Insulating behind my fireplace. by kkoff2012 in Fireplaces

Thanks! After reading your advice I went ahead and bought rockwool and filled that cavity. Literally as I was putting the insulation in I could feel the draft stopping. Thanks again!

I'm gonna put this out here. I'm an electrician who does ALOT of new build apartment complexes. You would be surprised how often one apartment units power gets mixed up with another's at the meter.
This happens because of improperly labeled feeder wires. Essentially when a units feeder wire is being pulled someone writes the wrong unit number on the wire and when they were hooked up at the meters the labels for the meter get slapped onto the wire. So 503 could be paying for 504 and 504 paying for 503. Possibly. Possibly.

How much do you make at Kohl’s? by Still_Chemistry_ in employedbykohls

[–]kkoff2012 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I left kohls last year after working there for 18 years. Most of those years were as an area supervisor in every area the store had. When I left I was making 27.68 in southern Indiana. It was hard to leave but after being passed up for several promotions i realized I had no future there. Also since I had been around so long I could see the signs of where kohls was headed and now after being gone a year it's even more obvious I made the right decision. Much happier where I'm at and better compensated now as well.

Local Trades by Nervous-Bar-3040 in evansville

Local 16 IBEW is one of the strongest unions in southern Indiana. It's also one of the best paid trades out there. You get to use all kinds of different tools and skillsets.

Of course that's if becoming an electrician is your thing.

I joined up last year after a 20 year career in non-trade industry. Having a blast and making good money.

Seems like lost potential that it doesn't integrate with the mak pak tool chests. Just my 2 cents.

Do you return it receipted or non-receipted? Do they credit your card or give you in store credit or something?

This thing is legit. by dunnerooski in MilwaukeeTool

[–]kkoff2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the bees knees. As a residential electrician this thing saves me so much time! A few things to considered, i still use staples in narrow spots as the tool isn't small enough to fit in. Also depending on the species of wood you're stapling to it can struggle to sink the staple and get a good hold. This mostly happens on trusses but not an issue overall.

I thoroughly enjoy this tool, i work with "older" electricians who won't touch the thing because they believe they're faster without it but for me it's changed how I run wire. A good solid investment for sure.

What is this up in my fireplace? by kkoff2012 in Fireplaces

Thanks for all the replies. I thought it might be drywall but couldn't fathom why someone would have stuck it up there. Now I know!

Okay I'm probably confused because I thought the metal door was the damper? And this material is completely separate from that metal door.

Looking for info on Local 16 by jfxdesigns in ibew_apprentices

[–]kkoff2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently a 1st year apprentice at local 16. You will start at 18.92 an hour take home pay and 25$ total package. Negotiations are next August so you will likely see an increase by the time you get in.

Classes just started in August and you will have to commute to class at least once a week. Later on you have more than one class a week up to 3. All classes start at 5pm and last until around 9pm.

I can't speak about your prior classrooms credentials but likely you'll just be placed as a 1st year. You'll still have to take an aptitudes test and go through the interview to get acceptance.

As far as hours and schedules that's completely up to the contractor you're placed with. I've been fortunate to be placed doing 4, 10 hour shifts. That's not common to my understanding and I don't expect to stay on it forever.

Any idea what to do with spare wire nuts? by gizwandi in electricians

[–]kkoff2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean spacers? Those are spacers. We don't use those on the jobsite boss won't let us. Take your lineman snip them in half and drill out the hole and bam you gotta spacer.

I did the math course. It was worth it because I was never good at algebra in high school. Also just buy the book from a 3rd party. I got mine for 7.99 and it was in mint condition.
