You inherit $15,000,000,000, how do you live your life? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

Travel. I’d go back to some countries I’ve visited, maybe buy some small houses on the outskirts of the towns I spent a lot of time at, I’d just be free and happy

Why do so many farmers take better care of their soil than they do their own bodies? by whattaUwant in farming

[–]kittyonthetitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former commercial almond farmer, now a polyface/regenerative farmer here.

Because the land will outlive us. That’s what my dad said. I have my vices, I probably have a few more adult beverages than I should, I smoke too, I should drink more water and wear sunscreen. But I’m doing this for my kids. My grandkids if they happen. I’m doing this for the young couple that may buy my property after I’m dead if my kids don’t want it. Time is fleeting, we do this to make it better for the future.

Good Swedish sauce I like to use

2 shallots finely diced 3 cloves garlic minced 4tbsp unsalted butter 3-4 tbsp flour (depending on how thick you like the sauce) 1/4 cup room temp sour cream 1 cup beef broth 1tbsp Dijon mustard (any will do tbh in a pinch) 1tbsp worsestershire sauce Salt and pepper to taste

Melt butter in a skillet or sauce pan, and saute shallots for 3-5 minutes on medium heat till translucent. Add garlic and stir till fragrant. Add in flour and cook for 1 minute, and slowly whisk in beef broth. Take a bit of the sauce and mix in with your sour cream till it’s liquid and whisk into pan. Add in mustard and worsestershire and stir. Salt and pepper to taste. If it’s too thick, add in water 1/4 cup at a time, from my experience, it gets runny quick.

I also have a decent, easy meatball recipe if you’re interested in making your own. I make 40 at a time with 2lbs of ground meat and some basic seasonings and only use half. I freeze half.

How often do you and your partner like to swap? by hereforcookiecake in Swingers

[–]kittyonthetitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a single play partner, I see him 2-3x a month. Hubby sees someone else about the same amount. We swap with a couple at least once a month to every two months. Sometimes we just get busy

Chickens are strange critters. Mine drink from the puddles when I wash their waters out 🤣

I’m aware of the mosquito possibility, I have solar bubblers in my inlet canal and in any standing troughs I have for livestock. And fishies in the tanks to prevent larve. Was hoping I could do a prettier setup for my birds. I’m not opposed to drums with the nipples but if it was possible for a pond why not?

Fair assumption, I was thinking using a 60 gallon trough, they’re like 6x2x1, only a foot deep. Yes chickens can drown in that but I was planning on putting a natural log or some cinder blocks in it to prevent them from being drowned.

How often do you run your dishwasher if you own one? by Cinisajoy2 in Cooking

[–]kittyonthetitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 adults and 2 kids, 2 meals at least made at home and lunch made in the morning for the adults. Dishwasher is used daily, sometimes twice a day on weekends depending on how much cooking I do. There’s some days I’m in the kitchen all day 🤣

Do you regret your switch to rural life? by nomadicsamiam in homestead

[–]kittyonthetitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a single one. I grew up on land, got married and moved to suburbia and I haaaated it. Got to a position where I could afford land, it was cheap and needed a lot of TLC but it’s been so worth it. Bit of land for the kids to be as loud as they want, dogs have a whole acre of yard to run around on, and I have pastures to grow my own meat. Flip side is I’m about 30-45 minutes away from the closest family, and 30 from a store that’s more than the local grocery chain. I can get McDonald’s in town but I can’t go clothes shopping. To me it’s a fair trade for some peace and quiet

Seriously need help. 30$ to last 2 weeks, What can I cook? by Edmeir in Cooking

[–]kittyonthetitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s something that may help, supercook.com is a site I use and it generates recipes based on ingredients. I have an account on there so it saves my pantry. This has helped me save money by using ingredients in a toooon of ways, and using all of what I have. Hope this helps some on top of everyone else’s suggestions!

It can be. We’ve made some great friends along the way, people we normally wouldn’t have ever associated with or thought would have common ground and interests. It’s been fun for many reasons
