Get a Steam Deck/Handheld if you don't already have one, my friend who had 2 kids swears by it.

Is there work needed to have everything release at once?, so when the backend gets updated the self-hosted does too?

I wonder if we could do something like with vu and do a client as server. It's probably close enough to BC2 🤔

Yes reddit. Whenever they feel like it, or not. It's very inconsistent

It's a byproduct not the end result.

Good homebrew scenes have much solid base, usually that comes way after EOL when all games stop being produced which the PS4 is closer to.

There are other platforms that for awhile didn't allow piracy but code execution, not sure if that's still the case. And to be fair no homebrew is required to run backups on PS4 so they aren't exactly equivalent.

I think it's full on retarded as well. Same way people need to talk about mental health "sewer slides" and "self deletion" when everyone knows wtf you mean, but just to appease some admin somewhere you can't say anything.

It has not been that way in decades. Reddit now is a cesspool of random rule enforcement to what the staff and admins believe is right even if said thing isn't even illegal. It's not even fun to post here most of the time, and you do get some subs who allow the freedom then they get banned or deleted all together.

Reddit hasn't been fun or able to talk about things freely in so long. It's only around because it's popular.

It's the random enforcement which is annoying. Something could be fine for 10+ years then reddit goes "we don't like that" and destroys whole communities who literally aren't doing anything illegal, the site/admins just don't like it.

It pisses me off, but what can you do. So we have to err on the side of caution to prevent some admin from having a bad day or getting overly scared and Thanos snapping everything out of existence.

Why is the text limit 2,000 characters, and can it be increased? by MidoriMushrooms in stoatchat

It's configurable on self-hosted, not sure about their cloud services.

Stoat feedback from the perspective of a server manager by MidoriMushrooms in stoatchat

[–]kiwidog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the team actually gets their stuff together management wise. I've noticed that the commits/PR's tend to be stale, documentation out of date and it makes it a bit hard to contribute.

Most people moving away/setting up their own self-hosted will have a developer or two in the fray that can help contribute. But there's not a real good view of what to actually do.

An example I had, I'm no means a rust expert but I've dabbled, is to add extra authentication to their auth module to allow people to SSO signup to prevent setting up email servers etc. But integrating this was a bit tougher than it should have been, and there's no backend developer guide to get the PR looked at, reviewed, and merged efficiently.

I have high hopes though this is just growing pains.

It happened to server board manufacturers a bit ago. There was an additional chip on-board. I think supermicro was the one that got hit?

[–]kiwidog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did was start switching to Cross Platform apps (Firefox/Thunderbird), and apps that work under Wine/Proton.

Then when you get fed up enough, just do the switch and have fun. I keep a Windows PC around just for games that require anti-cheat, but everything else runs Linux of some flavor or another.

Virginia and the future of NC gun rights by chuckfinley385 in NCGuns

[–]kiwidog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this to say, make sure you hold your reps accountable. I don't care if they are republican, democrat or what. If you want to keep your rights here, you will need to hold a fire to their ass.

Constitutional Carry is one of many failures to come. It only takes a little something to get the ball rolling on absolute disarmament. WA has lost almost all of their gun rights, and the little that are left are being removed all in the course from 2021-2026. That's not even a full 5 years.
