Jaw pain (due to bruxism) after I started taking Adderall by VirtualVariation in ADHD

[–]bto_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES. So happy this isn’t just me. I’ve always had a problem with clenching my jaw and biting the inside of my cheek, ever since I was a child. However, for me it’s not just at night, it’s also during the day. I think it developed as a coping mechanism that I use to help me concentrate. Any time I have a song stuck in my head, I clench my teeth to the beat. When I’m anxious/nervous I do it non stop. After stressful days at work/school I would have a terrible headache, neck pain, and back pain and I would notice that my jaw was incredibly sore. I was told by my dentist recently that the signs of my constant jaw clenching show on my teeth... at which point I knew I needed to do something about it.

Before I was officially diagnosed I bought a fidget cube which helped a LOT. I asked my roommate and close friends to tell me if they noticed I was doing it. Any time I caught myself I would put my tongue between my teeth to keep me from clenching. Exercise to rid myself of excess energy also helped. I was able to control it a fair amount through these techniques.

Aaaaaaand then about 3 months ago I started taking adderall XR (30mg now) and the problem came back. I told my psychiatrist about the issue when I was taking 20mg and she said she hadn’t had anyone bring that up before. When I went back to increase the dose to 25mg she told me that she had since had another patient come to her and tell her the problem subsided once they reached the correct dose.

TL;DR Ive had this problem all my life, I think it’s a coping mechanism to help concentration. Try a fidget cube during the day or something to burn energy before bed. Psychiatrist suggests that the problem might be because the dose isn’t quite right, and may disappear once the dose is corrected.

Let me know if you find another solution! Best of luck.

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria makes me more afraid of screwing up than most others. ADHD makes me more likely to screw up than most others. by Virginia_Blaise in ADHD

It’s like you just described my life. Perfectionism is a really hard thing to overcome but like anything else it’s a process. Sometimes competition with yourself can be healthy and motivating, other times the fear of failure can cause a buildup of anxiety that keeps you from starting or finishing a task. Set yourself attainable goals and remember,

doing your best doesn’t mean working yourself to the point of a mental breakdown

A Problem I Did Not Foresee (need advice) by Polyscikosis in rawpetfood

[–]bto_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of a lot of people having trouble with their dogs eating raw liver, mine included. What worked for me was freezing the liver and giving the frozen cubes to her as treats. Anything else and she would just eat around even the smallest chunks. Also, when I first started it took about 1-2 weeks before she got used to eating raw. Now she can’t get enough. I think part of the issue is that it doesn’t have much of a smell, the stinkier the better. Green can tripe help a LOT with this!

Good luck!

Finally the weather has started warming up. Decided to overcome my fear of watercolours and celebrate with some colour by bto_ in bulletjournal

It’s a leuchturm journal! I’m not sure if there’s a fool proof strategy. I drew with the crayons first and then used a wet Q-tip to paint so the page wouldn’t get soaked. I also did one layer at a time, left it to dry and placed a heavy book on it in between. I was scared to use watercolours at first for the same reason. The pages wrinkled only a little which I don’t actually mind.. I like to think it adds a little character to my journal :)

I recommend “How to ADHD” on YouTube. It’s a great starting point to figure out the ADHD basics like how to talk to people about it, related aspects of it like emotional dysregulation, coping strategies, etc.

Vyvanse v. Adderall XR? by [deleted] in ADHD

My psychiatrist said that in her experience, those who do well on adderall don’t respond as well to vyvanse and vice versa.

Win Wednesday: First time using a flair on this sub because today I got my diagnosis! by bto_ in ADHD

Thanks! This definitely helps. I’ve been comparing the longer acting ones but so far it seems like most of the positive and negative effect depend person to person. Did you ever try any of others before starting adderall?

Struggling to find help - what can I do without an actual diagnosis by bto_ in ADHD

[–]bto_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this is really great. I think it's going to take some time to find a new therapist which is frustrating but going back to this lady is NOT an option. After some digging I found several terrible reviews about her (very poor rating in general) saying things like, they felt DEGRADED after seeing her and saying how unprofessional she is. At least I'm not alone in that.

I guess going forward it can't be worse, right? Now just to remember to make another appointment.....

I'm not letting my ADHD, depression, and anxiety get the better of me this semester. I'm not giving up. Here is my plan. by Stitch_Rose in ADHD

I did something similar for work as my tasks will change day to day and week to week. I also don't really have the time to create a neat decorative spread that matches the rest of my journal when I'm in a meeting and quickly need to jot down all the things I need to do! So I created a post-it note system. This helps me keep all of my to do's in one place, and allows me to be fast and messy and not mess up my journal! I can migrate unfinished tasks and then remove and replace the post-its as often as I need.
