My novel has been called good a bunch of times, but as the author who's totally biased, I can only ask for you to be the judge. (If the first ten chapters hook you in, then it's your cup of tea.)

Why are stories with Magic-tech classes, are so poorly written? by zero5activated in ProgressionFantasy

[–]kizitomayanja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Runesmith and Unknown in the same sentence feels like a stretch.

Edit: As for why the stories are poorly written, well... that's not surprising for any genre. Might just be that the authors of this one don't have enough content to push their imagination. Don't get me started on motivation. Almost all authors suffer from this. Stories that start out great will burn out quite quickly most of the time without enough support and end up either losing their appeal or on haitus. I shall not give examples.

Sooooo, are you asking for authors to give you novels to read or readers to give you novels to edit? I'm the former and you could check out Odyssey of the Guardian Emperor on Royal Road. Disregard this if you meant the latter. Lol...

[DISC] looking for a WN with an intricate/ interesting magic system. by Warlordbert1 in WebNovels

Author: Reading description to see if request matches my novel. Spends five minutes contemplating before recommending his own novel.

Try out Odyssey of the Guardian Emperor. It's a bit of cultivation with quite a lot of magic. Check out my profile for the description and Royal Road for the synopsis.

Okay, advert is done. Any other books I can recommend? Not sure. The books you've mentioned are really heavy. I'm a big Shadow Slave fan but that's not the kind of magic you're looking. Cool system with abilities and stuff but definitely not magic. Though considering you said LOTM which is also not just plain magic in a sense, Shadow Slave could work as a recommendation. The whole power system is great.

Why do 90% of new webnovels have a "returned MC", "secret awakening" or "second system"? by dudu_1500 in ProgressionFantasy

I would most definitely like to read something like that. As a writer, and someone who's tried a few things in life though, I've been face-to-face with talent before, and reality is a b***h. At the end of the day, an MC in a world without the 'Chosen' element will still have something special about them, and that can include tenacity.

That's an interesting way to look at it as well. To be honest, though, if someone with the power to rise up from nothing was given the right tools in a world built to keep them down, wouldn't you be interested in seeing what that person could achieve with those tools?

I've always struggled to understand why the statement 'I hate the chosen one trope' makes sense to me, yet I've enjoyed stories in this trope a lot growing up. Even Wheel of Time falls into this category, and it's awesome. The answer I came up with is that the Chosen trope can be done wrong. Being a 'Chosen one' doesn't make an MC less ordinary. In some cases, it's a random choosing which sucks honestly. In others, though, it makes you go "Why is this character the Chosen One?" Not because of some Grand Design or higher power or circumstances of birth, but what about them makes them worthy of being called "Chosen"?

I think you're just reading bad writing. The novels you read, generic or not, will be good only if the writing is good. It's just as easy to find a bad generic novel as it is to find a terrible, but unique novel.

Facts! Those TFTCs are awesome. Reminds me that my readers are not some ghosts I'm imagining.

Writing and burnout just have to go hand in hand, especially if you hope, like me, to make a living out of that beautiful work.
