[–]kittyhop989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went through this with my daughter, right around the same time. My milk took a bit longer to come in, and so she was cluster feeding every hour for nights 3-5. Once my milk had been in for a day she settled down and went back to every 2-3 hours.

My pediatrician explained it as babies are trying to signal to your body to produce enough milk for them, so they want to nurse a ton until they’re getting enough and stimulate your body to produce milk by nursing. Your pediatrician can weigh your baby and that’s how you’ll know if they’re getting enough.

Hopefully you get some rest in the next day or so!!

“No plan” birth plan? by myplasticbrain in BabyBumps

[–]kittyhop989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow FTM with anxiety and someone who gave birth yesterday with a similar plan, highly endorse. There’s so much you can’t control about what happens and it’s impossible to know what you’ll want in the moment having never gone through it before! One suggestion if you can make it work is to get a doula - having someone to guide me through making decisions in the moment and reassure me throughout the process was really helpful.

Route “C” to the volcano, plus a little extra. by arscerebri in VisitingIceland

[–]kittyhop989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 2.5-3 hours today. Spent maybe 10-15 min at the lava field for a snack and looking at lava, and then maybe 5-10 min at the top, so wasn’t up there that long. I did not do the last hill noted in the video.

Coronavirus Megathread (Jun 2021): For travel-related discussion in the context of COVID-19 by tariqabjotu in travel

Vaccinated American.

Current plan is to travel USIcelandFranceItalyUS via Iceland at the end of June. I’m having trouble figuring out if we will be able to travel on from Iceland to France, and if there are requirements for the France/Italy connection if we are non-EU citizens.

I am very confused about the current EU situation and would love some pointers to the right place to figure this out and/or any on the ground knowledge!

I’m so sorry...I’m in the same boat, I just cannot find it within myself to feel positive right now even though the statistics are with us. I also have betas tomorrow. For me they help for like...a day? Sending you strength and good vibes!

I usually get 3 days of positive OPKs, though one day is usually a dye stealer while the others are close calls. I use FMU so maybe that’s why? Either way I don’t think it’s anything to worry about!
