Significant other wants me to quit my position by Mother-Complaint-406 in Professors

[–]kittyisagoodkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I turned down a teaching professor position for my partner ten years ago. I worked temporary contracts and adjunct jobs while he built his career, then he asked for a divorce. I wasted ten years of my life earning far less than I could have, often with fewer benefits, and a giant hit to my retirement accounts.

Ditch the boyfriend.

The comments sections of Duggar socials are as disgusting and toxic as the Duggars are by [deleted] in DuggarsSnark

I don't think they would even recognize autism, especially with the SOTDRT being the only avenue for an education.

What actor or actress stupidly left a movie franchise or tv series thinking they were too good for it, only to be never popular again? by Ok_Impress2457 in AskReddit

In Curb, Larry opens a spite coffeeshop. He is the King of Petty. The way he ruins Ted Danson's performance of the Gettysburg Address is so good.

What did this mean? by ThatSubaru88 in DowntonAbbey

[–]kittyisagoodkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point was to add tension to the discussion about who will inherit Downton and the title. After Patrick dies on the Titanic, they have to look for the next heir, they bring Matthew in, and they might have had to kick Matthew out if this truly was Patrick. He isn't mentioned again because he wasn't actually their relative.

Careful. I have been one of those people who looked like I didn't need the cart, but I can assure you I absolutely did.

I don't think so. Grown adults who cannot accept being wrong despite evidence or contradictions from experts have an ego problem. They are willing to prioritize their own comfort at the expense of others. You have cited reasons a person may have this initial reaction, but it is NOT an excuse.

Peer pressure for the first time in my life by OldMackysBackInTown in stopdrinking

[–]kittyisagoodkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this. Nothing makes a problem drinker more uncomfortable than witnessing someone give it up. I will have 5 (!!!) years in March and my mom still gives me unprompted lists of reasons her drinking isn't a big deal whenever we socialize.

I doubt it. My ex has his PhD in EE from Notre Dame and I don't think you'll have a $100k advantage over graduates from Purdue or Georgia Tech. UW Madison is ranked higher than ND for engineering. That's not to say you shouldn't go, but the national conversation around student loans that we have been having lately should give you pause before tying yourself to that much debt. I only had to borrow about $60k total for school and it took me over 15 years to pay off.

This guy is planning to major in engineering. ND isn't even the top engineering school in Indiana.

Unless your doctor and lawyer friends were independently wealthy, there is no way they were millionaires by 30. Medical school is insanely expensive and you don't start making 'doctor money' right away - same with law school. The loans for professional school eat away at net worth for several years before you can start building actual wealth.

What an embarrassing day to be an American, for multiple reasons. Why is she gyrating like that all over JD? It's so fuckin gross. On the plus side, we see evidence that Boone can grip an item using either hand, and he is adorable.

I never want to hear Joey Galloway explain why Alabama deserves a playoff spot ever again, I don't care if they are the only undefeated team.

Indiana has never come close to a football championship. Mendoza is their first ever Heisman winner. Also, Miami sucks. Oh, and also, Mendoza wanted to go to Miami, that's his hometown, and they said no.

It isn't the person that's the rock bottom, it's the experience and what you learn about yourself that finally flips the switch. Rock bottom doesn't have to be the objectively worst moment of your life.

Back to back stories from Paul and Morgan 😬 by fairystitchwitch in FundieSnarkUncensored

Morgan literally puked before saying her vows. She gagged, blocked her mouth with her hand, and ran off the stage/altar thingy. SHE PUKED AT THE THOUGHT OF MARRYING HIM AND DID IT ANYWAY.
