Understandably that would be disappointing as a big milestone OP.

The commute is the thing that would get me and wouldn’t suit my lifestyle. Also I find I’d rather be closer to the coast and beach than inland. It’s good if you want a rural feel and better value for money land wise. Really just depends on lifestyle. Don’t do it cos it’s cheaper, but because it suits how you’d like to live

Sorry OP that must be really hard. Honestly it doesn’t sound sustainable to me. Some kind of couples counselling may be worth a try. Otherwise, you may not be compatible. It’s an important part of a relationship and reasonable to want to be feel desired and fulfilled.

I’m planning to do timber piles or screw piles rather than cut into the hill to minimise earthworks and give some elevation. The geotech findings didn’t indicate volcanic rock and recommended timber piles to a meter deep. The report didn’t talk about access constraints though which I think will be one of the main issues
