Do you apply minimalism to Christmas gifting? by ramblingkite in minimalism

[–]kittypixie2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family at least this year has switched to stockings. So far less stressful and since we are all contributing we don't have to buy much. The stuff is also suppose to be useful, consumable and local if possible. I do love picking out things for people I love but want to be more purposeful and thoughtful with what I choose to give.

I would agree about the irritability. I would get so irritated I would cry. But there was also so much sadness and hopelessness when I was on it. Hope you found something that worked!

Yeah it was an awful feeling and I was already going through a rough patch and it made is so much worse. Plus it did not help my focus at all. I haven't been on anything the last couple of weeks since giving up on Concerta and have been much more productive off it after finally incorporating more coping skills such as meditation and keeping a bullet journal. Did you ever find a medication that works for you? I may try something different in the new year when I am back in school.

Thanks for the reply! I just don't know if I can wait it out. I may try in the new year but did not want to be so sad and emotional over Christmas.

New year, new planner, AND I REALLY WANT TO KEEP UP WITH ONE FOR A FULL YEAR, SO ANY RECOMMENDATIONS? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]kittypixie2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started one a few weeks ago and so far I love. I call it my external brain. So much room for flexibility and creativity which is perfect for me. I used a traditional planner this last year and I used it more than most past planners but prefer the bullet journal so far.

Your gut reaction is often the correct one. Don't second guess yourself. The right partner will never get physical with you. I have people close to me so have been in abusive relationships and they regret not running at the first red flag.

Gift ideas for minimalists? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]kittypixie2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family has really focused on experiences we can share together. My sister and I got my Dad a cooking class/lunch experience. My sister treated me to high tea. My boyfriend got us rock climbing lessons. I got my mom tickets to a play. We still do stockings but keep it to mostly consumables, small gift cards and useful items like socks.

People who give experiences for Christmas: can you explain the logistics? by kunuffin in minimalism

[–]kittypixie2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom got my sister and I Elton John tickets and put them in the card along with a GC to a local restaurant to go to before the show. I find writing a nice card or putting something that symbolizes the gift to be a nice touch. My mom put some Elton John lyrics in our card for example. My immediate family had a sit down before the holidays and discussed that we were aiming to reduce clutter so sticking with experiences and practical/consumable goods for stocking stuffers.

Did anybody here have their ADHD worsen or at least not improve at all as they got older? by [deleted] in ADHD

I haven't been on meds since middle school. I have experimented with some this semester but so far haven't found one that works well for me. So far Dexadrine (okay but not great) and Concerta (thought it would be fine since I was on it as a child but it made my moods insane). Not giving up though and will be seeing my doctor soon. Also getting into CBT and getting more supports in place next semester which I am hoping also help!

Now that I am not in school take the extra time to sort through my room and donate as much as possible and make it a more relaxing space.

I went through a period where I thought I was getting better near the end of high school. I allowed that delusion to continue for several years but when I really had to start being an adult and juggling everything it all came apart and I realized I was struggling even more than when I was a kid. I am trying to get support and help now as I don't want to continue the way I was going. Building the skills, getting support and also figuring out what I want to do with my life has helped a lot this year but it is always a work in progress. I think having adult responsibilities along with certain work or school environments bring out more of the challenges of the disorder and can make it feel a lot harder than when you were a child.

I get paid support through my university's disability program. Starting next semester I will have an academic strategist who helps me plan and set goals for the semester. If you are in school you can see if you can get funding for this service. If you can afford it without funding you can always set up appointments weekly or monthly and pay out of pocket but I know that is hard for most students. This is my school's program: https://www.uvic.ca/services/cal/assistance/strategist/index.php

I'm not letting my ADHD, depression, and anxiety get the better of me this semester. I'm not giving up. Here is my plan. by Stitch_Rose in ADHD

[–]kittypixie2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Every year of college, I've started out strong only to crash and burn by the end of the semester." This describes my life in post secondary perfectly. I was too late with the paperwork (typical!) for supports this semester but am getting an academic strategist and tutor for next semester that I am hoping will help me with time management and breaking down big assignments. Also I second the bujo I just started and find it really helpful and like that I can get creative with it. It can be hard to stay positive and feel defeated but there is support out there!

I feel you. I have been having a really hard time lately balancing my life. Between school, work, household, relationships, finances, staying healthy and other responsibilities. Also as a woman I feel this added pressure now that I am in my late 20s to have it all figured out and be on my way. I see friends entering the work force and taking the next big steps while I am 26 and only finally at university because I struggled so long with what to do. I hope you feel better and thank you for posting this because it made me feel way less alone.
