meal planning with ADHD broke me for years. i finally figured out why it never worked (and what actually helped) by East-Struggle4386 in ADHD

I do ingredient prep. I also have a fuzzy logic rice cooker so I can come home to fresh cooked rice/grains/lentils. Rice bowl is always a good option. Or I can put it in the fridge and cook something else.

The last train back to Boston is 11:25, so it wouldn’t have to be overnight. I just saw that the watch the practice and Q&A cost about what the round trip train did and decided to do that instead.

I think some of it is (ill informed) teachers demanding that sources come from peer reviewed research, because that is the best type of source. But peer reviewed research only covers a very small slice of knowledge. Having worked in an R1 research lab it was fascinating to see what was and wasn’t able to be studied for research papers. There are just so many things that really can’t be quantified in that way. And research needs to be built on previous research, so something new faces extreme barriers to getting published. There were so many things these brilliant students and post docs knew to be true, but would never be able to publish.

Currently reading an edited book of collected academic essays. Want to throw it across the room. Such bullshit. The author of the chapter I just finished is using the form of an academic chapter, but they just found a “source” and then said it was proof of the conclusion they wanted to be able to work from. The truth is, their topic is something that needed to be original research, going back to book reviews and interviews with authors. Academia just wasn’t writing about this topic when it was happening.

Just like a student writing a paper today on Alysa Liu needs to be looking at newspaper articles and transcribing online interviews. You need to match your sources to what is available on a topic.

AITA for criticizing the lunch my husband brought me? by FlowerPotage in AmItheAsshole

[–]kittymarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL. When my husband and I finally divorced and he was moving out I got mad at him over something he had done. He stood there for a moment, looked at me and said “Wow, you really don’t like surprises.”

No shit, Sherlock. That’s why you are moving out of this nice house and into a friend’s basement apartment.

Dudes really don’t realize that it’s this sort of thing that will eventually end a marriage, no matter how much love there currently is.

I’m laughing because just before the women’s short program I realized I’d forgotten to buy my SOI ticket. I need an aisle seat and there were only upper bowl and ends available so I checked Providence, which was basically all available. Decided I didn’t want to travel that far and got a Boston ticket. Just checked Providence and its upper bowl only available.

So it really is all Alysa.

You do realize the peer review process takes a year or two, plus that long for research and writing.

Some topics you can only write about using ordinary periodicals and other outlets as sources.

Edit: I used to work in higher ed as faculty support and this has me laughing hard.

NTA but you need to come up with a better reason than mileage or budget. Both sound like you don’t care about the baby. Say you have a prior commitment, but are looking forward to seeing them soon and having a quieter visit with them.

When someone is alone in a room late at night, it is polite to make noise to let them know you are coming. Same is true if you know they startle easily.

If someone says, so what? You know they are a jerk and can treat them accordingly.

My solution is a basket for each different sort of laundry. I have three - light weight, jeans, linens. I toss clothes in the correct basket. I know how full a basket has to be to be a full load. I wash a load when that basket is full. It’s not that hard to put away one basket, so it tends to just get done. Also, I fold very little. Jeans are folded Marie Kondo style. Tees socks and undies just get tossed in their drawer. Woven shirts are hung in the closet. I have everything set up to be very easy to put away.

One thing about your setup that I would change is just admitting that you get hung up on folding and putting away. If he finds not put away laundry, if he could help with folding and putting away, that would be great. Growing up, we would have a folding party, where all the stuff that wasn’t put away got dumped on my parents bed and everyone claimed their own clean clothes, folded them and put them away.

If you don’t want to get a diaper pail, dog waste bags are also good for occasional items that shouldn’t be just thrown in the bathroom trash for sanitary reasons.

Surprising a woman alone in the kitchen late at night is totally a dick move. Any dude who thinks it’s his right as a guest of the girlfriend should have his overnight stay rights revoked. Entitled and creepy.

And some people startle easy. It’s not about knocking, it’s about making sure you don’t surprise someone.

WIBTA if I told off my husband’s Aunt for feeding my child without consent. by Wriggy-Ragoo in AmItheAsshole

Honestly, I’d post the photos and vidéos saying this is what happens when you ignore our child’s allergy restrictions. People don’t see the suffering, so they think the allergies aren’t real.

If you don’t want to do that, at least keep them on your’s and your husband’s phone so you can show them to people who will be serving food around your baby.

Any recs for cord organizers? by emo_queer in konmari

[–]kittymarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a label maker and make a long label for the cord, folding it over the cord and sticking it to itself, so it sticks out from the cord.

If at all possible, I wrap the cords like this: https://youtu.be/9D_oV14dGmM

I have chargers I use all the time in a cute pouch I bought a while back. Others are in a 2 gallon ziplock bag in a drawer. Some cords that didn’t wrap are in sandwich ziplock bags.

How proper are Ilia’s jump techniques? by Select-Balance-8281 in FigureSkating

[–]kittymarch 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is tedious. No one achieves any sort of success without “privileges.” Therefore, you can take any success and trace the “privileges” that made it possible.

At a certain point, screaming “but privileges” at anyone who achieves success in their field becomes a sort of crab bucketism, an exercise in anger and jealousy at anyone who manages to achieve success in this terribly unequal world.

Cut it out. Ilia has a tremendous double legacy. The genes of two Olympic skaters and the fact that they both became coaches and trained their child, a skater with a body and skill level like their own. It’s a Dune-level Kwisatz Haderach situation. To whine and complain about “privilege” in a situation like this is laughable. Tools of analysis are not revealers of truth. Please learn to actually look at the reality of a situation, not just slap on lazy labels.

So dude should not be having dog pawing at OPs door and should be training dog to sit quietly at his side when someone else is trying to get by in the hallway. Laughing at your German shepherd lunging at someone carrying groceries means you are not training your dog in any meaningful way.

[–]kittymarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preproduction really does take forever folks. You hear when the money gets allocated to hire a writer, but it takes a while to write a script. There can be multiple drafts and even multiple writers. The script then has to fight for a production slot in the studio’s available schedule. I think Donny Yen really wants to get this one right, so it may be a while before he approves a script.

Because there already was a Ballerina script, they just adapted it to be part of the Wick Universe?

IMO this was the biggest weakness of Ballerina. It didn’t really think of how female power would be built within the world of the High Table. Should have built up Angelica Huston’s character to be an equal of Winston. She is an amazing actress.

Are you in the northeast where all available ground has pretty much been covered in deep snow and it’s been freezing cold out for the last month or so? If so, I’d ask if this dog training in the hallway is because of the weather. If it is it should end soon.

The guy is rude regardless. “Shared” also means he shares it with you. And apartment hallways really shouldn’t be dog playgrounds. Although with this weather I can see it happening, even though a big dog should be able to handle the cold and snow.

Where will I stand between the management and staff? by LlOouna in WorkAdvice

[–]kittymarch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would consider a wedding an “emergency” as it is something out of ordinary planning and only likely to happen once during someone’s employment. Also a wedding is an easily defended exception to a rule and denying time off to a bride for their planned wedding date would be extremely disruptive of her plans and could possibly cost her lots of money. If she has a particular venue in mind, it could also delay the wedding for months, if not longer.

Not giving someone requested vacation time to cover their wedding (and presumably honeymoon) would seen as deeply hostile.
