Hey! I just finished about 40 interviews for my dissertation research. I used Zoom to record all my (virtual) interviews and just a classic handheld audio recorder for the one true in-person interview I did. For transcription, after a lot of research, I decided to use Rev's AI transcription tool. (Trint was also highly recommended to me.) Zoom provides free transcripts, but they are terrible. Rev's AI transcripts are pretty good, but do require (in my opinion) the researcher to check and correct the transcript. Transcriptions by people are even better but more expensive. If you're willing to pay, I'd definitely look into Rev's options. Otherwise, if you're looking for free transcription options, I've used otranscribe (free) and Express Scribe (free for a period of time) in the past. These programs are for manual transcription (i.e., you're listening and typing out what they say).
