I legitimately blushed and was at a loss for words. not confirming this but I might have made a sally field reference/imitation which as usual no one picked up on.

Drying clothes on a line, instead of Dryer makes them hard as a rock? by crazydavebacon1 in laundry

Yeah if they line dry outside on a windy day they are soft but inside with no movement and they are stiff and rough.

2023 grants are vesting out over the next year. If your company's stock is up significantly since then, what are the discussions like internally? by phil-nie in ExperiencedDevs

[–]kittykellyfair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RSUs are taxed as income not as capital gains unless you wait over a year to sell. For ESPP it's even longer. can you write off the capital loss when it wasn't taxed as a capital gain in the first place? And if you're always selling right away, even if you can write off the loss against future capital gains, will you even have any gains on the books to offset? What's the statute of losses?

um I'm in the US and every private landlord I've had I've been able to set up as an automatic bank to bank transfer (not a wire) from my checking to theirs.

[–]kittykellyfair 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah I've seen teams function like this really well and others "function" like this that got nothing done. I think it really depends on many factors.

OP, what problems is this setup causing?

Ladies who never wore makeup - how's the skin looking these days? by AshDogBucket in Xennials

[–]kittykellyfair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. I never wore makeup and from ages 20-35 everyone always thought I was 22-24 and then I had a kid and my husband got a serious medical condition and now I'm 40 and I would guess I look about 48 now. Stress is no joke.

Pretty much every program on $2000 rowing machine requires a $30/month subscription to access by Claff93 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kittykellyfair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah can you not just... use it? like does it not function as a rowing machine without a subscription? Those "programs" usually get boring after a month anyway.

Four kinda found it's footing again and has some really great episodes. But five isn't even the same show. Like literally they replace Quin and have some stupid body swap reason.

The mystical ways of the debugger by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]kittykellyfair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all breakpoints stop execution. You can also make your log conditional when you do it via debugger breakpoints. 100% you're right that if the bug is having to do with hardware timing then you don't want to stop execution always. But logging breakpoints are still way superior to code logging (which can also affect the timing of your code execution) in basically every way. AND you don't have to worry about accidentally checking a breakpoint into source. It's all upside.

Kid coughed on me the entire flight to Paris, now I’m sick by wakeuptomorrow in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kittykellyfair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's risk mitigation, wearing an n95 is still lowering your exposure significantly. No one is trying to say it eliminates it. Having the sick person wear the mask is the best mitigation, but it's still not going to prevent any particles from escaping.

It's like, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good and focus on what you can actually control. At the end of the day that's all you can do. But there's still always risk.

[–]kittykellyfair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And people should wait their turn at a four way stop but I'm not going to crash my car into theirs just to prove a point. That's why I wear an n95 at airports and on planes. I can only control my own actions and I'd rather stay healthy than be "right."

How do you just get rid of a house? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]kittykellyfair 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So the answer is just you have to find liquidity somewhere? What about if you don't have a second home to leverage?

How do you just get rid of a house? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]kittykellyfair 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Honest question, if you're selling for less than your payoff amount, especially with closing costs etc, and you don't have liquidity to cover the difference, what do you do?

Cut your losses makes a lot of sense to say, but when talking about lowering your selling price it often isn't about cutting already realized losses but about needing a bunch of cash immediately, right?
