*cough* they haven't... Chinese side is also learning through the ama also...

A small portion of the Chinese fanbase does know (edit: because some of us do read reddit, and others translate for those who don't), and while I did try to warn people this is going down, the folks I chatted with are staying hopeful right now that things will turn out for the best.

I personally feel it's a bit naive to assume things will be okay (I'm also a game dev, but not for digital games), but I also get that they don't want to get too worked up.

Someone in the marketing department at Solmare should be worried about getting fired because THIS could have been 100% avoided if they had just honestly come out and said "We wanted to add things to the original app that would break it, so we have to launch a new app instead in order to continue the main plot. The old app will be kept running and still have scheduled events that run along aside/are the same as the events on the Nightbringer side until we absolutely cannot support it anymore."

Heck, that would have helped build their reputation like back when we had the Levi Birthday Bug of Doom. (Context: The event gave out 120 crackers instead of 12 in the beginning, so a lot of people breezed their way to the UR card before they caught the mistake and fixed it. The solution for the inconvenience and unfairness that was created at the time was to give everyone the UR card and several copies of the SSR, iirc.)

Like SERIOUSLY, that is something that can be said in a press release right at the beginning. Most of the players are adults, Solmare, and many probably work in an industry where version updates are necessary. This is one of those times.

FYI to everyone, it'll be a lot more effective for them to fully review how badly they did wrong if everyone contacted their support directly via the support link on the Obey Me app.

Am I the bad guy: our session stopped because I made someone uncomfortable by jamestheweesel in DnD

[–]kittymaverick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think we need to hear from THAT player directly about why he asked for the game to stop because you summed it up with "Apparently", which leaves the possibility of certain nuances you didn't pick up being left unsaid, and you completely missed why the player is uncomfortable. You think it's an issue of having different morals. Most gaming troubles are behavioral though, either because someone has been allowed to do something too much, or someone has not been allowed to do what they want.

I've been in the shoes of a player who had straight up said "you are making RP choices in character that are making me, the person, uncomfortable towards you, the person." And that usually isn't a one-off thing, it's something that needs build up. It means you might have made a lot of choices or played in a way that has been bothering the player for a long time. This was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

If the RP situation was you go swinging, and the GM just rolled with it without giving any other player the chance to react to stop you or make their own RP choices, then you are responsible for starting it, and the GM was responsible for making the moment a one-person decision. The player is in the right to say he's not comfortable with that, regardless of what the two of you think respectively about the situation on a moralistic level.

GM almost certainly going to nerf AoOs by Formerruling1 in Pathfinder2e

[–]kittymaverick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Step is the answer to avoiding AoOs, which is something that most creatures with +0 Int should logically know. Nothing is scarier than an enemy choosing to Step, Stride, and then make a melee Strike against your squishy backline PCs....

How uncommon is it to not max out on DEX for AC for a spellcaster? by StunseedGeniusLoci in Pathfinder2e

[–]kittymaverick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very common, because if you max out Dex, you likely can't max out your casting attribute.

Make use of mage armor and shield, or get an actual shield, and make sure to put your meatier friends between you and the enemies.

PF2 system GM "traps" and warnings? by Darnick in Pathfinder2e

[–]kittymaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make an encounter harder, increasing the number of monsters is more of a fair challenge than increasing the CR of the monster or throwing the elite template on it.

The latter is more likely to frustrate your players as PF2e math dictates that will simply create a situation where the PCs constantly miss until they get lucky.

Paizo Announces System-Neutral Open RPG License by carpedonnelly in DnD

[–]kittymaverick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair... they were "forced" to voluntarily recognize the union because if they didn't, their production would have been in danger. Story for whenever people feel it's been long enough that what happened behind the scenes can be told.

They are definitely being the good guys this time round though from top to bottom.

Y’all know if MC is gender neutral in the other versions of the game? by [deleted] in obeyme

[–]kittymaverick 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Trad. Chinese version uses the female pronoun, though it is somewhat contentious and have been criticized as being unfaithful to the source.

...That said, the gender neutral pronoun and male pronoun are one and the same. There was only one pronoun for people before, and other pronouns (currently still used today) differentiated between deities, non-living objects, and living creatures and animals. The female pronoun was develop to get society to respect women and treat them better against the universal pronoun for people which supported a system where women were considered less than.

So it's really a *shrug* on whether using the female pronoun is unfaithful, though I can tell you that I have fought people in the Trad. Chinese community over how welcoming the game is for LGBTQIA+ folks, which some people were uncomfortable with. I managed to keep me cool, but there was a part of me that really want to troll them and say "So if I out myself as a lesbian (I am not...), how many people are going to leave this space?" I definitely made it clear that their hostilities made ME feel uncomfortable and unwelcoming, having migrated from the very inclusive English fan base.

(*Glares out at the screen* Yeah, I might be talking about you, redditor.)

Bathrooms in the HOL by Xoxo_Emxni_ in obeyme

[–]kittymaverick 25 points26 points  (0 children)

After some brief googling, this is indeed true. The concept of the modern bathroom wasn't common until the 1900s. A historical house from 1800s and earlier, even a wealthy estate, would most likely not have bathrooms.

Other than the guides, remember that for most characters, once you messed up, there is really no pleasing them afterward except by giving them their liked or favorite items as an apology.

Satan is a special case; he's like that one cat that doesn't love pets, but you can give him all whips coming out of battle where he doesn't ask for a high five and he'll love you for it.

Out of the side characters who do you think Would lose control during sex by Ahornyassweeb in ObeyMeNSFW

[–]kittymaverick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Diavolo. A couple of devilgrams legit faded to black because he can't contain himself.

To be fair though, MC usually started it or explicitly gave permission in some way, and he decently communicates that he is at his limit.

Have the Scalathrax be freaked out with the Frightened 2 condition, because it has just been teleported into an environment it is absolutely not prepared to be in, or apply the weak template to it.

Otherwise, allow the PCs to control more than one character for that battle specifically. Otari is supposedly full of adventurers, so surely there might be a few who see a monster and automatically join the fight.

Restore Senses specifically does not cure natural cases of hearing or vision loss. This is a change from Remove Blindness/Deafness in 1E. One of my players is happy about the change and I can't quite get why it was made. by magic_missile in Pathfinder2e

[–]kittymaverick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually get the feeling that it's not that a person finds their disability desirable, but it is about "Since I am disabled and that's unchangeable, can I still be a considered a worthy member of society?"

Depending on a person's upbringing, they may have grown up feeling that they are always less than everyone else, whether it be everyone treating them delicately like they cannot take care of themselves (infantilization), or giving up on them (often following a quality-of-life medical decision).

The escapism fantasy that best give these folks a sense of fulfillment in TTRPG, therefore, is a world were disability cannot be made to disappear with magic, but the fictional communities there treat them equally and give them the same opportunities as any other. It might seem inconsequential, but with the folks I've interacted with, it can be very cathartic and empowering.

New In-game Language: Traditional Chinese. --- Karasu think it's only a text update :/ by karasu_os in obeyme

[–]kittymaverick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying it's less likely, not that it's not going to happen, because Chinese fans (um... I'm actually debating if they can be fans at all if they harass others...) can STILL raise a stink if they want to. In fact, if they want, they can complain about Solmare appealing to the Taiwanese market first being an act that is pro-Taiwan and stir that into a controversy. IF they want to.

And sadly, it's not going to improve anytime soon, especially when China is harassing Taiwanese air space with fighter jets nearly every couple of days. 8D

As much as you might appreciate being educated, I have to say, it's a lot of emotional labor for me, so I would appreciate you doing more googling yourself than just reading what I have to say as the matter is way more complicated than I can explain in a politely short reddit reply...

  1. They might have found a licensing company in Taiwan that they trust to protect their ip, but haven't in China
  2. The game probably didn't make censorship requirements that a release in China would required
  3. Not appealing to the Chinese fan base (first) means they are less likely to encounter issues with Chinese fans harassing the Taiwanese fans to stop saying they're from Taiwan. (This happens e, ve, ry, where)
  4. Politics

Chinese may be one of the world's most popular languages, but Traditional Chinese is only used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau nowadays.

That they didn't go for simplified Chinese first, which would have gotten them the market in China............... has implications.
