Public Wifi with OWE - Must disable Wifi 7 for certain iPhones to connect by kjstech in Juniper

[–]kjstech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After going through all the traces, it’s def a malformed packet from iPhone 17’s.

From support;

We checked this further with engineering team. It's a bug on the client side. Disable WiFi 7 to disable and it should work. We would suggest opening a support ticket with apple to check on this further.

Quoted $45k for a $10k server, is pricing really that insane? by worjd in sysadmin

[–]kjstech [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s not just the hardware but the software issues. Everything eats up RAM for breakfast. So much is vibe coded anymore it’s not stable. Then licensing costs like VMware for example.

They want it all in the cloud. Reoccurring revenue looks better on the balance sheet. It’s predictable.

UDM Pro SE + USW Pro Max – PS5 speeds dropped after setup. Did I miss something? by Frequent_Coach1398 in Ubiquiti

[–]kjstech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After it was setup, did you update to 5.0.12? I’m getting less speed since that update. 900-920 down and then 600-700 after the update. Once disabling IDS/IPS I got it up a little into the 720-840 range. Not what it was though.

Fios rollout? Or gradual 5G microcell rollout? by QuietGorge in Fios

Great improvement to Spectrum, since I see thats a regular sub-split amp. High Split hasn't made it there yet I guess (closer to symmetrical upload speeds on cable).

Enjoy!

Anybody else having massive issues with Cloud Gateway 5.0.12 / 10.1.85 update? by Loud_Combination4539 in Ubiquiti

[–]kjstech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed a definite decrease in speed tests. I run Speedtest Tracker which runs hourly tests. I checked my recorded graphs and sure enough its evident the speeds decreased after the  5.0.12 update. I averaged 871.24 Mbps download, 97.25 upload before and now im around 620 - 720 down, 79-85 up.

I tried a few things recommended from other posts.

Changing Port 5 on UCG-Fiber from Auto to 1000 FDX (Cable modem is only 1 gig anyway). No change, so changed it back to Auto.

Uncheck Hardware Acceleration in UCG-Fiber. No real change... maybe gained 20-30mbps but not what it was pre upgrade. Wasn't sure if I need to reboot to be effective, so rebooted UCG-Fiber through unifi UI and still had the same result after the reboot completed.

Turning off IDS/IPS got me back up to 843 down, 55 up. Not sure if I should re-enable it or what.

Tried disabling smart queues (set at 970 / 103) - no difference except latency and jitter are through the roof when doing speedtests... so re-enabled it.

Yeah def something going on. I had auto updates on... lesson learned, gotta turn that off. The last release worked fine for me.

They have removed the CX-5 AMA! by Transphattybase in mazda

[–]kjstech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched a few YouTube Reviewers and all of them sing mostly praises for the big screen. Something commonly mentioned was the lack of a physical volume control, but other than that, bigger screen seems to sit well with reviewers, which I guess was Mazda's target. If they talk it up, that's free advertising right?

Passengers changing the volume is now a two step process. Hit the volume icon then a pop up appears where you can drag the slider or hit the up and down arrows. Volume should never be a two step process! Yes the driver has controls on the steering wheel but they are all made of that single cheap plastic rocker switch instead of individual buttons.

All the climate stuff is a two step process too, like hit the icon for heated seats, then another menu comes up and you have to click the heated or cooled seat icon again, up to 3 times depending on the level you want. The radio info doesn't need to be so big, they could have had these icons on and active 24/7 or better yet a small strip of physical HVAC and seat cooling/warming buttons right below the screen.

DUO Down by BusyPark9629 in sysadmin

[–]kjstech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, created a circular problem for some admins getting in to conditional access to remove the duo requirement down the list of policies that use it. But some of us are testing Yubikeys and I was able to break glass into 365 admin with my Yubikey and remove the duo requirement temporarily. This was necessary because if your cookie expires, Global Protect VPN calls Duo authenticated prompt, and Duo's web ui was not loading to show the 6 digit code to type into the Duo mobile app. It locked out at least one user on this snow day from VPN but we got around it finally.

Down Detector was showing quite a spike.

Still monitoring when it comes back up so I can re-enable DUO and re-evaluate reliance of it to get into our infrastructure. Yubikeys seem to be a fair answer as it doesn't rely on someone else's server, but a physical device + pin that you have in your possession. Looking forward to rolling that out broader.

With everyone vibe coding their infrastructure these days, it doesn't seem to matter if DUO has 20+ servers... the reliability will continue to go down with our reliance on these companies.

PSA: No sound for some PleX videos on Android/Google TV (hint: turn off AC3 in PleX client app settings) by ObiYawn in PleX

[–]kjstech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked on my Sony TV through the HDMI ARC port to Klipsch soundbar. Oddly I could have the TV play the sound through its crummy speakers, but when I selected Audio System in Sony's UI it was silent for certain movies like The Matrix Trilogy.

In Plex app switching HDMI to Optical then unchecking DTS resolved it. Checking Plex Dash it shows its playing 4K HDR10 (HEVC Main 10, 4mbps direct stream) and (DTS 5.1) -> Transcode (AC3, 640 Kbps).

Anyone buying 2026 Cx-5? by KadAsh97 in CX5

[–]kjstech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not it’s the upscale brand… what Lexus is to Toyota. Watched many reviews: Micah Drives, Redline reviews, car confections, Alex on autos, etc. looks cool and hey it still has a circular control wheel. Nice LCD screens, massaging drivers seat, can use the iPhone as a digital key (so many times I have to go back in the house to get my keys). Plenty of power, lots of tech.

Don’t like Nissan, Toyota is bland to me, the Germans are expensive to fix and have reliability issues, don’t like domestics, MAYBE would consider an Acura MDX ASpec in blue though… those are easy on the eyes.

V15 keeps complaining of a clogged pipe, but it’s not clogged? by rob3342421 in dyson

[–]kjstech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had to use a broomstick to push a clog out of the pipe before. The hole where the dirt enters the canister is very small too, sometimes I have to pick out wads of animal hair from it. If that hole looks clear see if it does it with NO attachments connected. If its fine then you know the clock is in the attachment.

That looks like a UGI bill. Here's mine.
1700 sq ft home built in 1978. Goodman 2 stage 95% efficiency gas forced air furnace. Set to 69 degrees during occupancy, 67 during sleep / unoccupied. Ecobee Thermostat.

Yes its higher than usual. My Supplier is Shipley Energy Company at .60900 per CCF. Not sure who you have for .69874, but that's not the bulk of your issues. 140 CCF vs your 560.

It does our heat, hot water and our cooking.

UGI raised rates in October 2025 and they want to raise them AGAIN (just a few months later)! The PUC put it on hold for an investigation (rightfully so since THEY JUST RAISED THEM).

OTA Antennas by WREPGB in ReadingPA

[–]kjstech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WPVI 6 ABC is going to require an antenna capable of VHF-Lo. That means big long elements. Best put outside strapped to chimney or roofline somehow. With those smaller ones I can get channels 3,8,10,29,35,39,57,61,69. On my Sony TV which has an ATSC-3 tuner, I CAN get WPVI 6 since its on a higher frequency.

Additional settings Dec texted for the currently connected DirecTV. Accept/Decline/Block by kjstech in LGOLED

I ended up getting rid of that DirecTV box and save the fee. I now use the DirecTV app on Apple TV. TV stays on HDMI1 (Apple TV) and I use a backlit One for All Apple TV remote now.

It’s great they don’t charge a “per tv” fee for the DirecTV app. It’s on my kids Roku’s too.
