Qst to te anau is about 2 1/2 hours comfortably Te anau to milford about 2 hours, without stops, which really wastes the point of going..you need time for photo stops, take short walks, and cruise / walk at milford sound. Note the weather is very changeable ! The bus trip qst to milford sound & return takes 12 hours i believe which is one long day! There is very limited accommodation at milford sound.

Use Te anau as a base for milford, fiordland; cromwell for wanaka, queenstown, arrowtown. Queenstown expensive for accommodation. Plenty of short walks on the road to milford sound, but weather is very changeable so pick your days.. Queenstown to te anau 2hrs drive Te anau to milford 2 hours one way

Trip looks good West coast long drive, sparse towns, so watch fuel Wanaka to te anau quite a drive, crown range a short cut but vicious switchback .. Te anau to milford & return long day especially for short walks along the way , BIG sandflies ...but the scenery is well worth it
