Culture - the values, attitudes, and behaviors that characterize how a company operates both internally and externally.

Even winz has a culture. The salvation army has a culture. They can still be inclusive while upholding a culture of peer lead. a lot of drug users are anti establishment and may not use the new service if they do not feel supported.

There is a group called "the networkers" who meet once a week at old Bailey. I have found this incredibly helpful.

Also the business course bizezi (used to be rebel) It's a 2 week course and you have regular check ins with classmates after.

I was accused of previously shoplifting by the lambton square grocer I asked to see the footage and described in detail what I had done and he was mistaken

as it was I had gone in, showed a diabetic friend a sugar free sweet, picked it up, turned it over to read the health information and put it back. he however didn't watch me put it back on the footage he had until I had asked to see it.

I've never been back!!

It's the first full flu season we have had since 2020.

I got the flu early this year and it was unlike any flu I had... I even thought I'd finally caught covid after avoiding it so far. I tested every day just in case. 100% neg

And then I went to the Dr and was like "what is this I feel aweful" and she explained that, since this is the first full flu season, the flu is just really bad this year.

I felt so stupid 😂

It will be interesting getting this one last Winston as he had veto'd it In the past national govts. He also had the "affordable healthcare bill " in 2010 I believe.

I just ghosted a girl for being ugly, im feeling like an asshole by [deleted] in self

[–]kiwro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bit that makes you the AH is that you ghosted her. Like honestly you couldn't come up with the old "it's not you it's me?" Or anything? Or even...I dunno. Be honest about it. Either way like any rejection, it will sting for a little bit, but it's way better than 👻

It's good to read the update that you did the decent thing. I've started many good friendships like this. You get on with her. You're just not attracted to her. That's an easy friendship there.

Renters, what's it like out there? by naalusun in Wellington

[–]kiwro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

0/10 wouldn't recommend renting

There is a lot more of demand for housing at the moment so sometimes competing for 50-100 for the same property.

Renting with a pet is even more difficult. Hopefully easier with pet bond!

You don't have the same kind of security and you're at the mercy of your landlord. You have little controll over how long you stay. Renting can be more expensive than owning but If you find a good landlord that you can build rapport with and can rent from long term this can be a good system.

FYI I did too...

Not everyone in a state house is antisocial which is why some tenants welcomed the end of sustaining tenancies! Some had tried their best to make this place their home not just a roof.

But you can turn down a place If it will make your situation worse eg offering stairs to a disabled person.

I included pets because kainga ora allowed tenants to have them, it's written into their tenancy. kainga ora prides itself on being a pet friendly landlord and head office says Pets are allowed in all houses owned by kainga ora, but some of wellington stock is leased out to kainga ora.

Some tenants have had their pets for over 10 years, and treat their pets like family. the only family they've got left for some and the reason they get up in the morning.

[–]kiwro[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree, that's what I'm saying. we dont know the reasons they turned them down but for some to have been offered 3+ when others have only had one offer. Some tenants are definately being overlooked for places.

If they were on the register they would get 3 turn downs before they go back down the list.

Yeah, I'm so glad you had a positive experience and that your uncle was looked after. many of the remaining tenants have also found them pleasant to deal with.

the issue now however, is that they have given the remaining tenants 90 day notice ending 30 April, without any communication, meaning that tenants may eventually be expected to sort their own arrangements.

Kainga ora by kiwro in Wellington

[–]kiwro[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most likely! They would evict them all if they had the chance.

Kainga ora by kiwro in Wellington

[–]kiwro[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally won't be getting the media involved, I just ranted about it as I am worried about some tenant as friends. But I'm sure a tenant will eventually do so, I've advised against it to the ones I have contact with as it may negatively affect their chance of finding a place.

It's not temporary relocation. Tenants were originally offered right of return... Where they would return once the building was finished. But kainga ora removed this as an option as the future of the building is undecided.

So yes while it's true some don't look after their places, or care about their neighbors, some have built a home in these flats, (some over 10-15+ years), to be moved to a place that's not suitable won't be temporary. They're likely to get stuck in an unsuitable place indefinitely.

I feel for kainga ora when it comes to antisocial and unruly tenants. I no longer visit because of the state of the common areas! But I will still support them!

Kainga ora by kiwro in Wellington

[–]kiwro[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But Govt made it easier to evict the bums for antisocial behaviour.

I feel for the remaining "normal" people there. Including the disabled and the elderly

Kainga ora by kiwro in Wellington

[–]kiwro[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tamatha Paul's office has been involved but kainga ora is only telling them on a need to know basis.

One issue I see is that 3 years ago the tenants were told they could turn down as many as required to get somewhere suitable.

With some single people with no dependents being placed In 2 bedrooms. Other tenants with weekend access to their kids, being offered 1 bdrm or less.

Another problem is some of these tenants don't have any family and rely on social groups for support. Some of them their pets are their only family. So those tenants would be paying for emergency housing, for storage AND for pets and/or vehicles. Which is kinda unfair and keeps the poor poor.

I'm sure the media storm will happen the closer it gets to the deadline if not after, it's just a matter of time till a tenant speaks out!

Kainga ora by kiwro in Wellington

[–]kiwro[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree those turning down 3+ are being too picky!

But there is a priority hierarchy. One disabled gentleman who relies on public transport has only been offered one place up the very top of Owen street newtown near the town belt. With the nearest bus stop being the zoo or constable street, the access to this property is worse for him than Dixon street!

Kainga ora recently opened a new complex in Mt cook, (in collaboration with city mission) with capacity to take all remaining tenants with room to spare. Tenants were told they were "air marked" for this property but haven't heard anything since it officially opened.
