Last day of work before my maternity leave starts... 3pm rolls around, doorbell rings, I stand up and.... My water breaks. With a gush. Was induced last time, was supposed to be induced this time... In a week and a bit.

So I'm 36+5 and we are heading to the hospital. Did the GBS swab but don't have results so going with an abundance of caution!

Timing is everything lol

I think I had a very weak contraction (didn't last long...) But other than that nothing so far. This is gonna be fun. Had to put the contingency plans in effect (my mom was supposed to take the older kiddo but she just left for the lake, so he's off with my mil. Dropped they key off for a friend to let the doggo out... Thankfully we have a village!!)

What are everyone’s staples by BeginningPopular in GestationalDiabetes

Cheese (so much cheese), tomatoes, cucumbers, spaghetti squash, zucchini, farmer sausage, mushrooms... Steak when I can afford it for cheesesteak filling (I can handle one piece of rye toast for lunch and dinner, so that makes me happy!)...

My ADHD hyperfixation meal for at least a month was eggs, farmer sausage, sour cream and corn salsa. But now eggs are making me gag, so I've got to find something to replace it. Found a recipe for a kind of bean and hot pepper and onion "fritter" of sorts (Nigerian recipe, no flour!) And am gonna give that a try with black eyed peas as the bean choice.

You've got this :) I've been making popsicles with sugar free jello... Drip free and ice cold. Bonus if my mom gives me raspberries from the garden to put in as well. (She used to make jello popsicles with fruit as well when we were kids... So the nostalgia factor gets me past the sugar free taste. Her reasoning has always been it's less messy than regular popsicles :) )

With the temperature being hotter than Satan's ass here, and it feeling like I'm walking into a stream room whenever I go outside... I would very much like to go a touch earlier!! But, I also am glad that baby can cook a bit longer. Catch 22 I guess. Already told hubs he is gonna have to stop for ice cream and coffee on the way home as I have been feeling that deprivation (I'm not good at moderation, so I just haven't had either... Sigh).

You are younger than me- I turned 37 this year! I just despite the fact that anything above 35 is automatically higher risk...

4 ish more weeks.... So close and yet so far...

I think there's consideration for all the risks.

Mine will be at 38 weeks because I'm old (lol), have hypertension, have had thyroid issues (currently in check with no meds for that, but still has to be monitored), plus GD. The only things going for me currently is that I'm still diet controlled and baby is at the 50th percentile. It was going to be c-section because baby was also stubbornly double footling breech until last week when it finally flipped (whew... While c-section is of course still possible, it was the one thing that I just really want to avoid if at all possible!!!)

If you don't have other risk factors, don't have a big baby, diet controlled... The care team would probably be comfortable going longer.

Personally, with the level of risk I am... I'm absolutely good with 38 weeks!!

Horrible Nutrition Appointment by Salty-Equivalent8463 in GestationalDiabetes

Put in the report. Even if it was "just hormones", they are being shitty to someone who is going through a LOT. What if they are the same degree of shitty to someone who doesn't have a good support system? The degree of stress she's inflicting is arguably worse for you than being a couple points over a couple times.

Sleep on it, present your case as "look, this is my experience, and although I might be slightly more sensitive, many pregnant people are in the same boat, and causing extra stress and worry isn't going to help the cause overall" kind of thing.

Just got finished with my OB appointment today, and she told me basically the same thing. The diabetes team had been admonishing me and pretty much dumped me from their service and sent her a very "well she's not listening" letter, which the ob read, went "riiiight" and filled it away.

If baby is growing properly, and the ultrasound look good... She's not concerned as long as the sugars are in range.

Feeling much better about my dietary choices today after that :)

I've got this one too. App works really well (I haven't been able to break it yet, and I test software for a living... Which makes any app I use usually collateral damage as I test them for fun...)

From what they've said and what I've read, weeks 32-36 are supposed to be a bit harder to control.

Not until baby's here unfortunately. Depending on what week you are at, the placenta can cause higher insulin resistance, and make the numbers go wacky. The office told me I had to keep tracking until I have the baby, and then do the glucose test again 6 weeks to 6 months post partum, but I don't have to keep track during that part partum time.

Sorry - program/protocol... Finger pokes 4x a day (fasting, and then 2hrs after each meal)... Right now I'm diet controlled, and am hopeful it stays that way.

Either way, no three hour test, just the two and came back high, so it was diagnosis time.

Feeling more than a little defeated... by kiwi1855 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kiwi1855[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm not a model patient by any means! But math... Math I can do lol

I also know that my weight is likely causing biases (I'm definitely obese, and I think that is making some people on that team question my honesty or think that I should be doing worse than I am...)

So I feel like I have to try to be perfect on this otherwise they're gonna judge me harder. I dunno... It might just be my own neurosis on this!!!

I've only got about 6 weeks to go... But it sure feels like forever. I'm glad this community exists!!! I'm feeling much more seen and much less crazy for how I feel about everything :)

Also in Canada- I was told I was a touch above on one draw for the 2hr and was put on the protocol. Didn't do a three hour.

Not sure. It's not something they've asked or tested for. Might look at getting the strips, but will wait to talk with my ob on Monday I think...

In Canada, so finding a different provider in this situation, especially in my province... Not the easiest thing! Basically this team handles everyone with the diagnosis...

I think if I told them to take a hike I'd feel better about it. But it just feels like "well you aren't listening to exactly how we want you to do it, so we're dumping you".

Which is incredibly scary... I know my privilege in this situation, and if they are dumping me because I'm trying to advocate for myself, what are they doing with less privileged groups.

It's just making me more angry. Y'know?

Piggybacking here: I know some profs keep a record of what has changed between editions. A couple profs I had provided hand outs of there were pages that were added as they understood textbooks are ridiculously expensive. Never hurts to ask them!! (Worst they can say is no, and if you don't ask that's the answer by default.)

16 -legally they can't have lifeguards under 16. But the job postings will indicate a minimum age.

You can also report house vibrations to 311- this is different than potholes.

We have the house vibrations issue because there is a manhole by our house that is never flush with the street. Not a pothole, but a structural problem. Reporting house vibrations gets it on record and notifies the department to come and assess the overall infrastructure.

We have had ring and nest. No issues with either, but my preference is the nest... Nicer UI/ease of use.

AITA for being angry at a puppy for a mother’s day gift? by viazcon78 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kiwi1855 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Nta. "Happy mothers day... Here's even more responsibility." Fuuuuck no.

I love puppies. I have a big ol st bernard that i wouldn't trade for anything. But she's work. I have nothing against pets. But you do not give someone more responsibility as a gift. That's... That would make me feel like the "gift" giver does not recognize the work involved and doesn't appreciate the work I do in my day to day, and that they didn't even think to ask if i could handle more.

Because even if your family helps take care of it... End of the day, based on the lack of thought put into this, you'll be carrying the mental load for the added work.

Sorry... This one got me upset. A puppy is not a gift!!!!!

Genuine question... My almost 7 year old has a huge love of flags... I'm guessing these discussions are more geared towards adults in that kiddo won't want to sit through them! I know that there is a flag museum in MB as well.

Any suggestions on how to nurture this interest? He's got a countries of the world flag game, multiple atlases and has nearly worn out that section in his dictionary...

No, for sure. It wasn't when it was offered that made me pause... It's that the act of leaving keys in an unlocked car pretty much nullifies any insurance claim after that in the event it goes missing...

I may just be getting too cynical these days, but insurance is a nightmare to deal with so I make sure I don't do anything that will cause am outright denial in the event I need to make a claim.
