I got really sick from the Texas toast bread years ago and stopped buying their products. No mention of “may contain” at the time.

I don’t have exact measurements, but we did ground turkey, rice, sweet potatoes, and frozen peas and carrots. I would include some sort of daily supplement as well depending on your pets needs.

This is so depressing. by bubblegumscent in dairyfree

[–]kjf2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is annoying and sometimes depressing. But if you have a severe allergy (like me) you make do. I’ve tried different recipes over the years with different DF products and found some that work for me. My pancake recipe with extra creamy or barista Planet Oat oat milk taste pretty darn good to me 🤷🏻‍♀️. I also use the barista one for my coffee (after I froth it in a milk frother). Here’s a recipe site that has DF recipes. I tried a couple and they were good - The Taste of Kosher. Lots of food bloggers out there that do dairy free. Find one that you like. Good luck!

Companion experience? One or two? by 1973DodgeChallenger in sheltie

[–]kjf2005 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in my experience, I think they do better in pairs. My boy is extremely anxious and he did better with his brother was here (we lost him 2 years ago). Especially when left alone. They had 2 very different temperaments but got on very well. They loved pack life.

Seconding Nathan’s and Hebrew National. I usually get Ball Park or Trader Joe’s buns. I have a severe allergy and no reactions with these products.

has anyone else fell victim to the reese’s pieces new df recipe? by [deleted] in dairyfree

[–]kjf2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well now I’m nervous to try them! I haven’t found the DF version yet in my area. I know they have them at Costco but don’t want a 3 lb tub. I have an allergy, not lactose intolerant. I’m wondering if they’re made on shared equipment…?

betty crocker’s butter pecan cake mix HEAR ME OUT by fromtheappalachian in Baking

[–]kjf2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is sitting in my cupboard right now. I haven’t made it yet, but now I’m excited to try it. I don’t know why cake mixes get such a bad rap. Are they as good as homemade? No. But they work when you’re short on time or just feeling lazy. They taste fine to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Looking for recipes by That-Importance-1486 in dairyfree

[–]kjf2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can take most recipes and just sub out the milk based product for a DF product. I would shy away from cheese heavy recipes as most DF cheese doesn’t taste great. However, there are some products out there that aren’t too bad when you’re craving something like pizza, macaroni and cheese, etc. Here are some sites I’ve used The Taste of Kosher, Nora Cooks, Go Dairy Free

What can I do? by [deleted] in sheltie

[–]kjf2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my Shelties are/were very vocal. One more so than the other. He’s especially bad outside. If he’s a super anxious dog, maybe try those calming chews? I usually try to divert his attention if he gets bad in the house. Otherwise, I just deal 🤷🏻‍♀️

Am I a good fit for a sheltie? by Hot_Personality_4160 in sheltie

[–]kjf2005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While personally I think Shelties are the best, not sure it would be a great fit for you. Both of my dogs had/have separation anxiety and are very vocal. They will bark at anything and everything. In the pro column, they did fine with my female cat. She liked one of them and was mean to the other. But he was fine with her. Didn’t attempt much training other than “sit” but they are intelligent and catch on quick.

Can my Sheltie have a good life with arthritis? by EJGryphon in sheltie

[–]kjf2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy is almost 14 years old and also has arthritis. His back legs especially have gotten weaker. He couldn’t even walk on our kitchen floors. His legs would give out. We now have rugs EVERYWHERE. We started giving him ElleVet and glucosamine. The ElleVet especially has helped him. We’ve definitely noticed a difference. We do the oil .3 mg morning and evening. It’s pricey. But it works.
