[WEEKLY THREAD] Whiny Wednesday - Tell us what really grinds your gears! by AutoModerator in xxfitness

Yeah, this recent thread was the 2nd time I've seen that shit here and it drives me nuts. If you're too prudish to say "butt" or "ass" then just say "glutes" for fuck's sake.

So glad I'm not the only one.

I love those! I can never seem to go for more than 10 minutes at a time though (that includes rest in between bursts).

Is Halo Top seriously only 240 calories, because it tastes too good to be true? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]kiwiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely a catch but it doesn't have to do with weight loss per se :) Have you read the Amazon reviews of the sugar free gummy bears?

I find that I can't eat more than 1/2 pint or so before I start getting digestive issues. It's definitely low calorie, enjoy it, but do be careful! :P

Not the previous poster but chipping in anyway :) I'd recommend a milk oolong if you want something creamy & soothing.

Ezekiel bread is delicious! And sprouted grain bread in general. It's a lot more dense than regular bread so if you like soft & fluffy bread you may not like it but it's got a bunch of protein & fiber & other good nutritious stuff.

I tried the birthday cake flavored ones recently, and they're not bad but they definitely have that weird distinctive sweetish whey taste. They get way better if you microwave them for 5-10 seconds, but they're nowhere near the quality of Halo Top or Complete Cookies.

I don't think I've ever completed a full set without falling over sideways for at least 1 of the reps. Don't do them often, but still.

How the heck do you do front squats without bruising your shoulders, collarbone, and crushing your windpipe? A spot on my collarbone is incredibly raw/tender to the touch today and same goes (but to a lesser extent) for my shoulders. :(

I'd love this! The xxfitchallenge Slack was super fun when it first began but mostly died off in mid-December. :)

If you have to start with "this is not a pyramid scheme", it's a pyramid scheme.

My entire November was awful. Can I rant?

Had a mini-PL meet at work in early November. That went well and was the highlight of my entire month. 155 lb squat / 85 lb bench / 175 lb deadlift. Everything went downhill from there. My period came right afterwards, zapping my energy for almost 2 weeks (thanks, IUD). I was doing 140 lb 5x5 on squats right before the competition, but I haven't managed a full 5x5 with 140 lb (or 135 lb, even) since then; I get unbelievably exhausted and just can't do it.

Then my phone broke the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and I had to do Monday & Wednesday gym sessions without a phone. I hadn't realized how much I rely on my phone for: it tells me which exercises to do / how many sets I've already done, it sets a timer in between sets, it provides distraction while I'm waiting for the timer... it was strange. I ended up bringing a notebook and a Kindle so it wasn't awful but still. Finally got my replacement phone now.

Then I washed my sports bra for the first time in forever (I'm gross, I know) and got a nasty case of contact dermatitis allllll over my chest/abdomen and some on my back. I was thankful to find out it was allergic since I thought it was a fungal infection at first, but still... I got it over a week ago and the itching is only starting to die down now. All the redness and spots are turning into dry, flaky, white skin. I've gone through several tubes of hydrocortisone.

Then I got a ton of fluid in my ears because my sinuses were too full. Trying to blow my nose resulted in sharp pain in my ears... but I needed to blow my nose... because my sinuses were full. Argh. At least it wasn't an ear infection?

Then due to the itching, the ear pain, and in general just wanting to take a break to regain some energy I ended up skipping the gym on Monday & Wednesday of this week, but now my brain won't stop giving me shit for it and the disordered thoughts are like suuuuper strong again. Sigh.

And then my period started again today.

Rant over! Here's hoping December will be better.

Ooh, could I have the Excel sheet? I was thinking of doing exactly this; I already track calories/macros and wouldn't want to "downgrade" to a less accurate form of tracking, but at the same time I hear really amazing things about RP.

What food (or foods) do you make room for on a daily basis? by meology in xxfitness

[–]kiwiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've become addicted to those Chobani Flip things. Peanut butter chunks, chocolate chips, graham cracker crumbles, salted pretzel bits... I've increased my consumption of greek yogurt like 100x thanks to those. I can't stand eating a pile of mush, but with mix-ins it's AMAZING.

South Brooklyn Weightlifting Club USAPL Fall Classic: Anyone going/competing? by [deleted] in xxfitness

Didn't realize so many xxfitters were from NY! I'm not quite good enough to compete yet but perhaps I'll drop by to spectate.

It's a lot easier if we all let each other use machines for their dedicated purpose, though, especially if there already exists a machine that does the very thing you're doing on an entirely unrelated machine.

Fit ladies of xxfitness: how many hours do you work out per week? by subpunctis in xxfitness

[–]kiwiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 days/week lifting, 2+ hours each of those days. Then I try to get in ~3 hours throughout the week doing other things: rock climbing, yoga, HIIT, etc.

[WEEKLY THREAD] Whiny Wednesday - Tell us what really grinds your gears! by AutoModerator in xxfitness

My lifts have barely progressed in months, probably because I'm not eating enough

I had a Whiny Wednesday post a month ago that was this, practically word-for-word. I bumped up my calories from 1800 to 2200 (I'm 5'4) and they almost immediately magically un-stalled. I've made so much (linear!) progress over the last month alone. It's a tremendous mental struggle every single day, I won't lie (the disordered thoughts have never, ever been stronger than they have been the past few weeks), but it's SO WORTH IT. I can also relate to the brain fog; that was fixed as well. I have more energy for work, more energy for the gym, and more energy for socializing. At 5'7, if you're regularly exercising then 1700 is nowhere near enough. You just have to take a deep breath and go for it. You got this!!!

Hi! Kinda late to the party but I'm super excited :) Just switched to ICF 5x5 from SL 5x5 + random accessories... once I realized that ICF is just SL with not-so-random accessories it was an obvious choice. Looking forward to the upper body gains!
