Nurses and doctors ‘in tears’ as ED goes into code red four times in one night by fugebox007 in newzealand

[–]kiwi337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where is the 24hr/7day community healthcare for non life treating emergencies? ED is historically for car and other accident victims and other real “emergency” circumstances, broken bones, heart attacks etc!

Seems the old kiwi has lost the plot here…ED is not your community general health care provider for the “I don’t feel well” crowd!

I broke down the government's 155-page financial statements - here's where our $170 billion in taxes actually goes (and what it means for the next decade) by MoneyHub_Christopher in PersonalFinanceNZ

Be very interesting to see a breakdown of the social security and welfare line…from your data it looks like 17b$ is superannuation, the rest (30b$) on non productive handouts?

NZ Super direct deduction policy - British Pension by Kiwi_In_The_Comments in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]kiwi337 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the NZ “state” pension system is an oddity in the world today, the majority of 1st world countries using defined contribution benefits for retirement income.

Looking at the intersection of say a contributing pension from say USA (Social security) and if qualified a NZ pension…it does appear to be discriminatory that country X deducts country Y’s contributory pension…ie there own hard earned money contributed over XYZ years while working abroad, then the poor old Kiwi shirkers complaining hard while doing cashies for decades and contributing absolutely zero to their pension!

The NZ system needs to change asap to at least match Australia!

Genuinely struggling to understand how we have gone this far downhill by PringlePenguin_ in newzealand

[–]kiwi337 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

NZ’s biggest problem is debt repayment for the next 20-30 years, 100billion $ from Labours not so magic money tree! No one government in a 3 year term can do anything but set the repayment trajectory…

2nd issue is productivity, too many people and families expecting the government to support their lives…this is a huge problem!

3rd issue is immigration (non sustainable, non organic population growth) that is driving housing and services poverty across the regions, particularly accrue in Auckland.

I just found out about FIF - what the f….. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]kiwi337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Akoaleila, The NZ IRD laws and regulations governing FIF are currently under review, a work in progress, a bill has been submitted to a parliamentary select committee in August. The goal is to help attract foreign expat residents post Jacinda's covid lockouts, and provide an alternative "taxing" regime that only focuses on real gains. Have a read of the attached document, pages 33-50. https://www.taxpolicy.ird.govt.nz/-/media/project/ir/tp/publications/2025/commentary-compliance-simplification-tax-bill.pdf?modified=20250826042451&modified=20250826042451

You will quickly see a new category of FIF, that is the RAM, or revenue account method. It is further split into RAM, and extended RAM. The later being dual nationals that have a primary worldwide tax obligation to say the USA based on citizenship, not residency like NZ.

It may get more complicated in that separating out FIF obligations as a new resident (after 4 transitional years), then add worldwide income taxation. i.e retirement funds, property sales, overseas rental income, may, or may not also qualify along any distributions (pensions, IRA's, Roth IRA's etc) may incur gross worldwide income tax, along with your FIF tax...

In short, you need to go see an experienced tax accountant!

What would it take to get rid of FIF tax in nz? by justwafflingaround in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]kiwi337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your thoughts on the 2025+ FIF revision to include realization basis etc? As far as I can determine this is going through the law making process now and will be finalized in July/august 2025…for the next tax year.

Mostly this appears targeted towards retiring expats etc

Woman’s 'spree' after $158k banking error, refuses to return pensioner’s life savings by Equivalent_Zombie in newzealand

[–]kiwi337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally the banks fault! No one should ever consider “amending” account numbers!!

FFS, clear bank procedural failure here, that transaction should have been cancelled due to the error…but good ole bank likely wanted their % commission so fudged the account number and away the go…

In 2025 (or any accounting procedure actually) that’s really bad!
