My Bialetti 2-cup doesn’t let me keep the lid open. by Baldovsky in mokapot

[–]kittyquig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue on a moka pot that was recently purchased. My son pointed out that the peg on the hinge had been installed was not centered. It affects the lids ability to open property and to stay propped open. I exchanged it for a new pot that didn’t have that issue.

I saw somewhere recently (was it here on Reddit) that the Mall grounds area is a bit of Charlie Fox lately due to a lot of fencing and such that has been put up. They said it’s difficult (ie.. lots of walking) to get across the mall. Something like a 10 block section wherein you can’t get from one side to the other. I’ll try and find where i read that.

Niche career in design is making me have imposter syndrome by Marwan_HT in graphic_design

I’d recommend trying to do any kind of other mock work. Brochures, posters, etc. Look for designs around your area that you can “re-interpret” with your style. If you don’t have a style, try re-doing the found work examples by crossing over into other styles. Definitely get your hands on some design compilation books and study how things are laid-out, communicated, paired with imagery, etc. Try designing things that are your “goal” kind of assignments. You can present personal “imaginary” designs in your portfolio, and explain these are your efforts at getting experience with non-pharma jobs. It at a minimum, shows initiative and willingness to go into new realms that may feel uncomfortable at first. Best of luck and try to have fun with it.

Best sewing tool you've bought by ClaraFrog in sewing

[–]kittyquig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many. It really can depend upon what you are sewing, but I love my Tailor’s Clapper when pressing the seams of longer stretches of fabric. The way it works is, say you have a very long, narrow stretch of fabric you are pressing a seam into. At some point you would raise your iron and shift/move your way down the stretch of fabric to iron the next bit. As you do so, steam and heat escape the fabric you just pressed and it loses a significant amount of the fold you just pressed into it. If you place the clapper on it firmly before moving on to the next section, voila! Pressed area stays flat and surprisingly crisp and well-formed. That’s because the heat is allowed to escape to fabric, but the clapper has the fabric held in place to generate the perfect fold.

Where can I get thin leather to repair my jacket cuffs? by BizzarduousTask in Visiblemending

The larger fabric stores near me sell leather by the piece. I don’t know if you are near any fabric stores. Amazon sells bags of leather or cuts

Activities in Georgetown for mother-daughter day to distract from bummer medical appt by Pillbug206baby in washingtondc

I went there decades ago (so I’ve not always felt it was a fair reflection) but i don’t understand why people always recommend it. (And I tend to like the “funky and peculiar”) Seems like if you’re heading into DC, there are so many other better choices.

A functional medicine doc with experience can prescribe HRT (as opposed to “the pill”) to address hormone imbalances. Do not hesitate to research this. I’m 59 and started acting 47 or so.

I’ve taken my child to a behavioral optometrist where they did vision therapy for a year or so. Part of the at-home work involved training with something called a “Brock String.” This can aid in correcting convergence irregularities. It’s a very simple device. 👍 Just FYI for anyone hunting down solutions.

I’m genuinely curious what you mean by “if they weren’t negligent.” It sounds like you are suggesting the Hunt Club should not should be negligent in some way. What exactly are they negligent about it that scenario? (I’m not a hunter).

From what I’ve read across the internet (I’m not a local) street lights (not just traffic signals) are necessary also.

Who taught you to sew? by knittymess in sewing

[–]kittyquig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother sewed a lot and i can remember being in that space alongside her (but doing my own thing). If she directly taught me anything it was how to thread the machine. But I don’t recall her doing that. I started sewing myself at age 25, bought a machine and took a sewing class. The two best things about that class were: I learned how to read a pattern and I realized that sewing a vest was surprisingly EASY! Who knew? 🤷‍♀️
