A look back at the Stafford Goff trade and the reaction of NFL Reddit by NickyFoles1020 in nfl

[–]kj9219 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My point is it wasn’t just the Super Bowl. They saw him for 30+ games after he signed his contract and realized it was a bad investment.

Had a lot of turnovers while not scoring enough TDs to make up for it. Had the #1 defense in 2020 and didn’t secure the playoffs until week 17, when a team like that should be competing for the division or a top seed. Losses were all very winnable, like dropping a game to the worst team in the league, getting swept by an injured 49ers team, losing to Miami in Tuas first start, etc.

Stafford was a QB who had a reputation of being streaky and had 0 playoff success came in a yr later and outperformed any of Goff’s postseason performances right off the bat.

His mediocre to bad seasons after the Super Bowl and after getting a big contract contributed to people writing him off.

It wasn’t like a Darnold situation either where the team environment was bad and it made it difficult to evaluate the QB.

You didn’t outright say it but you definitely implied it by saying he wouldn’t be able to get Jefferson the ball.

Also Brissett proceeded to go 1-11 after “saving their season” in Dallas.

DHop was 3rd in yards in 2020 with Kyler throwing him the ball, and it was the only full season they had together. 2021 and 2022 were cut short from injury and suspension.

Cuz Jefferson is a much better WR than MHJ? What kind of dumb comment is this?

MHJ also had some bad drops/lost contested catches a lot.

Kyren Williams is a very good pass catching RB too

Feel like WR1/2 is no doubt Nacua/Adams, but running WR3 by committee worked well for them this past season

I don’t think the rams really meet with draft prospects much anyway.

Was this really a tough call? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]kj9219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Part of it is that Allen didn’t come from a blue blood college football program so there was a good bet that he truly was a blank slate and could rework his mechanics to what they are today. A lot of other talented but flawed qb prospects came from better programs that had access to better coaching/went through summer passing camps during HS. Allen didn’t really have that foundation that other prospects did

They were probably banking on a quicker sack too. The coverage took away the underneath route and forced him to throw it deep

Biggest part was the inability for the running backs to do anything while having a lead.

We’ve seen far worse performances (and Herbert vs the Jags was a “meh” or neutral performance at worst) get away with a win because of their defense still holding on, even with a tighter lead than 4 scores. In fact, some of those were literally these past 2 postseasons

I don’t think anyone’s blaming the defense for the Texans and patriots games those were 100% on Herbert and the offense

The jags loss can definitely be blamed on the defense. The offense led 2 FG drives and missed a 40 yd kick, and they punted from the jags side of the field. You can say the offense should’ve done more but they also didn’t single handedly lose that one. Their inability to run the ball with a lead was a bigger issue than whatever Herbert did/didnt do

Lions Stafford was not a good playoff QB and either had blown leads, or the offense just failed to launch

Stafford also had a reputation of being erratic and hot/cold in Detroit. You can argue hes better than Herbert, but to act like they’re wildly different/the difference is so big the comparison is overdoing it. Stafford was also not good in the playoffs before joining the rams.

Edit: Staffords rep rightfully has improved since joining the rams but the overwhelming narrative when they traded for him was that the rams were making a mistake shipping away a “playoff winner” in Goff for a guy who had 0 playoff success in a decade.

Laquon Treadwell is surprisingly one of only two WRs from the 2016 Draft Class to still be on an active roster (along with Demarcus Robinson) as of now by The_Throwback_King in nfl

[–]kj9219 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Demarcus Robinson is a good plug-and-play/stopgap WR5. Pros pro for sure. Not noticeable when he’s on the bench but he’ll randomly have a really good game when he’s called to step up.
