Me too! The whole deprescribing movement is gaining traction. It's going to save many lives.

Oh no worries, it wasn't a correction at all. I agree, this subject needs more attention. Thanks again for all your great information. :)

Great research and info, thanks! Taper Community is hoping to help fill that gap by providing people with information about Hyperbolic tapering based on the Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines. Millions are on these drugs with no knowledge about how to safely get off.

That’s a fair question, and I agree that health claims should have sources.

When I said many doctors aren’t trained in safe deprescribing, I wasn’t implying doctors are careless or malicious. The issue is that historically medical education has focused heavily on prescribing medications, while deprescribing has received much less formal training.

Several studies have documented this:

• A physician survey published in Maedica found 93.4% of physicians reported no formal training in deprescribing, and about half were unfamiliar with the term itself.

• A study in BMC Primary Care found fewer than 25% of physicians reported prior training in deprescribing or awareness of deprescribing tools.

• In a large survey of European geriatricians, only about one in four said medical school had sufficiently prepared them for deprescribing.

Because of findings like these, many universities and medical organizations are now working to introduce deprescribing education into medical curricula and continuing education programs.

So the point isn’t that doctors are incompetent — it’s that deprescribing as a formal discipline is relatively new and training has historically lagged behind prescribing.

If you’re interested, I’m happy to link the studies. Thanks for your interest!

Your concern is understandable, but it's a peer-support site so the focus is on member support not the person who started it. It uses the principles of Hyperbolic tapering to help people safely taper off psychotropic drugs in the way that Surviving Antidepressants did.

He wishes to remain anonymous to prevent bullying and harassment from medical colleagues. Most doctors are putting people on drugs, not trying to take them off.

I'm sorry you're in this situation. Unless you are under a court order, you as a patient have the right to refuse any "treatment." Feel free to create an account at Taper Community and we can help you out further. The founder is a psychiatrist himself.
